From what I've heard you should be ok.
Also, like many trail centres Llandegla is SS'able. However, I was at Kirroughtree on my Inbred a few years ago and died on my ass. Too many short, abrupt climbs on the rocky section. No fun.

Not CyB, but lots of people have. You'll be fine, so long as you enjoy grunting. I've Pompino-d around the Marin and Llandegla without dying if that helps.
Cheers guys, decision made and saves me having to re-build the geared bike after it's winters hibernation..... I'll let you know how I go.
Any SS'ers out there - please note that registration to SSUK 09 is open today: http://www.ssuk09.com/page2.htm
Looks like fun!
Ahem, try this page: http://ssuk09.com/page2.htm
Thinking about getting a singlespeed mtb now i've sold my geared one, hadn't ridden it for over a year. Any advice as to the best buy?
Merry,
Take a look at :-

My mate snapped one up last June. He's well chuffed with it.
I have a new bike
On-one Inbred, Kona Unit, Genesis iO? Be some I'd look at if I was thinking of a new complete bike. Or if you have a few more pennies, have a look at frames at Sideways Cycles and get them to build you something up, they stock very nice components.
Genesis iO looks a nice bike, Evans cycles stock em, trying to sort something out with work about this ride 2 work thing, been riding to work for the last 9 years, think they should give me a bike for nowt!
May end up with one of those or a Kona Unit, cheers jumbly;)
I've been in the process of building one of these up for a while now, should have it finished for Summer: http://www.sidewayscycles.com/produc...id=113&clid=18
Good choice! I have a Voodoo Bokor.
Had cracking couple of days at Coed-Y-Brenin on the single-speed and now the trails round here are in cracking condition... have no desire at all to get the full sus geared bike out though... what have I become?!

Welcome aboard!
My mate's just bought a Marin Mount Vision 5.8, he's over the moon, i nearly fell asleep looking at it!!!!!!
You are all just a bit too close to fetishism you realise
I was planning to go up to UKSS09 instead of the World Champs at FortBill as there is no XC this year. Anybody else going to the forest and if so, who's racing? Got my cow bell ready to cheer - allez allez.
Yep, I am at SSUK. I'm hoping it's more drinking than racing, but I might train for both...
Fishbulb,
Which events and do you have a number yet? need to cheer the right Forumite and you got me into this stuff in the first place.
Events? Er, riding and drinking? There's no format up on the website as yet so I expect I'll be having a do at whatever they throw at me. I'm number 40 and I will probably be looking summat like I do on this pic of Dominions:

l to r. Me, Derby Tup and AJF
Ah, apparently this is what's on -
Sat afternoon - big ride across the moors
Sat night - food, beer, live band etc
Camping over Saturday night in a nice big field in the middle of the forest
Sun - race, prizes, home
More importantly, his bike looks like this!

Great Serotta vid! Not so sure about the bike tho but lovely wheels. How is the chain tensioned I could'nt tell from the pics?
Can't really tell from the pics but I'd guess either an eccentric hub or an EBB (eccentric Bottom Bracket). I also didn't realise at first that it has a funky suspension system built into the rear stays - the DKS system.
I blame the Yanks. ;)
Just saw this thread for the first time, thought I would say hello! I built my singlespeed a few years ago and it's still going strong. Don't think I'd go back to geared MTB now... also have a fixed gear road bike but that's still quite scary at the moment!

Just 2 weeks 'till messy fun in the forest!!
I'm taking my teenage nephew - NO, not like THAT.;)
We need to cheer people on so, who's going to race???
Pleeeaase let me know cos the little monster thinks SS is for bearded freaks who like Morris Dancing and steel frames. He obviously only wants to see downhill action and street freestyle (and totally inappropriate girls but that goes without saying).
Help.
http://www.robcrayton.fotopic.net/p58302423.html
Looks like I've got a beard but it's just mud. I don't know if there's going to be proper racing or whether it'll just be people showing how 'niche' they are. I'm taking my lad with me to lead me back to the tent from the bar...
PS Nowt wrong with steel frames. I'll pass on the Morris Dancing!
We'll see you there.
I wouldn't put it past him! Still, these days he will probably be joining me in sinking a few so the camera might be a bit wobbly... :)
Like the look of this, any thoughts/opinions?
