Lovin' it! 11 miles (or there abouts) at a plod, but what an amazing blue skies day, bit of snow on the Malverns to make it feel like winter lots of tricky icy bits that the 285's seemed to enjoy handling - one tiny slip as I bombed passed some walkers and that was it. You simply can't beat days like these.
A 3.5m march around Fewston to check how my knee was after XOTF, all good touch wood.
Had a delightful encounter with a little Robin, it seemed tame as it sat on the wall a couple of yards away as i passed it, so i stopped and it followed me down and landed right in front of me. It assessed me for a bit then took to the air and hovered in front of my face about 1/2" from the end of my nose before resuming it's position on the wall. I extended my arm and made a perch with my finger, it thought for a bit then twice in succession landed on my finger for a second, pecked at it and flew back. It must be used to being fed by walkers as i don't think it would be bold enough to try and threaten a person like that, never come accross such a tame Robin before.
Got back home from Lakes in time for a run up Beamsley Beacon with Stef in brilliant snowy conditions. 5ml/1000ft and great way to round off the weekend :)
Great short run tonight - couple of miles in the snow at 6pm, next step in the dog's return to running. The lights from city bouncing off the clouds and snow meant I didn't need a torch, and 3" of snow is just about perfect running conditions!
I'm about 50/50 for tonight - not sure if I'll be able to get there by car, and my calf's somewhat knackered so probably can't manage cycling there then running. Hopefully see you later though, any idea if the bolsterstone road from wharncliffe side has been cleared?
Hi Paul
I've just driven down the road from Bolsterstone to More Hall Farm(the climb tonight) and it is completely clear, I past two trucks going up. Road to Bolsterstone from Stocksbridge also clear.
Road along res is semi clear with compacted snow. short track through woods is snowy.
I'll be wearing trail shoes tonight. I won't be racing though just jogging round.
Talk is that we might run round as a group rather than race, followed by a beer in the Castle.
3ml / 500ft solo headtorcher around Farnhill Pinnacle. More snow than I expected :)
7miles 1200ft in the SNOW just now.
Amazing running surface...just deep enough to cover the ice, but not too deep to hinder pace.
Oh and size 12 feet help hehe :)
4 miles late last night along the trail paths in Cronton with the headtorch followed by 5.5 miles early this morning in the snow.
NOTHING for 4 days......serious withdrawal....XOTF could have been my last outing this year :(.....LET ME OUT.....LET ME OUT! :D
12k in my local hills. It was a tad knackering running in that snow especially when you are the first one on some of the paths. I had planned going a bit further but ran out of time (as it was my lunch break) and decided to cut it short. Came back by the lower reservoir where I used to take my kids sledging down the reservoir side when they were younger. It was good to see it is still being put to good use with lots of families out enjoying themselves :) As well as various wild animal tracks in the snow I did come across some Walsh shoe prints as well (a bit smaller than my 9s) so any forumites running round the Naden reservoirs outside Rochdale today ?
I did my usual four miler round hartshead pike which when fit takes me 30-35 minutes...........
took me 55 today
Pretty deep snow though cant run in it properley,at least 10 inches right at the top in the fields
14m/2618ft tough going in the snow, knee deep drifts in places, good, cold fun and earned a good bath.
4 mile with the headtorch tonight along trail paths and through farms around Cronton - lovely evening running in the heavy snow and blizzard.
7.5 -8 miles along the sea front, bit treacherous but guess what? I didn't fall on my arse once!!!!...now that's progress! :)
1 hours run on the snowy hills.
Please don't go Snow :p
Just been out to christen the Smock :)
What a day as well, suns out, snows out, brilliant!
Just an hours trot with one of the mutts over the local hills.
Merry Xmas :)
A bracing 5 mile road run to collect the car.
The calf is not fully recovered yet so I restricted myself to 20 minutes in the snow.
I have not missed a Christmas day run since 1990 when I was serving in the Gulf during the first conflict
I know it's christmas but the weather just cried out for a run. short trot before dinner up to the local trig. deep snow and cold wind with a deep blue sky above. only 4 mile but a lovely run
90minute run yesterday around Pin Haw above Lothersdale, with my friend Dave C and his labrador Oli. Knee deep snow, mist in surrounding valleys and clear blue sky on the tops made for a wonderful Christmas run
Out for an hour this morning on the hills, nowhere near as good, all the snow has turned to ice and has started melting, meant very slow running :/
Went on a ten miler down trans pennine trail and back down canal path not to bad bit slippy yesterday,Just tried to run down trail and its sheet ice ! the rain has turned the slush into an ice ring
50mins along cinder path, siome farmers and fields and sea front generally trying not to fall down on sheets of ice else where...would like the ice to disappear now please as i am tired of running at a snails pace!...oh well least i got out :)
Let the side down with my first non-running xmas day for a few years after two shortish (35 + 40 mins) icy/snowy runs on Weds & Thurs. Chevin Chase race today - 8.5 miles including to/from start/finish & warm up. Pleased with my personal worst by c6 mins :cool: as already decided to treat it as a training run!!
tough run today thanks to the deep snow, first run in a week so felt well knackered:rolleyes: I bit too much ale yesterday! Seems the snow just sticks around forever on Ovenden moor had to run along a wall for about a mile thanks to the depth on the tracks on the tops!!! Still good to eventually get a decent session in feel good for it now
Nice but slow run today - 9 and a bit miles, 2400feet climbing, took about 2 hours... Snow was mid calf height on Moscar Moor, about 6" deep on Bamford Edge, but then mostly melted on Derwent Edge and Strines Moor.
Snow's knackering! particularly when bounding down a track which is mostly 2" deep in snow only to sink up to my waist. Monday's Bradfield boundary run should be a tough one, and I'm being a wimp and only doing half - good luck to those doing the full thing!
Only time for a light 5k on the roads this morning now the snow has disappeared.
Did Keighley & Craven Boxing Day duathalon today. 6ml road ride on mtb followed by c 3ml/500ft run. Great fun. Cheers brett! :)
no training since tuesday, fell on ice on wednesday landed on the base of my spine doesn't hurt now just waiting for this white stuff to melt..
Over at parents' in Hadfield so an easy hour from Tintwistle - A sort of reverse Gravy 5 & a bit but missing out Lees Hill summit. Nice and wet underfoot.
7.5 miles ish along the sand dunes at blyth sustaining some nice bleeding legs from the marram grass...great stuff tho!
