Mens winner Preston, Ladies winner and runner up Preston, Ladies winner Burnley and Mens winner Heaton Park suggest my group quite like them.
I must say, I enjoyed it :)
OMG WP, like Danbert I am flabergasted. But really wonderful wonderful news. Oh how conventionally unconventional can you be Sir!
That means you're well and truly knighted (initiated into Parkrun fellowship) and will be able to come (with BBH posse?) to my 100th Parkrun at Marple on 16th Feb, maybe followed by a fell run (10-12noon + scran) and a XC (Boggart Hole ~2pm)?!
I just did my 99th Parkrun today (5km), followed by XC at Leigh SELancs (10k) with a Gloss posse, as warmup for 16th Feb.
TimothyDaltonMyArse was on form today - he's 40 in the week of Saturday 16th Feb. Hence the plan coincident with my 100th Parlrun.
PS. Definitely still had last weekend's Trigger in my legs but a gel popped just before the XC start kicked-in during lap 2 to restore my dignity (rightful position) in lap 3.
Re: Are Park Runs Destructive
I might well be at a Parkrun on the 16th as it's my next free Saturday. But it won't be Marple sorry OB1 if I do one - likely Preston again or Burnley.

I have a "flock" to look after OB1 and if I said to them that they had to be in Marple for a Park Run at 9:00am.... well you can guess. At least my race starts at a civilised time.

It will be the 100th anniversary of the South-East Lancashire Cross-Country League in 2013.
The league was formed in September 1913 at the instigation of Messrs. W.Wilkinson and J.W.Bennett of the North Manchester Harriers Club.
The opening run was November 1st 1913 at Bolton Road, Radcliffe when seven clubs competed:-
Radcliffe, Bury, Rochdale, Heywood, Middleton, Royton and North Manchester.
Royton Harriers won the league team competition in the 1913-14 season and J.T.Toliday from North Manchester Harriers was the over-all individual winner.
Are there any special events planned for the centenary? I have a copy of the history of this League written in 1930.
Is there any truth in the rumour that Danbert Nocurry ran in this first event!:w00t:

I definitely feel like I might have done these days XCRunner.
The league have had commemorative T shirts printed to mark the 100 years.

I fully understand and sympathise WP. You are a bit constrained with such a large thoroughbred flock, almost a commercial shepherd.
My flock is very small and part of a self-contained smallholding.
The beauty of the Parkrun start time is that once or twice a year you can have a 'local blowout' and feast on an early morning Parkrun, followed by a mid-morning fell race/run and an even an afternoon XC. And when it coincides with a friends 40th birthday its too hard to resist.
The beauty of your local Parkrun (Preston/Burnley for you, Marple/Woodbank/Oldham etc for me) on most Saturdays is that one can run it at whatever pace and still be back home for 10.00 in time to look after ones flock. In my case, take my flock to 10:30 football, sledging in the fields, swimming, etc. Priceless, literally, except for petrol/pedal-power. I do kinda think you have come around to this 'constructive' side of Parkrun?!
Enjoy you outings till we eventually get to meet.

Admittedly this thread is six years old and the continued co-existence of parkrun and local 5k/10k events (and indeed their blossoming!) shows the answer.
Jah man! Which PR do you and your 7-member flock frequent then?

I thought I saw you and your flock before 9:00am at Woodbank Parkrun quite recently Richard. Marple Parkrun is only a couple of miles away!;)

Good man Swoop. That's you committed to 16th Feb Marple Parkrun (and maybe some more antics outside the park) with a large contingent from this neck of the woods.
Marple was 'spikes' terrain yesterday.
Further details to follow, by PM etc.
