Have fun Hobblers! Hope to see you at the finish
I understand that Duncan Harris won in about 4 hours and 3 minutes. Mark palmer was about a minute and a half behind. I was a lot further behind than that!
My pick for the winner went sour - his achilles went at mile 14! Pic below before things went pear shape passing Widdop Res:

Enjoyed this much better than last year, blew then 2 miles before end and lost time and places. This year slower overall pace but better finish. Had a shit week and spent first half mulling over issues losing focus. Something clicked at stoodley when I got myself angry and focused. 5.08 ish 15 mins faster than last year. Though i did finish intentionally together with a guy from Saltburn and through poor timekeeping a seconds difference was recorded.
Nice to see the lovely Stef F, enjoyed admiring ShaunandRachels new shoes and having a chat, said hello to Mountain Man (though sorry did not realise who you were when we were chatting). Met Mezza Foster and BritNick briefly (he was admiring my fetching outfit and i think tried to pull me - too grey for me Nick) and saw Tussockface before the race then not again so i assume he was ahead at the end.
Can I also just state that the offer of a nip at Makinholes was not my idea or a Keighley ploy to cripple the opposition, though I understand it did for at least one lady runner. I think a far more effective ploy would have been for a Timmy Taylors hand-pull pump to have been set up.
Well done all you Hobblers! I set up an unofficial water station in outside The Cross in Heptonstall. CVFR have got all the race gear in the village ahead of Heptonstall Fell Race next week so it seemed a pity not use it. Sorry I missed the front runners - it was a bit spur of the moment.
The Landlord at The Cross was really helpful, refilling the barrel and seemd quite interested in expanding the refreshments for 2012 - many also made use of his "facilities".
Hope you all recover in time for next week - its only 15 miles........see you back in Heptonstall on the 20th!
Well done to all Hobblers, twas nice to be offering my advice (and sometimes jellythingies) from the doorstep on Heptonstall Road, and to give AntiSocial abuse from yer own gaff when he's goin' uphill breathing out of ..... it doesn't get any better!
Well, I said it last year and I'll say it again... " never again!!!!"
Although a bloomin' tough race, because you feel its not that long, so you can push it a bit, and despite feeling dreadful for all the second half, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
My main and most lovely memory will be of Antisocial, who despite the rumours, is a true gent! He is a dab hand at fixing zips and galantly offered to fix my broken one. Not wanting everything to spill out I said "oh, yes please." And he obliged with ease and expertise!!! Everthing was tucked safely away in a jiffy. What a lovely man!
I was rather worried at registration when the local Bishop stood in my way, I thought he was going to demand I went to mass before the run. But as he turned away to straighten the thread on his pink bolero, I escaped his clutches. How lovely that Howarth's Bishop actively encourages his lambs to Mass!!!
Thank you everyone involved for my morning of nausea and several bonks!!
Thanks to Keighley and Craven for a bloody good day out, 7ish mins slower than last year, would have been more if not for that nip of Whiskey at Mankinholes (Cheers Luke).
Considering the amount of training i've (not) done, happy with that, enthusiasm renewed.
Nice to see all the usual suspects and thanks to Mrs. Crumblydown for dragging me round and not bashing my ears (too much) And of course thanks to Mr. C for the water, abuse and cracking homemade bread:thumbup:
I didn't do it, but the wife did, she got back to the car and found it clamped, with three thugs waiting in a van next to it demanding £70!
Not sure, but from what she said they weren't interested in talking about it.
I'll ask here when she's back, £70 lighter!
My legs are really aching! What a good run out that was. The hill training's obviously paying off - I was passing people from around Hebden Bridge almost to the end. And a time of 5:20, which I'm really chuffed with.
On the car clamping thing, Haworth is notorious for a private enterprise car park where the owner clamps anyone a second over their time. The police can't do anything as it's all legal. It's in Changegate I think, wherever that is.
Yes, the Haworth clamper. Changegate car park opposite the Edinburgh wool mill just a few hundred yards up from the school. Big TV program about it.
Another great day out. Thanks Brett and crew. It made me laugh seeing Anti dressed as a woman on the corner of Butt Lane of all places. very pleasant chap, didn't know it was me though.
I beat my last years time by 1 minute. OK seeing as I've had a cold all week.
Thanks again Brett and team, another great day out on t'Hobble :)
Anyone see that chap with the school gym pumps and no socks?
Did he get around alright?. Bet that was bloody painful later on
I saw both pumps and 5 Fingers, but only in the first few miles... I tried to imagine what it would feel like across those stony paths if it were me - I'd have crumbled into a heap by the side of the track. The chap in the 5 Fingers was running off the track whenever he could, on the vegetation. And that was only half a mile into the race. Bet they finished though - you'd have to wouldn't you?
You're welcome Steve, can't stand the stuff myself. It was reputed to be a pretty good Bourbon, nice caramel overtones and all that. It was interesting to see the range of reactions; one lasses face lit up like a christmas tree and she just banged it back, others just sipped frugally and a lot stood there staring at the bottle trying to talk themselves into it. One chap poured a bit into his water bottle and diluted it down to make it last exclaiming that it couldn't do any harm...that's the spirit! Nice to see the group of scots again near the back, always good craic with them lads.
Great pics from the Accymeister, cheers Ady, good to see you today mate.
Cheers Steve.
How did this handsome rascal go on?

Spoke to one of those at mankinholes, he was chatting about the idea of it being analagous to barefoot running. He had run in them before and wasn't breaking records but was quite comfortable when he stopped for refreshments with us. There was no bravado at all in his actions, seemed very sensible indeed.
Although gutted to miss Hobbling this year I still managed to have a good morning cycling around the Tod /Hebden bit of the route and watching you all suffer. I realise now that I probably met MrB and Biara but didn't make the connection at the time.
Nice to see the usual suspects, and apologies to those I didn't get chance to speak to. I reckon Mr Merrylegs downed his dram with a bit more gusto than anyone else.
Got very muddy on the way home and by 2pm was hosing down the bike in the back garden after having to de-robe at the door before turning the water on. Not a very nice image I suspect.
Well done to you all, and next year I'll be back!
Another epic and well worth the 400 mile round trip from Edinburgh although I think my position might have been a bit better if the finish line had been around the 28 mile mark! Although organisation was well up to it usual high standards I think a special word of thanks goes to the Scouts who seemed to be manning most of the checkpoints in a very enthusiastic and competent manner with plenty of words of encouragement for old nags such as myself. Plus also a mention for the young ladies back at the school whose home baking was quite superb, the thought of which was just about the only thing that kept me going in those last few miles. Given all the bad press the "youth of today" often attract it is nice to be able to paint them in a positive light and today was indeed a shining example. Well done to you all.
Buffs?
Love 'em!
Got several and never leave home without one!:D
Hope you had a good day you crazy kids... myself.. working:thunbdown:
I really enjoyed time-keeping duties yesterday. Great to see so many friends having fun!
High-light of the day: a mixed pair thrilled with 7hr13secs (they'd expected to be out for 8hr30min+ and were celebrating like they'd won. Lovely to see
Mr Charters, thanks for advice
Well, how's all the Hobblers feeing this morning? I feel better than I expected to, got round in a bit over 8hrs (I was hoping for about 8) so not too displeased with it. I certainly enjoyed most of the run/walk, apart from Heptonstall and that looooong road climb!
Met some nice people too, so it's all good. How did the guy in the FiveFingers cope with it all, anyone know? I did it in me trusty Wave Harriers, no feet issues at least, for me. Although they seem to have picked up a couple of drainage holes.
I was swindled by the clampers several years ago. I parked my car in an area where there were no lines marking spaces. I came back to find they had retrospectively painted a line behind my car and there was a clamp on it. I had the police out. They knew what had happened but couldn't nail them: it was their (the clampers') word against mine. I had to pay £75 to get it removed.
There are two things I took away from this:
1. The "security industry authority" has zero credibility. In fact it lends credibility to crims who defraud people out of money.
2. I am extremely sceptical about Edinburgh woolen mills. The car park crims were in and out of there all the time. Since I am not sure there is a formal relationship, I have taken the precaution of having nothing to do with them.
My first Wuthering Hike. A fantastic day out.
Despite my other half making doom laden predictions about wintry weather, you couldn't really have asked for a better day. I even had to take my top off going up the road to Heptonstall.
Those people who man the checkpoints are wonderful aren't they - backbone of the sport really.
What I'd like to know is - that bloke who shot off the front like a scalded cat going up Cemetary Road - did he win in the end?
It was a good day out, legs don't feel to bad today, Thanks to all the marshalls and organisers of this race! Maybe next year I may be able to sample all them cakes on offer! :p
