Great race conditions today, the drag over Ox stones to the valley was hard work though. Did quite well but totally fluffed my descent of Carl Wark and forfeited a few places. Oh well, sometimes you have to learn the hard way.
Enjoyed that rather a lot. Apologies to whoever followed me up through the heather on Houndkirk Hill, for some reason I completely forgot about the track. Hope the hobblers weren't anything serious, and thanks to all the marshals etc.
Results are up:

Great race today, really enjoyed it. The crisp cold weather made it a good day for a run. On the whole had a good race, really enjoyed the decents. Got a second wind from the edge to houndkirk, only to come off the hill on totally the wrong line loosing loads of places cutting back up to the bridge. Bugger
The Totley guy who went down is alright, nothing broken just rather swollen!
Enjoyed the race. Got a bit off course coming off Houndkirk and lost position, ah well. Live and learn.
Massive thanks to all the marshalls aswell, did a brilliant job.
Yes, good race. First time for me and we'll ('Pensby' not 'Pensbury' as per results) be back - Probably make it as one of our fell league regulars. I was one of the 'hobblers' having tried to cut past some people through the heather on those narrow tracks and discoverde that heather's full of rocks - fell and cut open my ankles a bit but nowt bad.
Started recceing this last weekend. I did it in 2011 but my girlfriend and her mate are planning to have a go in 013. Slight confusion over CP5 tho... in 2011 the CP was at Winyards Nick and that's still shown on the race map but the list of checkpoints now says 'Over Owler Tor' which is significantly different. Any idea where the CP will actually be?
PS - we've decided to leave any further recces until after the bracken has fallen... the return from Houndkirk Hill to HoundKirk Road involved crossing a sea of the stuff!
Not sure which list you are looking at - here is the correct map off the Website > http://www.totleyac.org.uk/2012Serie...er_tor_map.jpg. The race went to Owler Tor about 3 years ago to add some distance to the race because we lost access to fields after CP9 & had to go straight onto the main road to finish. But I suggested adding CP10 instead, so we re-located CP5 to Winyards Nick as the terrain from Owler Tor to CP6 wasn't too clever. Bit early for reccying a January race isn't it - we've only just run the Exterminator!
Thanks for the full explanation Darth. I must have an older copy of the map.
Yes it is early for recceing it but the girls have this as a major objective so want to familiarise themselves with the course as much as possible and since I've run it I was pressed into guiding duty... :o
