Yes but that wasn't the right outcome. We will need to keep on voting until we decide to remain. We will then be following the well worn track of other European countries who have been made to vote again or been ignored when they defied the EU and their own establishment.

Democracy shouldn’t stop because you want it to. Although I can find a number of examples where it has if you like. They tend to get the coolest uniforms if that makes any difference.

It’s a possibility. Not necessarily a possibility with a high probability but there nonetheless.

A lot can happen in a week in politics, a lot more can happen in a decade or two.

I wouldn’t want to assume to know what the political landscape will be x or y in 2030 regarding the EU. Some IMF bail outs might change everything. Then again, we might fix our workforce skill shortages to meet the modern global economy in style and learn how to negotiate our way out of a wet paper bag.

So effectively we'd be having a referendum anyway. Why bother with the first question?

I think it's inconceivable that people would ignore the the result of the second question regardless of whether people wanted to be asked it.

So let's say a referendum is held and "The People" vote to remain. Then over the next couple of years suppose some people who voted Leave can't accept the result (just like some remainers over the last two years) do we hold another one? Best of three or shall we make it best of five to be sure?

Best of three then paper scissors rock.

What’s needed is a clear majority, and of the electorate overall not just those that voted. That in my view should be enough to settle the matter for several decades.

How you achieve that is the real question.

For what it’s worth, I don’t think a second referendum before Brexit would achieve that. Too many people dismiss what they don’t believe as lies so, I suspect, what’s required is material consequences (or the lack of) in daily life.
