I thought I was ranting too much after a glass of wine and got a bit upset over my mother in lawÂ’s situation during lockdown. But the gist is IÂ’m not a happy bunny and no one is actually following any of the scientific evidence that is now out there.

Interesting. Clearly, some of those testing +ve had it some time ago, and are no longer infectious. But they still had it at some stage. The idea that labs themselves are now contaminated with RNA fragments resulting in false positive tests is a worry. As to how many cycles of PCR amplification are needed to give a positive result, it does not correlate directly with viral load and infectivity - how much RNA is on a swab is not the same as how much RNA the person concerned is harbouring. Labs that have given +ve, then -ve, then +ve results on the same person are presumably not too contaminated. The concept that almost all of these are not reinfection is an important thing to know.
