Im starting to think this could be one of my favourite races, very steep climbs and decents but not to rocky. The distance is long enough to have a good old wobble towards the end.
My legs are currently in a total state of shock, even more so than after Borrowdale. This could be due to the fact that the decents are just as steep but you can take them a bit faster without the risk of breaking your neck on rocks.
Its a very similar race to the full tour of pendle in my eyes.
Glad someone else's legs are in a state of shock as well! Tried a 3 mile trot to loosen the legs last night and it just seems to have compounded the problem.
Thought the only way I could get away with the way I am walking was to wear cowboy chaps but apparently we have to wear a suit at work?:confused:
Was a great race, some real highlight parts amongst some really tough hills. Do love the fact it is quite grassy but still unrelenting. Will be a few recces before next year just for the fun of the course.

Sedbergh is one of my favorites though, just so runnable, esp that glorious section leading to Winder on that perfectly graded path.
I would wager that the section from the flank of Arant Haw to just before Winder is one of the most enjoyable, and quickest miles of any fell race in the UK. The Howgills are fellrunning country par excellence!
Might get back up there for some training soon

Yep still aching from Sedbergh, but no longer enough to stop me running. Was thinking of doing a proper running session tonight but seem to have lost my HRM chest strap.
I reckon I left it in Sedbergh. Don't suppose anyone found just the chest step thing? it is a polar one.

Love this race and will be there. It's the same day as Paula Radcliffe suffers more Olympic heartbreak in the marathon I think. Not sure if the times coincide (it's too late to be arsed to work it out!), but if they do, perhaps the kind and wonderful marshals can keep us abreast of developments as we stagger round.

I dont usually like to do a race i havent previously recce'd, and I'm not going to win the world navigating champ's anytime soon. But after Lowther run a lad was telling me all about how good this race is and how I should give it a go. I certainly fancy it as I'm currently alternating weekends with a road run/fell outing. (not looking forward to tarmac 20miler tomorrow morn).
Any advice much appreciated.

A couple of years ago I think some ended up missing out 4 by mistake and turned up at the Calf.
But 3 to 4 is due East practically all the way.

Water is plentiful and fresh up to Checkpoint 4 where you should fill up for the last main drag.
Try "flying" it on Google Earth - it gives you a good idea.

Well - back home and that was Hell!!
Slower than last year, and last year was pants.
Nevermind though - I got round - had a good crack. But my Swoops were struggling - picking up mud on the rabbit paths and then not having any grip on the wet grassy descents - I was falling all over the place!
Whoever the marshalls were on the Calf and Winder you deserve medals - it was grim up there, but thanks to all.
Roll on Lanzarote on Thursday.
