Just dug out me map for the weekend and came across a few things I scribbled down in the build up to my round, thought you might find them amusing.....
Me. What kind of head torch you using Dicka?
Dicka. Dunno haven't built it yet!!
Dicka, (behind me in the dark on Halls Fell Ridge) "not good....not good"
Dicka (again) Ken, midnight is around 12 minutes past one in Keswick!!!
and one from the Mrs. after texting her my route on a 40mile solo recce.
"ok darling, i'm off to the top of the drive to put out out the rubbish"

Toasty warm & humid, with a maybe little cooling shower by the looks of things. Will see folks up there tonight. :D
Any news on Bobert's progress ??
I ampleased to report that Bobert completed the BGR today in 20:46.
He was strong throughout the 5 legs. Lost a bit of time over the Dodds in the dark but then crept back onto then ahead of schedule as hte day progressed.
A superb effort, well done Ian.
Sorry but dont know about others at this time. i had to leave Keswick before I fell asleep into my pint.
Well done Iain, my mates Karl, Ken, Dale and Mrs Dale were supporting your round, you looked good at Honister so knew it was in the bag.
Well done Donkarlo, he made it round in 22.48, it was a pleasure to do the last leg with you mate, your a bloody star;)
Still a few out there when we left Keswick. Hope they get round:)
Nice to meet Baggins and Mr and Mrs Fellshoeshuffler;)
Should also mention Donkarlo was going out dancing last night:eek:
Virgil Tracy of Thunderbirds fame springs to mind:D
Hope you had a good night Karl;)
Well done guys :) Inspiring stuff ;)
Well done Iain; great time mate. You must have been in good nick. :D
Looking forward to that pint on 10 October. :D
Congratulations to Donkarlo too.
(P.S. Get your paperwork in fellas please.)
Congratulations to Andy and Dave from Pennine, Julien from Glossopdale and also to Phil (I'm definitely not doing more than the first two legs) Winskill who all successfully completed rounds yesterday with the support of the Pennine machine. Well done. Bad luck to Mark who wasn't well - I know you'll be back to go all the way round before long.
Haha. I knew Phil would do that! Well done all. Bad luck Marko. You didn't seem 100% when I left at Dunmail.
Great effort everyone. I was pacing Iain ("Bobert") on leg one: the pace we set out at going out of Keswick was blummin rapid. I cannot imagine Billy B was any quicker in the first 5 minutes !:). What is it that makes the Great Dodd to Watson Dodd section complicated ? It's meant to be a short 8 mins section. :p
A real joy to be back running around the fells with friends rather than repeatedly around the little bump of Bukit Timah which is, at 165m, the highest point in singapore:(
I had a great day supporting the two Tring contenders, Alan and Henry, who both finished very strong, and ahead of schedule in about 22.30. Good to bump into Marvin at Wasdale, Great Gable, and again at the finish.
Don't bump into him, you might make him drop something. ;)
Thanks guys, was a fantastic day, well done to all the other completers.:)
Thanks to all who turned out to help and say hello on the way round, it is humbling that people will go to so much effort to help somebody finish the round, much appreciated.
Thanks Marv and Daz for such great help. You definitely pushed Me and Julian to the limit. Felt quite a lot of pressure was on me once I had helpers at Wasdale, so giving up was not an option, although I really felt pretty rough at the end of leg 3. It hasn't really sank in yet as there was no build up with recces etc, so pretty pleased really. I now need to work out where I actually went...;)
Anybody know if the Tring lot got round OK?
Yes, congratulations to Julien, Phil, Andy and Dave. Julien and Phil seemed to be flying at the end and finished in a fast time. I struggled with stomach cramps (and several loose bowel movements:eek:) from Clough Head to Sergeant Man and then decided that I wasn't enjoying myself too much so Dan Riley and I retraced our steps to Dunmail :(. Pennine's support team were superb. I will definitely be back to have another go in the near future.

Well done Phil:D 11th Dark Peaker this year I think:eek: And to Iain karl Julienne et al, It was a near perfect day if a tad warm. I was on Scafell at Midnight in shorts and a thin base layer. It looked a bit cloudy towards the Dodds but was really clear and very warm where I was.
So much happened in those hours, so many memories. I cannot thank everyone enough. It was such a humbling experience to have so many friends at my side throughout the day, encouraging me with words and rice pudding. One day i will never forget.
Iain
Well done again Iain. Im sure I can speak for all of your support team, by saying we all had a great time in good company.
D&D
Yes, well done Andy Green, Dave Harvey, Julien Minshull & Phil whatisname. There was some serious hard effort put in by you guys.
Bad luck to Mark, but don't worry, you'll be fine next time.
It was a pleasure to accompany you all on leg 2, even if we didn't see a thing until Seat Sandal! It was also great to be in Keswick to see you all come in.
Well done to everyone else this weekend, too.
So that must have been you in the Planet Fear top I was chatting with briefly up Great Gable. Well done on your round. And to all the others.
As MarkR says, the Tring lads got round well in 22-31 (23hr schedule). They lost 20mins to navigation on leg 1 and were despondant about not making it up by Dunmail. But they pulled it back and more by Wasdale, maintained to Honister and pulled in another 20mins against schedule to Keswick. A storming finish, we went the cross country route to Portinscale and had a big gang out to get all the gates open. At 8 minutes to 10 they realised sub 22-30 was possible and both dug in, almost making 22-30. But the one minute seems a little academic after all that went before. A great day out. The views after the rain on Great Gable were incredibly dramatic - cloud hanging low in the valleys and hills silhouetted against a brightening sky.
Well done indeed Phil. If I ever try this, I think your approach would work for me - no pressure, just turn up and sort of end up doing it. I need to serve my apprenticeship first though and that hasn't even started!:o
PS Gather you have posted some fast times with the babyjogger? Have you done any fell races with it yet:D
3 children and about 2,500 miles on the clock when you took it over:p
Well done to the excellent and very efficient pennine crew. Particularly to Dave Harvey, you and your crew to bring the time back. Julian looked very comfortable - you'll have to find something harder next time. ;)
Well done Tring, I was a little worried for your contenders over Great Gable (probably more about how I was feeling at the time!) but the looked like they got a good wriggle on towards the end.
Phil Wosit - not a bad effort having only to have done a 21 mile as your longest run this year... :D
Well done all; fab efforts!
Did anyone leave a 10 litre water carrier at the Moot Hall on Saturday night? Tring posse perhaps? I can take it to the Saunders next weekend if it is a Tring thing and give it to Rick (full of water, and he has to carry it for the 2 days). All I need to do then is find a way to slow the other 39 entrants and I might be saved from embarrassment!
Cheers
Richard
21:37 for Phil and Julien after being about 20 minutes down on the 23 hour schedule at Wasdale. It was a storming finish. I felt a great deal of responsibility at Honister after they speeded up towards the end of Leg 4, and by Little Town I hadn't got much left (too many big hills last week) so handed over to Daz H to sprint in with them. Not sure of the exact times for the others.
