Any of you forumites doing the Rombalds Stride on Saturday when the weather forecast is :D for snow!!
I'll see you there then !
Hiya Ian! Yup its me :). looking to do the full thing at the phoenix this year, gulp. Trollers Trot is sounding more and more appealing :)
Are you doing Rombalds?
Hi Clairster and Ian (are you the Ian that posted on Osmotherley RW forum).
Looking forward to Rombalds and Trollers, I've been more a road runner in the past but look in on here occasionally when I do fell runs in Howarth area (Withins, and Auld Lang Syne), great fun. Plan for this year is more distance and more on the trails/fells.
I'm also hoping to do Calderdale hike in march and one out of the Woldsman and Fellsman. So loads of long slow country runs in training. No doubt I'll do Osmotherley again too :D
I'm doing Rombalds as well this Saturday and Trollers in March. I am a relatively new fell runner myself.
Saturday should be fun if the expected snow arrives. I did it last year in glorious weather and navigation was quite easy. The following week I went walking with friends from Ilkley along that route. But it had snowed heavily and visibility was really poor. Couldn't see any landmarks and we got hopelessly lost. Two hours later we arrived at the Cow and Calf!
How did everyone find Rombalds? The odd snow blast, lots of snow and ice but I still had the feeling it could have been much worse.

Thinking of doing the Myrtle Meander 24m on saturday, enjoyed Rombalds and live near Bingley. Can enter on the day , anyone know the route?
Myrtle Meander checkpoints are at Norr Hill, Egypt, Foxhill Primary school, Ogden, Oxenhope, Haworth, Harden & finish back at the school. Lovely route. Fantastic homemade cakes. There are opening times on the checkpoints, so if you're a fast runner, you'll have to wait or run slowly! No problem for the likes of me - and loads of others. Really nice day out.
If you are seriously thinking of doing it, why don't you enter in advance (will help the organiser if not yourself!)?
Cheers socks, will enter today.
Anybody on the SSC this Saturday?
Me me me! Love the event. Done it for a few years running (pun?) now.
I dunno, Socks. I'm a newbie here, though been doing the events every weekend for a few years. We probably know each other by sight without knowing it.
Hi Molehill,
You'll have to introduce yourself to me, but only after I've got my map marked up :)
Yes I am NH. I remember Mountaintortoise. Glad to meet you Molehill! See you on Sat.
Complete with your own website
I'll yell ..... and see how many answer
Everyone will think you'll be shouting 'juices', and there'll be a stampede of people fancying a glass of orange! :p
Yep, green Newport tops is a good clue. Except bound to have jackets on top at that time in the morning. We'll be with 2 other women.
Hope to catch you Molehill. It's your fault I'll be there! :)
You just want to be awkward and break the 'total leg covering' rule, don't you Mr1470? You'll have to carry tights in your bag!! :p
Molehill - where do you think we'll get to go on tomorrow's 'secret' route?
No idea, just can't predict ..... but with 4500ft I can't see us exactly skirting the bottom of the Stiperstones, they won't be able to resist sending us up there ;) . All on one OS to the West of Long Myndd (so not up there). Out East to Hope, Priest Weston, up Corndon; some of the Shropshire way????
Whatever, it will be a good jog out with plenty of grub - that's the main thing :D
Don't ask - 6 weeks of physio and rehab ahead :(. Only managed about 1 hour running.
Out with the bikes I guess.
Even mate Paul, had a bad day (tummy bug). Throwing his food up and then cramped solid for 10 minutes. I have 'bear with sore head' syndrome.
Oh Moley. Sorry to hear of your misfortune :( I heard a rumour that you injured your calf. Hope you get well very very soon, and hope to catch you at another LDWA event before too long. (Black Mountains Roundabout? Berwyn Mountain Walk?)
Ah, Moley, that WAS you with the injured calf. We caught up with you coming down the hill just before Todleth(sp?).
Hope it recovers well and you're back out there soon.
Saturday was THE best LDWA event I've done. A cracking route, full of interest across hills I'd not been on before (apart from Corndon). And the catering was top class!!!
Hi Molehill,
Good to see you on Saturday but sad to see you so curtailed by injury. Hope the calf recovers quickly.
Paul did well to complete the event as fast as he did. I suspected all was not well when I overtook him a few miles before the finish; it was only when he finished that I heard what had transpired, presumably after I'd passed him.
I agree with Mr1470, it was a superb event, amazingly dry and with fantastic hotput at the end - many thanks to the WI ladies, and thanks to Marches LDWA for their efficient organisation.
I'm fairly pig sick about it, as I felt really good and was just warming up atfer an hour, but I knew it was a risk as I was carrying the 'niggle' from 2 weeks previously. My fault.
Such a good route as well, really seemed a cracker.
Paul also received little sympathy from his wife - "He's been ill all week, so what does he do on Saturday, runs 25 miles". He was even worse on Sunday.
Women simply don't understand
I do, Molehill, I do!!
If in doubt, RUN. It's usually worth the risk (though not always, unfortunately, in your case this time). As for Paul, it was worth it - he'll be right as rain in a few days.
Calderdale Hike Sat 12th April 37m or 28m. Thinking of doing this as part of Three Peaks training or is it a bit near the date? Is anyone else doing it?
have talked Lady Slugge into agreeing to come on a challenge event with me
was thinking of doing Malhamdale Meander on May 3rd, but just realised there's no way I will get her to go up Gordale Scar :(
looking at other challenge events in north of england that weekend:
Falcon Flyer
Todmorden Boundary
Ilkley Moor
which is flattest/easiest terrain for a girly beginner?
(and please don't anybody try to be funny by mentioning Yoredale:p)
