Re: Edale Skyline 30th March 2
It,s a miracle my legs are working again! Thanks to all the marshalls on the 2nd half for their patience and I hope the wind burn doesn't last long. Thanks also to the two ladies that put the pressure on me to keep going. Good organisation guys & girls. How about this deal for next year, fill in the gap between Win Hill & Lose Hill or scrape a bit off the top of Lose Hill then I might a more than a few seconds to spare at Mam Nick. Great day out

Re: Edale Skyline 30th March 2
I wonder if Steve T would do some clever technical stuff with the results like he did last year and work out the positions at each checkpoint?

Hmmm - somehow I wasn't all that interested in the splits this year as I wasn't running. However,
I'll take a look ... if they're in the usual SI form and reasonably clean I'll probably be able to do something.
Thanks Marv!

Thanks Steve and thanks for your encouragement as I reached your spectating point on Mam Tor:
"You've blown it now Swoop. You'll have to do the second half!:) "
And thanks Manhar although I think you did a lot better than I did. Well done!

Steve. This is excellent stuff, checked against a few runners and it really shows where I struggled and when I was came back at the end.
And a superb training aid. You think you don't want to lose places so try too hard too soon. Hang back for a bit longer and you will cut through the field.
A salutory lesson for the 3P's

Re: Edale Skyline 30th March 2
Steve, that's fantastic, and so quick. I'm really grateful. Now, if you could add an indicator to tell us who did the down and up it would be even better!:D
-
Re: Edale Skyline 30th March 2
Thats excellent SteveT - I can now see me 120th at Win Hill, 124th at Hope, 142nd at Lose Hill and 182nd at Mam Tor before retiring. A map of a race going completely down the toilet .
-
Re: Edale Skyline 30th March 2
I knew I started slowly but not that slowly (198th at Hope)! However, very chuffed to see I made up over 50 places by the time I got to Grindslow (144th) and only dropped a handful after then. So next year it's go a bit quicker from the off, sort out problems with bum bags, drinks bottles (stopped on the way to Win Hill) and shoe laces (stopped at Mam Nick), work on going down hill (all over the course) and who knows I may be looking at something much closer to four hours.
Cheers - Raymond

What I was trying to do, but failed and needed sleep.... was to do a sortable page so you can see your position at each checkpoint and your ranking for that section. First column for each checkpoint is the total time to the checkpoint, second is the split between checkpoints.

It's a good job I don't work in IT.... :o

Re: Edale Skyline 30th March 2
Thanks for the stats SteveT and Dom, really helpful. My race also went down the tubes when the wheels came off shortly after Lord's Seat. As IanDarkPeak has said:

Edale Skyline
I’m keen to do the Skyline next spring but noticed that last year there was a requirement for sufficient experience.
Would kentmere and the Roaches (as medium and long runs) be sufficient experience to get a place?
Also if I wanted to check the route anybody got a map on line?
Cheers

You'd have to check what it said on the entry form but I'd have thought so. The Roaches is just as hard a race even though not quite so long nor with the possible requirement to navigate.
Route is basically Ringing Roger, Win Hill, Hope village, Lose Hill, Mam Tor, Lords Seat, Brown Knoll, Top of Jacobs Ladder, Grindslow Knoll and back to R.Roger. I think the full details (GRs) are on the Dark Peak website. Most of the climbing is done in the 1st half of the race although if there's been a lot of rain then the bit from Lords Seat to Brown Knoll can be very energy sapping (boggy) AND hard to find your way in the mist (well I find so anyway!) then you have to pick a line over the plateau to G.Knoll when the path runs out.
Good luck.

Hope this helps

Re: Edale Skyline
The Skyline is a bit harder / longer than the Roaches and personally I find the cut off at Mam Nick quite tight. Thought about doing it for years when I was quite a bit fitter than I am now but a bit lacking in the long race experience.
Go on, give it a go, you know it makes sense.

Hi Novice if you have memory map I'll send you a track of the course. It is worth recceing the course espescially the second half.
If you want two good runs out of it try Edale to Mamnick and back to Edale, then Edale-Mamnick to finish. If you are brave you could always try the short cut:eek:;)

Last year it was on the 30th, one of the reasons it was put back a week or so was due to the date bein close to the High Peak Marathon.

Surely down & up's not really in the spirit of the event?
Which of the words "Sky" and "Line" are you having difficulty with, Daz?

Well im surprised you dont attempt it Hooker. It would sit well on your extensive CV;).
Maybe your just frightened of the big grouse that live at the bottom. The skyline route is for Geoff and Marvin

You mean you nearly beat him, or nearly had him believing that "down and up" is quicker?! ;)
-
Re: Edale Skyline 29th March 2
The down and up could be on the skyline if you looked at it from the right angle...

Ha ha! I told him several times that 'down and up' was not recommended (unless your name's Lloyd, of course), but he wouldn't believe me!
-
Re: Edale Skyline 29th March 2
Admit it was slightly slower BUT i did stop and have a snack at the bottom;)
