4.25 miles 500ft?

sub 27 next time with a decent rest I hope
20 min slow
30 min Fartlek
15 min slow
comprising a mini 3-peaks run in Vienna Woods: Michaeler Berg (387m), Hameau (464m), Schafberg (390m).
12kms with 350mtrs +/-
50mins or so in hotel gym. Usual mix of treadmill (max ramp), stepper and bike (a recumbent number ). Enjoyed it in a strange perverse kind of way :o
In the woods round Harlow Carr for 6.5 miles. Must be the volcanic ash, because I ran a PB by 40 secs, either that or the ground is dry.
Was that a forumite purple camper van I saw on Penny Pot Lane? If not, there's a bemused VW owner round here wondering who the inanely waving runner is.
Penny Pot Lane - now that brings back some memories from the late 80's ....
Anyway todays training..
A quick 5 miles - very boring and not special or interesting.
Kris Akabusi ran there as a fresh-faced 16 year old in the 70s. Complete re-build in recent years, the triangular church and everything else has gone. R Signals?
9.3 miles/1hr 30mins in the hills around n about Osmotherley. My first 'club' training session....OUCH!
If those 3 triangular churches have gone it is a shame - they were quite nice on the inside. I am going to have a quick look on google for an overhead of the site. Im sure I will find it quite sad :( - Yep - R Sigs (still am) :) Next time Im around the area I will have to drive by.
Todays run was:
Distance - 13.2 miles
Time - 1.36.48
Elevation gain - approx 1300 ft
Terrain - 1/2 forest / farm track and 1/2 road
Weather - Warm and very close
6.6 with the club social run. Was going to run harder on own but very tired, too much resting for peaks.
Also missed first time trial of year tonight, forgot it was on (though need new tubs on tt bike) and saw my main peaks running and cross rival heading out to it - bugger.
Felt too lazy to do the club race tonight, so ordered a pizza hut... which led to feeling stuffed and in need of a run, so went out for 10k up Stanage Edge, along the top watching the sunset then down to redmires reservoir. Turned out to be an excellent run, except for putting my foot in a hidden hole full of stenchy water. Took 1hr5min.
The 'mountain top' of Hermannskogel (542mtr) boasts a 27mtr observation tower built in 1888 by the Austrian Tourist Club. It also has the distinction of being the highest hill within the Vienna city boundaries. It was my training target today.
There are several ways up and down the 'kogel'. I chose a circular route with a mixture of forest trails, meadows and public footpaths; a route which took in some of the lower 'peaks' such as Dreimarkstein, where there is a coin-in-the-slot telescope for those who wish to view the city's landmarks from the 'Häuserl am Roan' pub car park.
Approx. 1hr 40mins for 14 kms with 600mtr +/-
(deceptively sunny! cool breeze on my back after the turn; after 12kms had to go much slower and stretch out the backs of thighs to avoid injury)
Sounds a pleasant route Woodlander.
Hi Addy in Accy, (#9022)
the Vienna Woods is big, perhaps 50km x 40km, and as you can imagine it's a great place to train. There are said to be 9,000kms of waymarked woodland paths (which inlcudes 5,000km of trails which are used by mountain bikers as well as runners). The great thing about running these woodland trails is that a wayside tavern, vital for thirst quenching ales or wine spritzers, or carbo-loading schnitzels and chips, or even a bowl of hot soup or maybe just a cup of coffee and a slice of apple strudel is never far away. :D
A gentle 4 up Blackhill from Wessenden Head via Black Dyke Head & back down again. Big fires on the northern horizon. Rishworth perhaps? The third fire in three weeks, looks like an arsonist is at work.
Wednesday - Gentle club 5 miles, 600ft
Thursday - Hard 8.6 miles, 900ft up and down the Porter Valley
Tonight - short leg loosener in advance of Kinder Downfall on Sunday
No training today, just filling my face before the 3 Peaks.
Will tinker with the MGB this afternoon. If you see a frustrated blue MGB driver tomorrow, please give me a lift.
45mins in hotel gym on stepper, treadmill, recumbent bike and elliptical trainer followed by 80squats. Looking forward to a proper run out next week
A puzzling Calder Valley Round in 3:21. Puzzling because I couldn't nav my way from Gibson to Staups mill sensibly and consequently my round had 400 feet of extra ascent!
The Austrian village of Gumpoldskirchen (260mtrs) is situated on the main north-south railway line, approximately 20 kms south of Vienna. Behind the surrounding vineyards and the narrow streets of baroque houses there is an impressive area of decidious woodland and a large limestone hill called the Anninger which rises to 675mtrs.
Today was sunny and warm and Gumpoldskirchen seemed an ideal early season venue for an early season training run. There are 5 waymarked routes of varying difficulty to/from the village. I chose a route based on the 'Klinger Runde', a 10.60km trail with 380mtrs hd. Generously, I allowed myself 1hr 40mins. More than ample.:o
The waymarked path was not 100% idiot-proof despite the many strategically placed fingerposts and I had to consult the Tourist Information Office's map 3 or 4 times en-route. At a couple of woodland taverns groups of mountain bikers were sitting outside and refreshing themselves.
At the summit I was joined by another runner, also new to the area, and we consulted the map. There followed next a quite steep descent down a tricky and narrow path, repeatedly going along one side then the other a narrow stream (almost a waterfall); wet limestone rocks and old sticks hidden in piles of leaf mulch waited for the unwary and inattentive. This time we passed by safely.
My first training venture on the slopes of the Anninger. Exploring new paths is a great delight. I can't wait to go back.
Hi Derby Tup,
Will do!
I have an old mountain bike tucked away in Salzkammergut (Austrian Lake District). I try to get there when I can. Lovely part of the world.
Watched the Hamburg Marathon on NDR.
Went for a solid medium paced run.
Got back in time to see the finish of the London Marathon on Eurosport.
Parkland and woodland trails - approx. 12 kms with 300mtrs +/-
62 mins.
45mins in gym again this morning. I'm starting to enjoy it in an almost perverted way :o
It is important to incorporate exercise into our daily routine. This is necessary to maintain cardiovascular health and maintain muscle mass.
If you're over 40, you might want to take it easy at first, then do more repetitions as you become more proficient and build stamina. Warning: It may be too strenuous for some.
Always consult your doctor before starting any exercise program!
SCROLL DOWN.......
NOW SCROLL UP..
That's enough for the first day. Great job.
Have a glass of wine.
A tough weekend running but successful
Saturday The 3 peaks at Race Pace
Sunday Ditto Kinder Downfall...
PB's in Both
Very Happy
Saturday.Nantmor to Foel Gron then to Snowdon Ranger.managed that first leg in 3 hours 27 mins despite it still taking 30 mins to get off Y Garn. then on to Sbowdon in 2:3 mins. All in all successful despite searing heat.
Very impressed, I was gong to do a 25 mile fixie ride this am, that got moved to pm that got changed to using a geared bike for a short ride that became I'm to knackered to do anything. Am totally shagged today think I got round despite my training rather than because of it
even after just ten days' not running, feel like I'm losing fitness fast
need to get a couple of 20-24 milers in before Duddon - argh!
military fitness tonight hopefully ....
yeah unlucky mate, I read about your tumble, sounded like it smarted a bit
no I didn't and I'm still fuming, especially having seen the pics. Had quite a deep blister on my big toe joint that beame infected and the doc put the frighteners on me by saying it could go into the bone if I ran before it was fully healed.
It was literally a case of a day or two more - it's pretty much healed now. Might well have been alright anyway, but when the doc says 'you could lose a toe', it's not so easy to ignore.
I don't get to many races so missing one always feels like a mini-tragedy to me, and it'll certainly mean I'm less fit for Duddon and Ennerdale.
