Oh dear! Really enjoying my "long" run, tranquil trails, hazy sun, hoping for a PB - and THEN on the 8th and last mile tripped on the flat Wallside Path and BIT THE DUST! Never knew this literally happens. Came to with my front teeth embedded in the dirt. Grazed knees, forearms, upper lip, chipped front tooth. Nearly started running again in hopes of still making that PB, but sense prevailed. A bit embarrassed waiting for the bus - none of the other old ladies looked like William Brown on a bad day. But, God bless the English - everyone pretended not to notice. At home, insult to injury, wrote up my training diary and found out it was more or less a PW - just shows what a bad judge of pace I am. I blame the Spring weather.
grape juice got me again yesterday
club duathlon tonight. 6 mile bike, 3 run Pumped tyres of tt bike for first time this year and front tub split with age. So used fixed for 3rd ride ever and could only muster a 50/17, was pedalling on thin air most of the time, still pleased with my cycle time overall if a bit slower than usual and a rival beat me for the first time by 3 seconds.
Was not sure about fixed till tonight would be a great tt bike if adapted.
Cracking Club race tonight
5.2 miles 1300ft rough and fast. From Strines inn. Pushed really hard but felt good. lots of route choice. What fell running is all about.
43ish minutes I think, 23 runners
Saturday:
Short 3.75 mile / 900' "run" from end of the "back of Plynlimon" road at Llyn Nant y Moch up to summit of Banc Llechwedd-Mawr. Quite some river fording. Didn't expect two feet of fast flowing water, didn't stop to think about it so it was fine of course.
Sunday:
Early morning run along the beach then the cliffs from Ynyslas to the beautiful lonely bay at Wallog and return. 10.5 miles and 1,200' very easy at just over two hours. Really getting the hang of strong walking ascents on steeper ground. Simple really, although no-one has ever said it to me in as few words, but putting your heels down, even if you have to turn your feet sideways to do so, makes for much less strain on the calves.
Both in fabulous weather. Today it's been similar, but I went for an upper body workout and did some gardening!

Some miles to and from work yesterday. Some miles to work today
Hills start again next week :D
Wimped out of last night's club race and forced a three and a half mile recovery run in to loosen the legs in time for Herod Farm. Slow and poor but time to stop wallowing now...I think I also said that yesterday...
Tonight 8.5 miles with a bunny 2.5 speed session in between.
went to BritMilFit sesh and was running on empty from the word go - started off with some fast running and just had nothing in the tank after 400m. Bit embarrassing when you're wearing the Green ('elite') bib.
Can only think Saturday's run in the heat really took it out of me ... :(
Missed a few days due to being in London. i have to say change of scene did me good and really enjoyed running along the Thames from Wandsworth to The Millenium bridge mainly on the North side and returned all the way back on the South Side (approx 15 miles?). Reckon I saw more than any American Tourist 'doing' London in a day!
A quick test ride on the bike for 40 mins this morning and then a 7 miler on Pendle with 3 of The Tour climbs thrown in. Legs still had yesterday's ride in them so more a case of dragging myself round and over Pendle. Lovely afternoon, a few runners out as well as the usual smattering of walkers armed with carbon poles. Hope legs freshen up for the morning.
you out again in morning. missed you today
Feeling a bit crap with a cold but hadn't got out on Monday or yesterday, so put in 6.5 gentle miles (1:12) and a paltry 400' of ascent on trails around the village, including two trips up to the monument on Lilleshall Hill. Saw a big gaggle of runners (well, around 12, so 12 more than I usually see) on the Monument second time around (about quarter past seven). Newport & District Running Club??
Jim
Did some speed work on the track with club, 3x400 meters to warm up then flat out for 30 secs with jog back (8x200 meters) then 2x400 meters cool down. :)
Did the Lyke Wake Walk on Monday. Tried to pace it at something like Fellsman effort... which pretty much worked. It took me 9h10m for 40m/5000ft, which I know in terms of speed is quicker than I'll manage at the Fellsman, but I think my effort output was just about right. I was definitely tired at the end, but not dead on my feet. A few pics and a write-up on my blog in my signature.
Recce of the 3 Peaks yesterday. Having not done it before I was very surprised by the amount of rocky, man made tracks ! Not the most "runnable" course ! Don't think I'll be P.B-ing on the 24th ! Having said that, the weather was fantastic &, of course, the views amazing.
[Yesterday's]
10.2 miles 2,400 feet. 1 hour 30. Up Birchenough, then Shutlingsloe, then Wetstone ridge. Nice. I was testing myself with Kinder Downfall in mind. It felt OK.
It's amazing how dry it is. I had sore knees by the end of it, and should have worn by road shoes. I'm also amazed that there are still pockets of snow in the bits out of the sun.
The best bit was when I was descending off Shutlingsloe and one of the local kids (I think I know which one) surprised me by jumping up from the reeds saying "raaaaaaaah" completely covered in camouflage and army-type webbing stuff. I have to say I was quite impressed. :)
9.2 miles 1600 feet from the back door to West Nab, (probably the most northern 500 metre hill in the peak) and back again. A nice loosener after the 4 county tops on Tuesday.
LSD run, 16.4 miles 5130ft from Littondale to Kettlewell then up to Cam Pasture back down to Starbotton up to the Fox's Cross along to Buckden Pike then down to Buckden along the Dalesway and at last over Moor End Fell back to Arncliffe and now I am tired, but what a magnificent day, sunshine all the way and the views, this is what it's all about.

13.3 miles, 2450 ft climbing in 2:31. Super hop up Chew Valley from Dovestones to Chew, across Laddow Moss to Black Chew Head. Down to the PW & , yes, up to Black Hill, down to Wessenden Head. A quick ship up West Nab to see the moor fires which have been burning for four hours now. Down Meltham Moor & Oldfield springs, along the water courses and home to Slawit.

2.5kms inner-city road race (700-runner obstacle course Vienna). Friend spotted me on the tele! Got to the finish tape just behind celebrity runner and flung my arms in the air like a winner. Entry fee was €15 so there was a €10,000 cheque for the Pink Ribbon Cancer Charity Appeal handed over at the end of it all.
Today's training:
bike/TV

12 miles on the roads this morning using the Cheshire loop line near Speke up to the Rocket and back towards Sefton Park. I had hoped to do 17 miles today but after being under the weather for most of the week cut is short. Lovely foggy morning to start then bright sunshine.
Storiths - long way round to Simon's Seat - Valley of Desolation - Storiths.
1.45 in total.
A bit chilly but only 1 layer required.
No rain whilst running and ground still wonderfully dry.
Buffers shut though on Mondays. :(
Ran to work today :D ... well 4 miles out of the total 132 miles anyway
Forgot to bring a bra with my clean work clothes again though :o:o
Ran 13-14kms of woodland trails (1hr 40min) with Mick Jagger [an even bigger bang] and bagged an Austrian alp outside Vienna. The 'Sophienalpe' summit is a large plateau, the highest point being Exelberg. It is 516mtrs above sea level. Nearby there's a pub, a radio mast and a car park.
