100 miles with 15,361 ascent - a good day (and night) out :)
Ive got my entry in for the Kilburn Kanter, North Yorks. 2nd time i'll have done this, the first was lovely with lots of food and cake and mud :o
John O Gaunt tomorrow, inov,s claws or Hooka's ....????????
Thanks
I am not doing the LDWA 100 next year (although I was very tempted) but my focus is on some long routes in Scotland and the lakes next year.
But good luck and enjoy all
I'm on this too reverend only having a jog walk round though , let's hope for a Fine day.
I'm looking at Todmorden Boundary on 4th May...
anybody know if they're happy with runners on that one?
[not that I'll be going much faster than a fast walk!]
Not done that one sorry Daz. Not sure if it's always been on the early May bank holiday weekend, but if it has it means that it clashes with marshals' LDWA hundred which I've either done or helped on.
The 2014 Two Crosses Challenge Event results are now available on the East Lancs LDWA Site here
Anyone doing the Malhamdale Meander this weekend?
Hello Redeaston - yes I'm planning to be there tomorrow. It's just up the road for me so no excuse not to, plus as stolly says it's a great route. The weather forecast isn't looking brilliant but hopefully it won't be as character-building as it was for last year's Meander. Have a good run if I don't bump into you tomorrow or work out who you are.
Hi Martin. I guess it was you I was talking to just before the start when debating if we should wear jackets or not.
Weather made it tough in places but like you said it's a great route. Hopefully I can do it again some time with less rain so I can see the views better. 3:28 for me.
yes that was me - and it never occurred to me to ask whether it was you I'd swapped messages with - obviously too preoccupied with the jacket/no jacket issue..... you and the other two front runners were flying and that must have been as quick a time as there's been for a fair few years. I had one of those runs that always felt like a bit of a battle, but was surprised to end up getting round as fast as I ever have - 3.40/3.45ish. I reckon it's 5-10 mins faster on a decent day with less wind and dry underfoot. that's two pretty poor years in a row for weather now, so next year I'm sure is guaranteed sunshine - maybe see you next time round.
I'm all packed for the valleys 100 tomorrow. What better way to spend a bank holiday weekend than running 100 miles through old Welsh mining towns in the rain! Brilliant, anyone else coming?
Rod Hull is walking the double, 200 miles and 30,000ft is a good stroll!
He's currently 70 miles into the first round (he has some helpers for company) in fairly crap conditions. He is a tough lad.
That was interesting. 14 hours of rain which cleared to drizzle and showers.
Rod completed his 200 miles within the time, a fantastic effort showing great mental and physical toughness on a challenging course in horrible conditions. He certainly did it the hard way.
200 miles is a f*** of a long way with an emu.
Whoops, got his name wrong, he's Rod Hollands, not Hull. I'm a bit tired and addled myself!!
Thought it was a decent effort for a bloke who's been dead for 15 years
He used to walk with a friend, we called them Rod and Emu, hence the Freudian slip.
caught an interesting programme on the LDWA 100 last night on radio 4 at 11:30, Lives in a Landscape: The Longest Walk, focussing on the walkers not runners as you might guess, although you can't tell the difference with some of us, granted :-)
Many 'walkers' are faster than many 'runners' in these challenges. I got beaten by 9 walkers. I'm coming round to thinking that I should always go on the walkers' start regardless of the checkpoint opening times. It seems that not running on the first day pays big dividends later.
Moley, nice to meet you after such a long time. Sorry I didn't recognise you at first with that caveman look you're now sporting. ;)
Well done everyone who finished this weekend - I thought it was hard enough on the marshal's event when we had decent weather. Truly horrible weather this weekend! Anyone who even started deserves a medal! (or certifying....) And as for Rod - just brilliant!
Good to see you again Nick, I don't come out of my Welsh cave that often, as you could see.
Bit of a mudfest and my feet are a mess, otherwise feel fine now. But glad I wasn't going round for a second time, that does seem silly in those conditions!!
Dovedale Dipper on Sunday - anybody else...?
I wish but I dare not. I hope the weather's good for you. It's a nice event is that.
Anyone doing Settle Saunter on Sunday and driving from Ilkley area, by any chance? Wondering about car share.
