I've not got it yet Roy. Will get to dunmail for 3:00 am Sunday morning. You due in about 3:50?
jack that correct mate see you at dunmail
ok no problem lain
:o I thought vespa was going tonight but realise now it's tomorrow. Good luck Roy and don't go rushing off too fast
All the best Roy, Good Luck mate :)
What time did vespa start? The tracker page says 19.03 , I thought they intended 19.30 which is what the time at Calva implies?
Good luck!
I hope it cools down for you. It looked like the weather was on the change today.
Has anyone got the link to the tracker? I will check in on Roy's progress before setting off tomorrow. Hope all is going OK :D
Here you go Martyn perhaps see you tomorrow he looks like he is going OK so far.

steady sat night viewing...:-) Good 9 hours cool weather for ya now. Good luck
Just got back from Leg 1 support with Bill (Arkel). It was a good run around though I suffered on the climbs a bit more than I'd have liked. Roy was going well, though he fell and over-stretched his ham string. Fast turn around through Threlkeld. He looks strong. Now having a nice big cup of tea!! :)
Can anyone confirm Roy's start time?
I believe it was definitely 7.30pm Simon.
Couple of interesting zigs descending Seat Sandal and ascending Steel Fell - tracker glitches surely?
Yes. Definitely 7.30 start.
Looks to be going well at present he's got two hours from Bowfell to be back on schedule. Appears to be moving well. Keep it moving Roy!!
Not sure how real time the tracker updates are but I got the impression that you guys got to calva in just over 2 hours, which is stiffer pace than you need and could be why it felt hard.
I find it hard to understand the reasoning behind the 7 pm starts because it costs nothing in time to do leg 1 in dark where leg2 is good running and contenders are always half an hour slower in dark over light on leg 2 which to me is lost time that is hard to get back as a result of doing leg 2 dark
Worried about vespas pace now - it is 2 hours from great end to wasdale, so he will be an uncomfortable amount down. hope cloud cover keeps him cool.
We were 2 minutes under 2 hrs to Calva, pretty quick. Though it turned out a good buffer really cos Roy took a tumble going down Doddick and we had to walk jog whilst he recovered. Hope it didn't affect him too much he was limping a bit. He's set on finishing whatever the time, it will be tough if its as hot as yesterday. Nice to meet you Iain
Yeah, little over 2 hours I'd guess. I don't really know the splits to be honest I just know I found it hard work!! I've only ever done this stuff solo, and can never really recall my exact splits. It was great to do with others as I did learn a lot about the route, little tweeks etc. It solved a couple of questions I had, such as where exactly to cross the beck and where to contour around the back of Blencathra.
Oh! Hi there Bill!! Yeah, it was great to meet both you and Roy! Really enjoyed it, just wish I could have kept up!! :D
Check out rounds such as Stef's and you can do that in 2.10 or even 2.15 and still make it comfortably. Difference in effort perception is big. But as I said , I think making leg 2 as night leg costs half an hour or 40 minutes he cannot get back.
The leg 3 schedule seemed slow to me. 6.15 is more usual.
Just checking the story with the times now, it maybe a situation that whoever had the tracker left Moot hall for a pee and it started the time. Will have trackers fitted with "Any Network" sims in the next few weeks which should improve things for the black spots.
James aka Howfast
He was wandering about a bit James!! So what actually activates it once you've pressed the button!?
Any news on the other attempts last night? Someone went before and after Roy. The lads in front seemed to be going pretty quick!?
It's getting a bit painful watching Roy's tracker. So far down on schedule & just hitting the heat of the day I'd imagine. It was pretty grim running in Derbyshire yesterday from about 12 onwards.
Not sure what happened at Foxes Tarn? Seems to have lost the path? He says he's going to complete whatever Andy so it may be a long day watching the tracker.
Foxes Tarn looks a bit odd as it looks like they climbed up to Mickledore again. And it looks like they've backtracked on the way down Scafell as well - should have gone down a bit further then down by the scree rather than climbing back up I'd say. Mind you, maybe they're just tracker glitches.
There are just a few problem zones for the the Gps that seem to be frequent, dollywagon, mickledore, rakeshead. Couple more for the networks where transmission is delayed such as fence line of calva. Am generally amazed you get the reception you do. What networks function in wasdale?
PS - did you get anywhere with the functionality I suggested? Touch a point on the track and display the time at that location? It would really help those looking at tracks. Presume the tracker transmits device time stamps with coordinates?
He's got a big decision to make now: can he face the flog up Yewbarrow & leg 4 or not? If it's as hot there as it is here, he's just about to face the hardest leg of the lot I'd say. The first half of leg 3 will have been a lot cooler.
looks like he's jacked it in. Can't blame him at all! Though the trace could be a supporter who forgot to hand over the tracker, though I do think Roy was carrying it! A shame if he has jacked!
I can inform you that Roy called it a day at Wasdale.
I will leave it to him to fill you in the details, but I think it highlights just how tough this challenge is.
Big thanks for Jack who nav’ed us perfectly though the Leg,bad luck to Andy who had a big drive up for leg 4.
