90 minutes on Ilkley Moor. Beautiful evening.
My last couple of ventures out:
Sat morning's hill sesh up Pendle (6.4mi, 2,300ft)

Yesterday's club run with Clayton's medium group
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/33831015
Would love to say it feels great to be back out there, but my thighs tell me different!!!
(Seriously though, what a great feeling :D)
Up early tomorrow for a quick 4 miler before work.
Accidental 2 hour session on Kinder tonight - went out for a short run (probably up and down Crookstone Knoll) to break in my new mudclaw 270s and take the dog out.... Was such a lovely night than I ended up going round the edge, dropping to below Ringing Roger, up to the top of RR, across to Golden Clough hunting for water for the dog.... Nothing there.... Across to the trig, and then down via crookstone barn, about 9 miles, 2300'.
Kinder is astoundingly dry, good layer of dust on top of the peat, and next to no water in any of the cloughs - could see some in Blackden and Grindsbook Cloughs, but nothing much firther East of those.
Pretty sore on the back of my heels though - nice long thin blister where the top of the heel cup is... Time for a bit of steam I think. Otherwise excellent shoes.
Due to being woken up early by the pesky crows outside my window a quick early session was called for to get rid of some of my anger!
Distance - 7 miles
Time - 54:32
Elevation gain - approx 1300ft
Steady run but suffering from a slight knee niggle following the Fellsman still.
Ran round as sweeper at the Kildwick race last night after helping out with the juniors. I've missed racing this spring and really enjoyed catching up with folk. A splendid evening :D
good BMF sesion last night - for the first time in weeks I felt like I had loads in the legs and the lungs, right to the end
but full-speed recce of Duddon this weekend will be the real test of where I'm at
Out at 0420 for an amazing, fantastic very hilly 30 on the road bike.
-the feeling when a large deer bounds across the quiet road in front of me
-the morning chorus with Chaffinch, Willow Warbler and Songthrush competing for best AM song
-the warmth in places of the heat coming off the high moorland
-the very few cars, two in 30 minutes!
-the views of the mist in the valleys way below
-the coolness on my skin of said mist when I dropped back down in it
-the song of the skylark and curlew on my local moorland road
-the feeling of the heat from the sun on my legs and face
Back for 0630, job done, two major moorland road climbed, 2h10, hardly any traffic and a wonderful ride......an English Spring morning, does it get any better?
c 20miles and 6000ft around Littondale and upper Wharfedale. Saw two people on the hill all evening. Think Clive would have enjoyed it
Absolutely ZILCH.....had the week off!
too hot - cowering under a stone !!
First run in 4 weeks after bustin' two toes....Felt great to be floating over that dry springy peat :-)
Managed an hour, Beautiful out & up there.
A very easy 8 miles mostly on tracks over and around Hazlewood Moor/Barden Fell from Storiths, very warm but bearable with slight breeze and regular hydration. Saw only 2 lone walkers during the first 70mins of the run then as soon as I hit the Bolton Abbey riverside paths for the last 15mins the peace & solitude was well and truly shattered.
Choc Ice Cream at Buffers at end of run:D
Steady 12 miles over Ilkley Moors this morning. Very hot & could have done with more SIS (schoolboy error methinks). Resisted the temptation to stop at Dick Hudsons for a couple of pints though, so bonus points there. Caught up with 4 runners from Accrington doing a recce of the last leg of the Bradford Millenium Way Relay Race. All finished off with a water fight with the children in the garden.
Nice, gentle run on Kinder this morning. Up blackden clough, around the edge for a bit and then across to the downfall. Back to kinder gates and then ran on a bearing across the plateau to seal stones. Hugely hot on top - possibly even hotter than in Sheffield. Only water was in blackden clough, but I expected this so drank about a litre on the way up, and carried plenty for the top. Feeling a bit overheated now, but a good run anyway. About 9 miles, 1600 feet.
had a bug for 10 days or so part of last week and the week before but coming round now.
monday 17th - 15 mile hilly fixed bike - first exercise for 3 days cos of illness - tired but ok
tues - 8 miles off road club run - felt crap and struggled
wed - kildwick fell race then 10 miles on bike. Strong first part of race then faded badly.
thurs - 7 miles club run - feeling a bit better.
sat - 85 miles bike - rubbish on flat , strong on hills
sun - 10 miles run, slow start good finish - health appears back to normal.
Planned to do club duathlon tonight but brother turned up unexpectedly yesterday pm so had a pint or 2, feeling a bit fragile this am.
A couple of hours on Saturday from Kettlewell over Great Whernside and Buckden Pike. Scorchio! Hard work in the sun, but worth it for the joy of dunking my feet in the Wharfe at the end.
Hats off to anyone doing big miles over the weekend... PBR, BGR, OCT and any other acronyms!
I don't post here much, but thought I would start sharing my training - such that it is.
Sat's run - reccying the Ogwen to Pen y Pass section of the Welsh 1000m route. Aiming to do the short race in two weeks. Was in the evening and hot and hard work. But beautiful.
Walked with the family on Sun - went up Y gribin but didn't get far as my 8 year old was really tired.
did club duathlon tonight - worst cycle result ever 5th, was using fixed, extremely hung over and have done very little lately on bike but ride felt ok regardless so am still smarting at being so soundly thrashed. However bizzarely (what happened to spell check) I was second fastest runner and came 2nd overall beating several people who I normally beat on the ride but not the run. Go figure.
a two-hour run from Duddon Valler up Walna Scar to Brown Pike, Dow Crag, down the hawse and up the Old Man, back down to the hawse, down to Goats Tarn and back on to Walna Scar to Duddon.
The stretch of Walna Scar between Goats Tarn and the saddle where you turn off up to Brown Pike or left to Duddon is bloody murder - in 20 degrees it is anyway - never quite steep enough not to run ...
Went out on Saturday from Dovestones res, Saddleworth with mates to visit four of the S'worth Trigs; Alpin Pike, Featherbed Moss, Black Hill and Broadstone. Went back via Alderman hill and then jumped in the reser (not from the top o the hill tho). Hottest day I would ever wanna run 16.3 miles about 2100 feet.
Went up to coniston and ran the Coniston fell race, got lost a few times though. Ended up being 11mile, 4100ft. Also think i saw a very famous runner.
Delayed entry for yesterday -

last night 25th

Wed - 10km (inc. 7.5km recce Monday's race)
Thu - 10km (inc. -ditto-)
Fri - 90 mins swim/aquajog etc. (Bad idea. Did too much stretching & got a mild groin strain) :(
Sat - 2 hrs steady away on bike, country lanes (trying to ease out yesterday's injury)
Sun - 3km jog
Mon - Pfandler Dam Race (AUT) overall 86/143 (5th M60) - only 4 1/2 mins covering the first 5 M60's, without the injury probably could have got 3rd instead of 5th
Tue - 15km 'recovery' jog.
First run for a bit and my first off road for years. A quick run up to Mosedale caverns and back from Coistone out for about 50mins.
6 miles.
870ft ascent.
New fell shoes on too, never worn this type of footwear before mostly pleased with em.
Unbelievably slow 10km muddy jog with my 70-year old friend. Groin strain still niggling away. And to think this year I was finally tempted by Man v.Horse. Now it'll need a miracle if I'm to go to Llantrwyd Wells...
Belated entry for yesterday -
Distance - 9.1 miles
Time - 1:09:45
Elevation - approx 1200 ft
Weather - hot
Surface - Mixed track / road
200 squats straight after
Knee niggle still there but not until around 6 miles so its getting better :o
last night
11 miles club run including running there and back.
8 x 750ft hill reps, about 11 mins each (up and down)
felt absolutely brilliant and was going to do 10 or 12 in prep for Duddon, but had to give up cos didn't want to aggravate sore achilles
5k parkrun - new pb of 19:54. Not sure how this helps going up and down mountains but I'm happy!
14.4 from Binn Green Car Park, round Dovestones, up to Chew, along the PW to Balck Hill & Back. 2360 feet up and down in 2:51. A bit wet.
Three short runs mid week, Wednesday being the Vanessa Chappell race - wot a fab venue in the moorside Grange hotel.
Today well hung over and missed my mate at 7am. went out at 8 from Snake Pass onto Bleaklow Head, BL Stones and back via The Swamp. ~7 miles 700ft. Really cold at the start, put on everything I was carrying!
A smashing 21.4 up & around Bleaklow & Black Hill with Mick. 4170 up & down in 5:22. Nice to see Spookster on Laddow rocks, training for his BGR.
Five days in Scotland where it snowed, had thick clag, rained, sleet and a baking sun A typical Scottish Summer
The result
19 munros
35,300ft of ascent
94 miles
a proper big hill session
Can I say that if you've never been to Scotland or never been north of Spean Bridge you are missing some of the most stunning scenery any where in the world.
