for anyone that needs something to study friday night:)
I hope to be there............ If I'm not called out to work!
Don,t be so sure I've got to ice my knee all night as it seems to have swelled up:eek: and I,m well known for going completely the wrong way!!! I even went wrong on an up and down the same way race when i started a couple of years ago!!!Quote:
Thats me another place down the finishing order then!!
Yes I have some new, new ones that fit, but they are trainers not racers as they had none:mad: (cheeky mare)Quote:
Are you bringing shoes that fit this time:D
130 are now running although there are two 127s (are they going to run together like the two 118s do?)
I see GrahamB is now on the list. Race you to the top Graham?;)
Lovely day. Quite a tough course, especially second half. A bit contrived going down to the foot of the last descent. First half particularly good. Not as windy on top as I thought. Lloyd Tagart won. It would be a deadly course to try in thick mist. Hardest part was navigating the lanes to get there.
Well, the weather was Glorious, the sun shone, the air was still(ish) so what could stand in the way of a good run? REALLY big hills that's what!!!
Oh, that and the fact I seemed to have left my legs and a lung back at home!
It's a tough 7 and a half miles but a cracking race, a good field turned out including Lloyd Taggart and Darren Kay taking first and second place respectively.
The time difference between the leading lady finishing and my crossing the line was nothing other than VAST!! I made a comment to her saying I could get round Tesco and do my weekly shop in that time!! Well done to Jackie, brilliant run.
Oh well, another one done and perhaps if I didn't spend so much time sight seeing and chatting all the way round (really sorry Cath!! - it's the only thing that takes my mind off it!) I'd do marginally better? Who know's but the main thing is that as always it was brilliantly organised well attended and good 'fun' - although not sure I'd be saying that if the clag was down! I agree with Deek would have been a nightmare if it wasn't such a clear day
Managed to stay upright on this one with no dramatic tumbles at the end so that's a bonus!
And for all you speedy peeps - you missed out on the scrummy flapjacks:p
I was at least first into the pub!!!! some nice beer and food.......... all good prep for ireland:D
Don't apologies you kept me going, I was very disheart after a fall early on and being sucked into that bog! After my hand was cleaned up by the very very nice people at Bowland Mountain Rescue and having frozen peas on my foot for a good 30 minutes when I got home I feel better now. (just home martin doesn't wasn't peas for tea! :( ). Disappointed I missed out on flapjacks :( :(
well done to Bowland for organising and thanks for the encouragement from checkpoint marshalls
A fantastic race and the flapjack was even better.
Thanks to Flat Foot for getting us a parking space. Cheers Mike.
Looking forward to Paddy's Pole in 4 weeks time but don't know where everyone is going to park?
Anyone know when the results will be posted.
Results are here - well done to Andy Farmer & Bowland for a great race and prompt results. See you next year. http://www.bowlandfellrunners.org.uk...007results.pdf
Enjoyed the race (looking back at it now!)
Missed the flapjack :( But did manage a pint in the pub :D
Note to self - get there early for Paddy's Pole !
Found a link to some great pictures care of Harry Walmsley

There were plenty of other photographers out there on Saturday, anyone else found any pictures?
Surely any course that does not go directly to a summit and directly back down again is "contrived". The organiser is attempting to give you the most sporting / demanding route on the terrain that is available to him - hence the need for checkpoints. Your criticism of contrived could apply to such races as:- Winter Hill, Full & Half Tours of Pendle, almost any race that has more checkpoints than Start - Summit - Finish. Indeed the actual sport of fell running is contrived - why run to the top of a hill, only to run back down again? Because we do it for the fun of it!:D We don't do it to be logical!
I would agree. The time I did Winter Hill I thiought it was very contrived. Lots of races in the Lakes follow natural lines, akin to a good climb. More satisfying. If the race had finished by following the ridge up onto the last summit, before dropping down to the finish this would have been more of a natural line albeit a shorter race. If you're saying I'm not allowed to 'criticise' that is different.
I told you I enjoyed this race!:D

Anyone doing this tomorrow?
Just read this report from "Rain Lady" on Metcheck Interactive.
21 March 2008 : 17:53 GMT
SW Bowland 550ft. Clear now, but about 40 mins ago had a squally shower of snow, blowing horizontally. Lasted about 10 mins and lightly whitened the fells above 1000ft, but snow didn't stick here at this altitude. The N wind was awful, absolutely vicious and howling.
Doubt anyone could have stood up in it. Arctic pipeline indeed.
Temp dropped all afternoon. Now 2.7C.
There's more!
21 March 2008 : 21:07 GMT
SW Bowland 550ft The wind is still horrendously violent here.
(Am I the only one to have grumbled about it for 24hrs !!)
Moonlight showing fast moving clouds. Temp 2.1C.
I'll be there Swoop - 1st race as a Vet 50!!
There should also be quite a good CLM contingent since it's the first club championship race of the year (fell that is).
See you there
Belated Happy Birthday - See you there!
Well your weather forecast was right enough today Swoop. I decided to put my overtrousers on near the top of Paddys Pole as the horizontal hail was numbing my legs. Felt like a right sissy at the finish though cos it felt almost tropical.
Got plenty of stick off the mates, but with a time of 1.22 I beat most of them anyway.:)
Ah well, the great british weather.
I started (and finished) wearing a long sleeved top over a helly, briefs, shorts, tracksters, hat and gloves. Carried waterproofs in my bumbag but didn't bother with them. Think I got it just about right.
I was beginning to get a bit cold and wet during the snow storm but it stopped just at the right time and
I soon felt warm again on the climb to Paddy's Pole. A great race. Thanks to all at Bowland.
My first time back at Fiendsdale on the new route and have to say thought it was a cracking route although I didn't do it justice. Lots of climbing and route choice could be quite difficult in mist.
Well done to Bowland - good organisation with lots of marshals and supporters out on the route.
Just managed to edge Swoop with my downhilling on my first race as a vet 50 - felt like it too!!
Anyone seen any results yet ?
Mapper, can you send me a copy.
Cheers
Results now up on http://www.bowlandfellrunners.org.uk/
As you may know, Fiendsdale has a limit of 100 this year (imposed by land owners).
The list of successful entries will be on the Bowland website in a day or two.
