She said it is chucking it down at the moment but forecast is quite good for tomorrow. About 140 entered but about 10 dropped out due to the earlier weather forecasts and probably today's conditions. Sufferring with man flu at the moment but unless I wake up dead I will make myself do it:)

No 'Rodney' there :)
Re: All LDWA events thread.
Good luck Moley and all the other Plynlimoners!
Re: All LDWA events thread.
Yeah. good luck. Plynmimon has to win he prize fore the most boring summit ever, even when sober! It;s grey porridge.
Re: All LDWA events thread.
That's what Pendle was like this morning on "In Pendle's Shadow" before the sun woke up!
Re: All LDWA events thread.
De-lurking to let folk know that the events calendar on the LDWA website is now open to non-members, and already has details of off-road challenge events open to walkers, joggers and runners well into 2008.
The web site is here and follow the link to the Events Calendar, then filter for Type: Challenge. Delete the date in the 'Date to' field to get the complete listing.
If you haven't done a challenge event before, read the FAQs on the web site, so you know what to expect and what to take.

I hardly need add that despite a weather forecast of 'sunshine', the Pumlumon micro-climate stayed loyal to the area and covered everything in clag , it couldn't dissapoint all those who had travelled many miles from around the country actually hoping see something  .
And the bogs were knee deep, and the streams were full, and I told Alwyn at the start there were hardly any tussocks :D ..... he was not amused by the finish.
Wet + clag + sheep = Mid Wales.
Re: All LDWA events thread.
On the Pumlumon challenge is the Hengwm valley the most miserable bog filled water logged sodden pit in Wales? From the boundary stone to the shores of the Nant-y moch reservoir was hard going. I spent some of it trying to think of a better word than 'tussock' to describe the bloody big lumps that sat on top of the seething bog beneath. Chucked it down with rain during this bit as well:(
Not sure why but I really enjoyed the day - a proper challenge.
Finished at the same time as Mr Mole.(It's just he set off 2 1/2 hours after me:) ) Hope Mrs Mole enjoyed her walk.
Re: All LDWA events thread.
Couldn't agree more about the Hengwm Valley - it really is the most godforsaken place,I should think it is unrelentingly miserable even in the summer. In retrospect I suppose I enjoyed Plinlimon, the first long challenge I've done for 2 years. Took me just over 10 hrs and Moley was getting a bit worried, but I left a few young lads behind me who looked thoroughly knackered when they walked in later. How you lot run it I really do not know. Respect!!! The Missus AKA Mrs Mole

No. It's a really beautiful and totally wild valley. You must have been in the wrong bits of it. There was a good path on the north side of the valley most of the way with just a few short sections of tussock.
Top race and the rain was refreshing rather than annoying.
