Same thing for me. Ran it last year (it's short & brutal) but this year the missus and kids will be in along. The little playground and a meander around Hayfield should keep them happy for long enough, just hope it's nice - it was freezing last year! :(

If you've not done this one before, you'll love the start - just don't go off too quick!

Thanks Geoff sounds ideal for an hour, is the finish the same place as the start?

The start's about 1/2 km away from the finish. You run back past the start near the end, but then just keep going a bit further into the playground.

With the rain I guess it would be a bad plan to wear wave harriers ?

To get to the start do I just continue along valley rd?

Also what time should I give to get there from the scout hut?

Not overly familiar with downtown hayfield

Yes, follow Valley Rd to the camp site. Fork right just before the camp site field and the start is 50m on.

It's a bit less than a mile from the Scout Hut so allow 15 mins walking or a bit under 10 jogging.

probably - there are one or two very steep rough (tussocky) slopes... even if the ground is firm it will be skiddy on top

Agree with this!

I underestimated the distance last year and started 5 mins after everyone else.

At least I wasn't worrying about people standing on my head up Elle Bank!

Not quite "race related"(!) - where's good for lunch in/around Hayfield? Will have missus + young nippers in tow tomorrow. "Kinder Lodge" any good? :confused:

The Sportsmans Inn on Kinder Road (about 400 yds from finish - Grid SK044 868) is by far and away the best pub in Hayfield. Good food, Good Ale, Kids & Animals welcome & NO Riff Raff. :)

That was one tough fell race
That last climb up Mount Famine was a calf buster, once at the top and over the stile my legs didn't want to run, I had no feeling left in them :o

Thanks for going to the time and effort to put the results together – really appreciated.

Mount Famine reinforced to me what an odd thing fell running is – standing at the start ready to go straight up a unfeasibly steep overgrown bank can’t be a normal thing to do on a Saturday morning! Actually enjoying it and wanted more is even odder.
