Daleside you skiver!
Mark Walker from Rochdale Harriers took about 70 at the top. I'll post the link here in the next few days when they are ready
Piccies taken high up now on Rochdale Harriers website, including helicopter.
Results are on keswick-ac.org.uk on the news page. I haven't heard how the injured runner is, hoping its no news/good news.
did you have a good run best athlete?
Yes, I enjoyed it immensely despite the painful feet afterwards. Must get myself sorted foorwear-wise for fell racing. Must also get better at the downhill bit - I was appx 22nd at summit - 33rd at end. I missed the cakes though - was tricky driving home never mind walking back to the pavillion.
Interestingly I have absolutely no blisters or sore feet to report of. I wore Inov-8 MudClaws.
BUT, I also haven't run since Sunday because my calf muscles are agony. Really tight and sore. I am going to try a little cycle later on but other than that I can barely walk propa....
Wow! the race and placings were published in the Telegraph yesterday!
Flippin' Eck Marrow !
- Nice Work ! coming into some form then ?
MJ
Never mind the Torygraph, there's a double write up in the Keswick Reminder;)
Bit late...just got back from Grasmere after a weeks training - including Skiddaw! Reminded me why I don't take to the fells often. 21st was about average, but given my two mates were 1st and 8th I should have been a bit closer to them.
Good race though, and nice cakes.
Didn't see you Daleside or I would have said hello :)
Oh, hope the guy who collapsed has made a full recovery
You fellas didn't do too bad at Cornforth Barriers race tho'....
Ans what exactly IS 14AC club?
I fancy this one.
Left me crippled for a couple of days. It's a non-stop pounding from top to bottom. Hurts. Of all the fell races last season this one took the longest to recover from...
I seem to have been up there every couple of weeks recently, bloody awful route for the most part - so steep in places that you may as well walk and then lots of sharp edged rocks on the summit. The return to Keswick is ridiculously fast and (I find) difficult to enjoy.
So, yes, I'll be there.
Like last year, when it was by Andy Greenleaf (?), Skiddaw Fell Race has been won by an unfamiliar name - Jon Duncan from club "Warrior". He must be some runner beating Jon Brown, Ricky Lightfoot etc... although the name is completely unfamiliar.
Has anybody got a link to the results for the 2007 race?:)
http://www.keswick-ac.org.uk/ and look under race results Watto. Have a good race?
I think Jon Duncan is/was a pretty decent British Orienteer.
But that still shouldn't automatically make him so good at ascending/descending a killer like Skiddaw...
Good result!
Jon Duncan finished 3rd in the 2003 Ben Nevis Race ahead of Ian Holmes:

He also holds the record for Ben Rinnes, but hasn't done any hill races in Scotland for the past few years.

Jon lives in Norway, but is over at the moment staying with his Dad in Keswick. Bumped into him on Saturday and mentioned that I was doing the race, so he said he wouldn't mind a jog(!). It's the World Orienteering Champs in Czech next week so he is pretty fit at the moment. He took the descent steady as he didn't want to damage his legs too much; he hammered the climb!
Warrior is an Orienteering club for ex-pats (sort of) set up by Martin Bagness.
Phil Winskill, once of Dark Peak, soon to move to Penrith, thus joining the mighty ex-DPFR Timo Austino at Ambleside AC I presume...
Winkle you not shrugging off the brown vest yet are ye?
Nah he's not shrugging off brown vest he's just gonna replace it wiv a better one. With a yellow band.
Jon Duncan was, yesterday, part of the gold medal winning men's relay team at the World Orienteering Championships.
Does anyone know the date/ time etc for Skiddaw 2009?
Full details on p61 of fixtures calendar.
Thanks Ady in Accy,
A few moments of wondering where or what p61 referred to, I realised that it referred to FRA calendar, so I promptly joined the FRA and I am know in full possession of said calendar.
Happy days!!
Anybody doing it.
I thought i was working on the weekend of this but since its this weeekend; which i didnt realise, so i could do it.
Pretty sure Mrs BGSec will be there; I'll be watching, out on Jenkin Hill.
If you're doing it and you can find me, I'll lug a bottle of something up for you. :D
