This was going to be part of our club's championship but it has been changed to a ROAD race. That's PANTS. Still a great club though! Will be attending Herod Farm along with a few other fellies. Saw the famous SWOOP today. Looks just like his picture.
A warm welcome awaits you at this cracking little race, which is just the tonic to rejuvenate tired legs and bruised bodies after the Kinder Downfall!
Just a note about the course folks - please note that on the first climb we will again be using the 'new' route which takes the public right of way through Herod Farm.
You'll possibly be aware that Herod Farm is now a private residence, and is no longer a working farm. The new owners have replaced fencing and stiles, and now have an automatically controlled gate on the entrance driveway, up which we run, to what was the farmyard. This gate CANNOT be opened manually. The new owners were very cooperative last year, and we have again asked if the gate can be opened by them for the duration of the race, but, if for any reason, you find that the gate is still closed during the race then you MUST use the step stile to the left hand side of the gate. A marshall will be positioned here to keep an eye on things. The gate and fences must not be climbed!
Once through the gate (or over the stile as appropriate) the race route passes in front of the house, and then takes a right turn a few yards after the house up a track to the exit stile from its grounds, where there will be another marshall.
That's about it, all I need to do now is try and fix some decent weather for Wednesday evening!

Big thanks to Werdna and his team, first time I've run this race and I really enjoyed it especially the climbs.
lots of Forumites there with LS and his camera ever present. I think he brought his twin brother as I swear I saw him twice.
Top tip though don't forget your fell shoes, those descents were a killer in road shoes Doh!

Glossopdale website is a little out of date, Herod farm has not been a working farm for at least 5 years and gates were put in approx 5 years ago!! Great hill to run up though, might travel down to it...

Herod farm has been a private residence for at least 5 years!! The gate got put in not long after the owners BEFORE the present ones moved in. The major reason I know this is, it was my mother in law who put the gates in and she definitely didn't run a working farm!!! The people they bought it off had retired for a few years as well.
My mother in law and her husband did find it weird that people came running up the lane once a year and didn't know why? Moving up here, joining the FRA and finding this race explains their mystery. Bit miffed I was busy tonight and couldn't make the race, have run this area quite alot, would have been nice to do it timed!!!
Some people spend a lot of time keeping club websites, results, championship tables and photos up to date. Thank you, that's very much appreciated to be told twice now it's out of date when, well, it says the same thing on the website.Quote:

Comments weren't meant as a criticism, more an observation. The thought of my mother in law on a working farm did make me smile.
I would say I try to be positive and non-critical. I do support my club and do help out with many things so know where your coming from re last comment.

Well done to everyone, especially those that had done the Manx Mountain Marathon at the weekend - Jackie, Jasmine, Julien, John (all the J's!) and half-fit Lloyd who only did the half marathon! Mind you, it was an impressive carbon footprint, Lloyd, flying back from Scotland for a 3 mile race.
Is that a 1st race in a year Dr H Tool or your 1st 1st place in a year?

Really steep climbing and tough course but lovely area and good running on the descents.
My 14 year old, Luke, left me behind on the way up, although I don't know the difference at the end yet... perhaps a couple of minutes.
The last hill was tough; I knew it was coming but it was still nearly as tough as the first climb.
Thanks to the organisers for putting it on... it was well worth travelling over for and have my lad make a fool of me... that's it, his progress will only go one way, and mine will go the other, for short courses at least.
Don't know why but I really like this race.Thank you Andy and Glossopdale and thank you Marvin (who drove home after the race with my bag in his car then dove all the way back to the pub with it!) Good to see the Doctor Tool out racing again - I'm enjoying a cup of tea from one of his Herod Farm commemorative mugs as I type as it happens, have also ordered a couple more of his excellent pictures.
