Re: High Peak Marathon 2011
"Started in 1971 by the University Scout and Guide Association ( now called The High Peak Club)"
Just for info the High Peak Club was originally the University Youth Hostel Club and changed name in around 1992, as we (I was on the commitee at the time) thought it better reflected what the club was about at the time, namely walking, climbing, biking in the High Peak. I have fond memories of marshalling at Bradfield Path and Snake during my university years.
At the time thought anyone who ran the HPM was mad (probably correct!) but have entered the last couple of years with no luck(must be getting mad in my old age). Maybe next year we'll be lucky - give me a chance to wear a 1992 vintage HPM T-Shirt:wink:

[QUOTE=Filthy Rich;381101]Belated reply to Stolly and others to explain event and hopefully relieve some frustration.....
Filthy, your post made my brain hurt....however...
I support the current set up, think it works well and would support the notion of not changing it much, if at all.
On the historical side, does anyone know why there isn't a CP on Mam Tor?

Interesting to hear how it seems from the 'other side'. When I ran it a few years (seemed a fairly normal thing to do), I thought that the students who went out into the middle of Bleaklow to marshall must've been mad!

Keep posting as you will get in, there's always lots of drop outs, if nothing turns up just come to the start of the race, I'm pretty sure you will get in.
Did the first bit last night to Moscar with the "Nuns" Squad, lovely night for a run.

Re: High Peak Marathon 2011
Looking forward to this and training hard but getting all 4 team members together for a night reccie seems to be defeating us. If anyones out this coming weekend and is happy to have me tag along i'd appreciate the chance for a reccie, day or night. Free from Sat afternoon. PM e-mail etc. Cheers

Re: High Peak Marathon 2011
Agreed IDP. A clear moonlit night with the ground just starting to turn crispy over Moscar Moor.
Did we really see lights half way up Stanage?

Re: High Peak Marathon 2011
Had a walk round Featherbed Moss / Swains Head area this morning, with a potential team member, and it is BOGGY. A lot can happen between now and March but it is very sloppy underfoot at the moment.

Re: High Peak Marathon 2011

Should have said: PM me if interested. Phone's broken, so not on here that often until I get a replacement. I'm keeping up my training and have the Friday booked off work, just in case, so even if it's fairly last minute, holla.

Re: High Peak Marathon 2011
if you have any spaces on your team please PM me.. also have another 2 runners that i ran with last year wanting a place...
Thanks Phil

Tbh, work has been mental the last few weeks and my training has suffered. I doubt I'd be up to this at the moment.

Re: High Peak Marathon 2011
conditions under foot are awful, boggy and deep water every where, even the dry bits. There must have been alot of water running off the hill as I kept coming across strange cones of rocks push in to piles at various points, i'm sure the rain will have washed these way before race day.
22 miles today lots of people on the hill, glad i got an early start. top of cot gate to Wainstones and back via grinha.

Re: High Peak Marathon 2011
Me and Helen recced the nice bit yesterday, Mill Hill to Moscar via Stanage Edge. The weather was fantastic almost spring like, we had the best time. We saw lots and lots of millstones strewn all over the place below Stanage Edge, what's that all about Ian?
Just need to do one more recce of the nasty bit and we're ready to go!

Stanage is made of Millstone grit, guess why it's so called! Millstones are found all over the peak, I believe that the market collapsed so they were just abandoned where ever they were. Theres about 60+ around stanage alone. They'd make great garden Decorations

Re: High Peak Marathon 2011
Thanks Ian that's cleared up that little mystery, they are very impressive though.

Re: High Peak Marathon 2011
Hi all,
One of our team members has thoughtlessly got himself a groin injury (I haven't asked how). So team 'Lazy Pie Eaters' are looking for a replacement. The team name says something about our work ethic :-) We did it a few years ago and came in just outside the middle, and will probably do the same again. so not serious podium seekers, just out for a laugh and the challenge.
Anyone fancy a go? Applicants will need two legs, and a sense of humour.
LS

Re: High Peak Marathon 2011
If there are any more teams with places going begging then I would be up for a run out. It would fit in with my preparation for the Lakeland 100.
Contact details on my profile or PM me.
Never done it before and would probably be middle of the pack.

Glad to join team 'The Lazy Pie Eaters', thought I'd get some practice in tonight, so have just finished a 'Steak & Ale', very tasty.
