Re: Wanted - Borrowdale fell e
[QUOTE=Stolly;242546]Good point. Its almost certainly all my fault.
A told them that I'd run the route before (but was economic with the truth as to quite how I fared)
That says it all for me, backs your point its ok to lie and potentially be a liability
Re requirements for long races being over the top , that is a separate argument, the point here is, is it ok to lie, not everyone who does will have your level of experience and not least there is the issue of leapfrogging in those races with waiting lists.

And you have checked that there is not a reserve list and people ahead of you in the queue for a number?

Hey like I said I didn't lie. I told them that I'd run the route before which I had. And I wasn't a liability - I just checked back the results and I finished 344th out of 407 finishers with another 100 odd dnf-ing. 344th on the day out of 507 starters placed me comfortably within the race criteria I'd say.

I think there's water at Honiston but thats it, other than what you carry or drink from streams on the way. I reckon the weather will be wet so drink shouldn't be too much of a problem.

No reserve list event website says event is full but you can enter with a substitution along as the substitute can prove they meet the entry requirements on race day.

I meet all the requirement but not sure how fast I'll be, I've not done anything long for 6-7 weeks, aim to be in top third but who can tell;)

Re: Wanted - Borrowdale fell e
really looking forward to this now
be good to put a couple of names to faces at t'bash after - although I'd feel a bit of a prat wandering round going 'are you tussockface?' or whatnot

Ok - so define your statement "economical with the truth" a half lie?

No it was 100% true. I explained that I knew the route and had ran it before. They didn't actually ask me how 'well' I'd done it so I didn't have to tell them.
Anyway I'm bored with this. Maybe see you there Saturday Anti... well until you leave me for dust at the start that is.

Good - I win
Am not doing this as have just easing back in and though I meet the criteria I know my limits and would not try to a wing a race.

Re: Wanted - Borrowdale fell e
Does experience of several OMMs and LAMMs count towards the entry criteria ?
Otherwise I only have one fell race over 12 miles under my belt, a good few under 7 miles and regularly train over 10 mile runs.
....If so, anyone still got a ticket for this race going spare please ?
Cheers, Jim

Think you will struggle to be honest. This is stated for substitutions on the entry form:
(a) the substitute runner is able to demonstrate previous experience of long, arduous fell races and,
if he or she has not previously completed the Borrowdale Fell Race, he or she must have completed
at least two different category A or B long or two different category A medium fell races (race
categories as defined by the Fellrunners’ Association) since 1st January 2007
(b) the substitute runner must complete a Substitution Form at Race Registration on 1st August

Re: Wanted - Borrowdale fell e
^^^
Am I missing something then? on FRs alone, reckon I qualify (never was good at rules though!):
Also my friend only has MM experience, all more than 12miles a day + lots of climbing. would that qualify?
Category “A”
a) Should average not less than 250' (76m) climb/mile (1.6k).
b) Should not have more than 20% of the race distance on road.
c) Should be at least one mile (1.6k) in length.
Category “B”
a) Should average not less than 125' (38m) climb/mile (1.6k).
b) Should not have more than 30% of the race distance on road.
DEFINITION THREE : RACE LENGTH CATEGORIES
a) A category “L” (long) race is twelve miles (19.3k) or over.
b) A category “M” (medium) race is six miles (9.6k) and over but under twelve (19.3k).
c) A category “S” (short) race is under six miles (9.6k).
advice appreciated :)

Give it a try, no harm in trying. My mate stated a cat A long and the OMM as his experience and was rejected entry last year, but it was a champs counter. Your mate might struggle.

Re: Wanted - Borrowdale fell e
t' th'organiser...to save all this "anyone want my entry coz it's a much 'arder race than I might've realised when I entered online" just revert back to "entry on the day".
Sorry, I forgot, there's loads more brass to be med by fillin' th'entries online...then when only 'alf the pre-entered runners turn up on the day it's easier to manage all round...plus there's a load o'spare brass to spend int'pub after:rolleyes:.
