Re: Haworth Hobble/Wuthering H
Re clamping, my role was to direct people away from the school playing area we normally use because it is being resurfaced. The caretaker of the school was anxious i did not tell people not to go to the Changegate cp in favour of the other cp's because if the owner found out he was worried the owner would link it with the school and go to the press. Owner is front page of our local paper this week claiming how shop keepers in Haworth are driving customers away rather than him and his practices and is extremely self publicizing - reveling in his notoriety.
Several people asked about car parks by the school rather than the further Sun st and i told them clearly about Changegate and its risks though i think some people went there anyway.
There was a press story of a couple of week ago of a mother whose baby was distressed as it needed feeding so she pulled in the car park intending to pay but fed the baby first. They clamped whilst she was breast feeding sat inside the car.
Its a shame that this will have spoiled at least one persons memory of what was a great day.

Re: Haworth Hobble/Wuthering H
"one lasses face lit up like a christmas tree and she just banged it back, others just sipped frugally and a lot stood there staring at the bottle trying to talk themselves into it. "
It hit the spot and was just the boost i needed-kept running in the hope that the next checkpoint had some more-a real "whisky chaser"! As said before many thanks to all the marshalls.

Re: Haworth Hobble/Wuthering H
As my longest run since early Summer has been about 10 miles, should I have done it?
Aching today, but it could have been much worse if the weather had been bad. Had planned to retire at Heptonstall, having forgotten it was no longer a checkpoint but luckily the ibuprofen started to work from there so managed to recover a bit of lost time and avoided a PW (by 27 minutes in the end). But whereas last year 6:50 was a doddle with a very gentle first 10 miles, this year's 7:30 was hard. Suppose I can take comfort that it's as fast as my debut - 23 years ago.

When I first started running cross country in the Army in the late 70s, we weren't allowed to wear anything other than gym pumps. Nike were frowned upon as being a bit unfair and 'flashy'. Only 6 or 7 miles per race, though.

Re: Haworth Hobble/Wuthering H
How quickly do the results usually appear? The KCAC website appears to be down today.

Re: Haworth Hobble/Wuthering H
Site back shortly along with the results!

Re: Haworth Hobble/Wuthering H
Spotted a Tod lady in the 6 mile Roddlesworth race this morning with yesterday's Hobble in her legs - was going well too - good show I thought!

Re: Haworth Hobble/Wuthering H
Wow, what a difference. This was my 2nd HH, last year I enjoyed a leisurely get-round run with my pal Bill - this year I entered to race the route and knocked 1 hour 25m off last year's time. Still had time to scoff biscuits, juice, a hot dog, donuts, currant buns and of course some whisky (not all at the Mankinoles CP though)
Many thanks to all the marshalls and helpers.
Does anyone know where the photos taken near the first checkpoint will turn up?
PS. Trafford 10k today was not much fun.

Re: Haworth Hobble/Wuthering H
Thanks to you and your helpers for a great event Brett. I feel suitably punished for not giving it enough respect. Started to hurt halfway round and just never got any easier. My partner thought he was going to struggle to keep up was the one who ended up dragging me around.

Re: Haworth Hobble/Wuthering H
Thanks for a great day out. Drizzle when I left home and I thought we were in for a damp cold day- it was glorious. Great company all round- nice to chat again Andy and sorry I couldn't keep up. Clive with jelly babies on road up to Heptonstall was good. Biggest thanks to Helen for her company for much of the way and for making me try to run when the body was saying no. Hope it was not me that led you astray near te end - I stupidly follwed 4 guys in front of me , all the time thinking it was wrong, which it was! Rick the way you motored up the hill after Hardcastle I was convinced you were off and gone?Amazed I was only a minute down on last year as it seemed much worse for me in the middle section

HCB's were great they got me round I ate 4. I even had a hot dog. Usually rely on gels but made a conscious effort to eat solids this time and it did make a difference and a used the gel for top up.

I didn't know Chris & Rachel were doing that (assuming this is Chris H & shaunandrachel). They didn't seem to be holding back much yesterday, so they must be pretty done in now. Good effort!

Very well done, Ell and Back is a tough route in itself, done the event and used it as a training run as it passes through where i live, never the day after the hobble though, respect.

Re: Haworth Hobble/Wuthering H
felt bloody crap most of the way round but stuck it out to the end. BUT the upside is that i met some great lads out there. pity the majority of road bashers don't talk, they should try an ultra for a great 'crack' between fellow sufferers!

Are you worth talking to?

Re: Haworth Hobble/Wuthering H
haven't got a clue, ask lads that i was with....either i was worth talking to or they were too knackered to run away!

Don't worry Anti, you're safe - too hirsute for me. Nice to meet you though all the same. :p
What's all this about alcohol at Mankinholes? I wish I'd known. I could have been half an hour faster.
Thanks for the biscuits Ady. I did avail myself of a cheeky little Blue Riband.
Many thanks once again to Brett and helpers for another great event. The turnout seemed massive this year.
I've uploaded my pictures. Anti and Fly make appearances. Anyone else?

Haworth Hobble/Wuthering Hike
Fantastic Event!
Route, organisation, even weather pretty much spot on
pottered round with clairster in 8:24
fueled mainly, in my case, by 3 jam doughnuts and a shedload of shortbread biscuit :p
great pics from Ady and Nick (in whose I can spot myself, Marvin, John4of5 & merrlylegs)

Re: Haworth Hobble/Wuthering H
My first Hobble and I really enjoyed it. Loved the route - especially the first part over the moors and around the reservoirs listening to the skylarks, grouse, curlews and lapwings serenading us. I took it quite slowly as my legs were still pretty tired from the marathon I did 2 weeks ago but was pleased to finish in 8h 27min. Made the mistake of having a hotdog AND a jam doughnut at the lunchtime checkpoint and had to walk for about 2 miles while they went down!
Many thanks to everyone involved – had a cracking day out
-
Re: Haworth Hobble/Wuthering H
Seems the clamper who are clamping in Haworth are acting illegally as they are not registered with the SIA, just for future reference!
No sorry they are registered.

Congratulations on your time - and your strong constitution! All those miles after a marathon! And your digestion is even sturdier than your legs - a great asset for running ultras, I believe.

I'm certain that climb out of Tod is what brings on the dreaded cramp. Well that then getting over the next stile on the way to Mankinholes :o

Aye, but the Whiskey at Mankinholes cures all ills! No cramp for me this year, just a bonk at Penistone Hill but job was reet by then:thumbup:

Made my laugh when i was offered it, i thought no thanks i'm an athlete, then in a split second decided i wasn't and downed it, then felt like one for 10 mins till the effect wore off!
Good to see you and Stef as well.
Crumblies are good for moral, abuse and homemade bread:thumbup:

Re: Haworth Hobble/Wuthering H
Emma, I'm going to assume it's you that me, Louise and John the blistered geordie were with for a good part of the way round. Didn't get to see you after the finish, but I certainly found it easier going with someone to chat to at times so cheers for that! Under the eight hour mark next year, eh?
