Well make sure you're not too knackered by the first three.
You have to leave pretty sharpish from Buckden to get to Cononley on time. No hanging around having cake and beer.
We're going to Langdale for Great Lakes but back on Sunday for Pinnacles. Think I'll be running round steadily with some friends.
Look forward to seeing you. :)

Livi I think he'd be fine - obviously on a lead through the fields. The very last field, above the Clough, had ows and calfs when I was up there, yesterday, though.

Cows and calves, perhaps?

Prob 18+ years since i last raced this so not not a great description (seem to remember some time following dave woodhead in his horwich colours!) that makes me feel OOOOLD.
Stanners & Kiddo were very much old school PE teachers - looking back it's hillarious the stuff they got away with, but i always loved PE / Outdoor pursuits. Not sure they'd have faired so well in this day and age!
The Crosshills Gala fell race started in the approx early 1980s from South Craven School and was held at the beginning of May. It was a out and back race as you describe in which you went to Sutton Pinnacle first then onto Cowling Pinnacle returning back the same way. Past senior race winners have been Mike Hawkins, Tommy Sedgwick, and Steve Carr, as for myself i won the under 17s 3 years in succession.
There was also a race from Eastburn in 1986 that was advertised as a fell race but was more a road race the went to the top of Sutton Pinnacle and back that was won by Dave woodhead with myself winning the under 17s. Also there was a fell race from the Dog & Gunn pub at Malis in the early 1990s which went through the fields to the top of Sutton Pinnacle & Cowling Pinnacle with John Atkinson winning a few times.

Re: New Sutton Pinnacles Race
I didn't realise there had been several different races. Hopefully this one will keep going and increase the number of entrants. There's been a lot of interest this year, so it seems to have gained momentum.

I'm doing all three! Aim is to not be last in any!!
Thanks Macali - will bring Blue and risk the cows - we had a field full tonight which was interesting!

Re: New Sutton Pinnacles Race
Will be marshalling on this one with little biara, say hello as you run past. Don't know where yet, still waiting for macalis instructions.......
-
Re: New Sutton Pinnacles Race
The weather and a realization that I'd only end up injured put me off stupid ideas about running 4 races in 2 days, but I'll make it 1 out of the 4!
-
Re: New Sutton Pinnacles Race
I'm going to stumble round this one :)
-
Re: New Sutton Pinnacles Race
Can't make this now, daughter is planning a Father's Day feast for me, been away all weekend so can't disappear when she's gone to so much trouble.
Have a good un folks:thumbup:

Re: New Sutton Pinnacles Race
Fab race; bogs, tussocks, cows, stiles, the works! ....and the weather was even kind.
Well done to Steve Brock - 3 races, 4th, 3rd and 1st all in one weekend!
-
Re: New Sutton Pinnacles Race

Re: New Sutton Pinnacles Race
Well done Macali. Fabulous race.
The sun came out after hiding for weeks and displayed the views of the lovely aire valley at it's best.
The race started and finished outside a pub. As you finished someone put a beer in your hand.
Fantastic!
Many thanks to Macali and all marshalls, including biara and little biara :)

Re: New Sutton Pinnacles Race
and great effort to Dom for travelling up. Your nblg vest looked not very well worn.
Hope to see you at a few more fell races soon.
You will have to run it again next year so you know the route and don't get lost.
-
Re: New Sutton Pinnacles Race
and steve, we'll let you off this time :) :)
-
Re: New Sutton Pinnacles Race
Aaaaah, now I know who Dom is, unsure on you Swift though. Me and little biara were out at the top, with the wall and the barbed wire fence..

Re: New Sutton Pinnacles Race
No! My secret identity is out!!
Would have been a great race if I'd actually done any training since I last raced 3 years ago!
Quote:
20. Run down the Clough, crossing the green metal bridge, half-way down. Turn left at the bridge, taking the path
through the woods, back into the village.
I knew the instructions said something about a bridge towards the end somewhere! Clearly my detour (totalling about .3 of a mile) explains why my time was at least 10 minutes slower than it should have been.... :closed:
Great race none the less, always good to meet up with a few forumites.

Re: New Sutton Pinnacles Race
Fab race - Blue loved it! Anyone who says he's a help / advantage is very welcome to run with him and discover the joys of very deep bog (he loves water) and vertical dog like descents!
Biara - the detour across the wall may have helped everyone else but it buggered me having to go the real route via the gate and lose all those places!!!!
Hands up who actually ran round the pinnacle?
Well done to you Macali - superb organisation!

Oh dear, Dom, I thought we'd amended that. At least now it seems that today's race route is the final version, so no more changes and hopefully will be easier, next time. That part of the instructions were leftover from when I wanted to enter the Clough at the other side, with a steeper descent.
Thanks for coming up - true dedication to the cause!

Re: New Sutton Pinnacles Race
Thanks to all who ran and those who supported.

!
Sorry, my fault for trying to keep little biara a bit dry walking up there. Ste Brock beat us there and he shot over the wall, thought it was unfair for others as the 2nd, 3rd place etc saw that way and went towards it. Blame me for cutting the corner, sorry. :o. It wasnt that easy to run down there, a few went up to their thighs in the bog. Amusing to watch!!

You're forgiven!!!

Re: New Sutton Pinnacles Race
Congratulations on a really cracking event Macali!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed the new route, even the thigh deep bog! Well run and well attended, I think you have a classic Village Gala Fell Race on your hands.
I especially enjoyed my tactical "Mark Cavendish style" sprint for 17th place. Not sure my HRM has got over the shock!

The Mark Cavendish style referred to his cool headed tactical sprinting...........ie not losing your head and going too soon!

Sutton Pinnacles Fell Race
This year's race takes place on Sunday the 16th of June at 4pm.
The revised route that I used last year worked well, so I'm sticking with that.
Sutton - Cragg Lane - Pepper Pot - Salt Pot - Hitching Stone - Kid Stone - Clough - Sutton.
There is a lead reccy of the route this Sunday (9th). We are meeting outside the King's Arms at 4pm. All welcome.
There is a map and route description on KCAC.

Re: Sutton Pinnacles Fell Race
Aren't those instructions on the website the ones that got me hopelessly lost and put me at least 20 minutes down on where I should have finished?? :sneaky:
http://forum.fellrunner.org.uk/showt...173#post489173
(My mum's told me a billion times not to exaggerate...)
-
Re: Sutton Pinnacles Fell Race
Yes Dom I've not forgiven myself for that.
I'll check them again but I think that you were thwarted by having looked at them early, before a last-minute route change.
-
Re: Sutton Pinnacles Fell Race
That info needs chasing - on no account cross any bridges - run straight down the Clough back into the village.
I'll get the instructions changed when I get back from work.
thanks Dom :closed:

Re: Sutton Pinnacles Fell Race
Amended race info now up on www.kcac.co.uk under 'events we organise'.
start/finish no longer at the King's Arms; I've moved it slightly to minimise traffic issues.

Busy day in Sutton, Darren, so crowds flowing out of the Kings and onto North Road.
Issue more about fast traffic coming to the junction of Ellars and West Lane. We decided it was safer for the race to pass that way at the start, as one unit, rather than in dribs and drabs at the end.
Are you coming over for a run out?
-
Re: Sutton Pinnacles Fell Race
bumping this race up the list.
4pm tomorrow.
info on KCAC.
out now to mark the area between the Hitching Stone and the Kid Stone, then over to Cononley to marshall or maybe run.
