Todays permitted exercise!

13.92 miles, 4,635 feet, 5 hours 30 minutes: ODG - Stake Pass - Rossett Pike - Esk Hause shelter - Esk Pike - Bowfell - Crinkle Crags - Pike o'Blisco - ODG. Sunshine with some high clouds and the occasional bank of mist on some tops. A breeze from the south west. No rain. Terrain dry with good grip. Lots of walkers about, and lots of runners too - there was clearly an event on - there were some arrows labelled "ROC".

I really enjoyed my cold drink - water from the fridge - and a cold shower, once home.

13.58 miles, 3,918 feet, 4 hours 50 minutes: Travellers Rest - Butharlyp How - Helm Crag - Green Burn Bottonm - Calf Crag - Flour Gill - High Raise - Sergeant Man - Mere Beck - Calf Crag - Steel Fell - Travellers Rest. Overcast, with some patches of blue sky; cloud base above the high tops; hazy in the distance. A moderate most welcome breeze from the west. Terrain mainly dry with good grip. Quite a few walkers about; 3 fellow runners seen.

More and more of the paths are being blocked by bracken - grrrr!

11.4 miles, 2,044 feet, 3 hours 1 minute: Loughrigg trails from Rothay Bridge, taking in Fishgarths and Deerbolts Woods, Todd Crag, Lily and Loughrigg Tarns, High Close Arboretum, Grasmere Lakeshore and Loughrigg top. Sunny, with thin high clouds. No rain; a gentle breeze from the south. Terrain dry with good grip. Lots of walking groups about; 1 fellow runner seen.

The plan was to start early and to stay in the shade as much as possible - it was pretty comfortable most of the time.

Actually i was looking last night at going up the Fairfield Horseshoe a/cw route to Dove Crag instead, then dropping into Scandale - Red Screes. Seems around 8 miles which is a perfect slow runout before Old Crown Round.... and i don't think i've ever dropped into Scandale that way (have climbed out that way many times of course).

Doubt i'll be starting off before midday or 1 though, so i expect you'll be about finished before i start!

On days when I am not running, I usually go for a walk just before lunch. Due to the weather, I went straight after breakfast today. Route was approximately the reverse of my "Buck Hill and the Outwoods" running route, with some differences in the Outwoods. A fair amount of shade, and it was tolerable even out of the shade at 10am. I wouldn't want to be out there now (2pm).

10.26 miles, 1,573 feet, 2 hours 24 minutes: Rothay Bridge - Under Loughrigg - Pelter Bridge - Rydal Water - White Moss - Grasmere Lakeshore - Deerbolts Woods - High Close Arboretum - Loughrigg top - Miller Bridge - Rothay Bridge. Sunshine and thin high clouds, a few minutes of light rain. No wind. Terrain dry with good grip. Not many walkers about; 5 fellow runners seen, though only 1 was on the fell.

I started at 7.30 am to avoid the heat - it was certainly warming up when I finished.

10.32 miles, 2,654 feet, 3 hours 4 minutes: Wanfell Pike from 2 sides, including along the ridge to the true top. Overcast with a few minutes of sunshine; some of the high tops were encased in banks of cloud. A moderate most welcome breeze from the north west. No rain while I was out - it started just after I finished. Terrain dry with good grip. Not many walkers about; no other runners seen.

7.15 miles, 2,544 feet, 2 hours 50 minutes: NDG - Stickle Tarn - North Rake - Thunacar Knott - High Raise - Sergeant Man - Blea Rigg - Stickle Tarn - NDG. Overcast, with some of the high tops hidden by clouds. A refreshing breeze from the south. No rain. Terrain dry with good grip. Not many walkers about; 3 fellow runners seen.

Again I was swooped by a seagull at Stickle Tarn.

This morning I went for a dental check up for the first time since Covid - normally I go every 6 months. Luckily nothing of note was found. Given that I had recently been to a restaurant for my partner's birthday it made little sense to delay a dental check any longer.

14.66 miles, 4,177 feet, 4 hours 13 minutes: Rothay Bridge - Under Loughrigg - Pelter Bridge - Fairfield Horseshoe c/w to Dove Crag - Scandale - Red Screes - Golden Rule - Miller Bridge - Rothay Bridge. I went over the 3 tops on the way up, to the left on the Fairfield plateau, over the top of Hart Crag, and to the right of Dove Crag. Overcast, with the cloud base at about 1,500 feet at first, somewhat higher later. Intermittent drizzle/light rain. Virtually no wind. Terrain damp/wet - grip was reasonable apart from the rocks. Not many walkers about; I saw 8 other runners on the fells.
