Blimey!
Flippin eck Martyn, what an adventure you had....your blog had me gripped.
All the best for the future pal, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you....full respect.
Recent race at Beamsley Beacon

What's that? 5,000 word race reports are the in thing?
After 2 months I have finally given up on/finished a run down of Euforia dels Cims in Andorra. It's really long and maybe not all that coherent but in my defence that's a fairly accurate reflection of the race experience. Plus it probably has fewer words per kilometre or per hour than many a half marathon race report.

I was recently contacted by Limitless Pursuits, to do a Q & A on fell running and my fell running blog...I've copied the link below, hope it's of interest to one or two of you :)

This is reall nice
I've been so busy working and travelling recently that I've not had much time for writing. However, the FlettaTrail Malonno deserves a blog, it's an amazing race.

Outstanding blog Ben. We must visit Malonno one day.
Over the past three days my blog has spread out and communicated via nine other blogs, including those of Ben Mounsey, Steve Birkinshaw, Nicky Spinks, Moire O'Sullivan, Cal Ferguson, Dan Haw and Jonny Muir. It is all part of the 'Running Hard Blog Tour'.
Visit the individual blogs (via the links on the blog whose address is https://itsahill.wordpress.com/2017/...ard-blog-tour/), to find out more about the book, it’s author, how someone is planning on emulating Kenny Stuart and John Wild’s training, and also see an extract from the book chosen by Ben Mounsey (and why it had a resonance for him).
An ill fated trip to the lakes last weekend...

Pennine AGM last Thursday, and with nobody caring we decided to scrap our blog on the Website. We are paying for server disk space and nobody was contributing to/or even reading the articles. I guess creating our private Facebook page contributed to it as people now use that for disseminating information/a bit of banter. Are we just getting too lazy to read/write longer articles? I just lost interest in my own blog as have many others I guess.
I personally love to read a good blog report. But I guess we all have personal preferences and dislikes. As a keen racer, I'm not really interested in blogs about training runs, or long-winded details of someone's arrangements the night before (although a bit of context is undoubtedly a good thing).
The best blog page in my view is Tested To Destruction, I'm sure the guy is on here. Also a fan of Calvin's page, which has a good balance between race history, training and then the race itself.
Unfortunately too many blogs are not fantastically written and are pretty uninteresting to anyone but the writer themselves, as a record of their day.
(As a regular contributor to the training page on this very forum, I'm fully aware of my hypocrisy here, as I'm sure nobody really cares about my weekly track sessions either!)
Very much enjoyed that read Ally - thank you. Captivating narrative as I sit here, in the warm, nursing a dodgy ankle. Made me smile and wince in equal measure, recognising my very own, not dissimilar, navigational f-ups over the years. Bloody great effort on the run and you're right 'it's great' :) .

A bit about Marmot Dark Mountains last weekend here. I'm not sure how often Steve Birkenshaw gets on here, but he's written something also.
You forgot to mention the heather
Awwww, keep at it Travs, I care. Actually, I really like the training posts as it often gives me ideas to incorporate into my own. I will often transpose "track" "for run around our field" :-)
I also love a good blog. The hubby started one when embarking on his 50@50 but due to work pressures he had to give that up at about Race 24. He is going to write a report at the end of the Challenge.
Good news is, he has just left for his last day at his current job and starts a new one on Monday. A good move to what seems to be a really good, proactive company.
Keep on blogging guys :-)

Musings about road running mostly :)
Interesting...
Despite being a contributor in the Training thread, I know little of the science behind it. But a very good marathon runner from our club (2:15 or some such unbelievable time) advised against running 'long' races in training for a marathon, i.e 20 mile races. He said concentration should be more on the quality sessions and you need to be running consistently hard and fast, and the 20 mile effort would take too much out of you.
But he, and you, are far faster than i'll ever be, so take it with a pinch of salt. I know he ran a 2:15 marathon one week, followed by a 2:17 the next, and had a 10km time of 30mins-something, so i'm sure he knew what he was talking about.
good to take a step back and consolidate mentally every now and then, something I'm not great at doing. I've done more road running the last few months, also aiming at Manchester, to mix up my training after 8 years of fell bashing - change the stimulus.
I did a few road races (10k, 10mile, half) in December having stayed clear of the black stuff (save road relays and the odd park run) for ~5 years. This year everything long's been M-pace targeted (6min/miles, in actuality I'll be aiming at 6:15 on the day), with Tuesday intervals counting as a good secondary long run. I'm doing Salford 10km Good Friday where I'll be going 10k pace not M though!
I was initially going to target ~2:35, but the lure of an Edale champs race and the threat that 'everyone fecks up their first marathon' meant I haven't committed fully to 'proper' marathon training, though I have got plenty of more roady miles in than normal. The aim next Sunday is to get a Championship time to use at London next year, then go properly at that.
My plan was to get straight back on the fells big time after Manchester, b ut I don't think I'll do as much as I initially planned. I'm not a great short racer so some shorter road races will be done over summer to try and take a step forward.
I agree with that for the most part. It does take a lot out of the legs but given I'd never raced above a half marathon and hadn't tested running at, I thought it was a good idea to give it bash. If anything the confidence boost has helped and I've kind of adjusted my taper to allow recovery and training. It was 4 weeks out too so quite a decent gap between. Not sure I would feel the need to do a 20 again in a training block though.
Hope you’re going to running in pink tutu and leg warmers Tom
Blogs: a taste of Billy Bland's take on life: https://itsahill.wordpress.com/2018/...i-was-a-tryer/ and another chance to hear Billy talk about his training (and anything you want to ask him, in fact): https://itsahill.wordpress.com/2018/...h-billy-bland/
My latest blog entry. The odd pic. felly.

Ha ha ha last time i was at the NDG race you got lost😉
Wharfy might have an old colour camera for a primative Lancashire lad.🆓️
Good stuff Mark hope you are well and smiling mate.
Yeh, but I still made the checkpoints, even though Pavey Ark didn't have one.
Oh I'm still smiling and I am well thanks Trev. Hope to see you at BOFRA this year. What do you recon?
I've actually got a project on the go using old film cameras. Medium format and 35mm slide film and colour negative, with a few black and white thrown in too. My Dad offloaded a shed load of cameras onto me. It's been interesting messing about with them to be honest. Mainly manual 1950's & 1960's ones. Results vary.
PS - Lindsay Buck reminded me of that little NDG adventure at Grisedale Grind in the week. It was very claggy you know.

I've created a new blog at https://peatrunningwild.wordpress.com/
Please take a look and let me know what you think. I would welcome your feedback.
I'm aiming to add a new post every couple of weeks and it'll be a mixture of race descriptions, gear reviews and general thoughts on this great sport of ours.
So far I have articles on the following:
- Brontë Way fell race
- Burnsall Classic fell race
- Wet Underfoot - a return to autumnal weather
- The Yorkshireman Marathon
- Snowdonia Trail Marathon
- Celebrating the Solstice
- Running with a dog
Probably not the feedback you want, and yes, I might be missing out, but I do not read any blogs as I believe that the are written by people who are so arrogant that they think that everyone is interested in what they get up to in their lives. Not my cup of tea. No offence.
A lot of blogs I come across, usually via the Facebook page, are drivel. But some are excellent sources of information.
Tested To Destruction, by a Glossopdale Harrier, and I believe a forumite as well, is fantastic for getting a taste of races. If I'm ever researching an upcoming race, I obviously search on here first, but my next call is his blog pages.
Well-written with the right amount of humour. Although I prefer reading about those at the sharp end of races, I'm still always interested in others' views of various races. Keep it up!
Generally not a great reader of blogs but only as I have so little free time. I was interested in the running with dogs one as that is my usual companion on a lot of shorter runs. Whilst somewhat amusing it did throw up a couple of issues that others may feel the need to vermently object to so I would advise a little bit more judicious editing before posting.
Short blog piece about Colin Donnelly's running achievements, as a taster for the upcoming talk (next Tues) at the Buxton Adventure Festival - with a double bill of the amazing fell runners Colin Donnelly and Judith Jepson. Tickets available. https://itsahill.wordpress.com/2018/...dventure-fest/
