Plumbum hasn't closed entries yet so you should be in. If you feel that your entry may have been held up due to the Posties send him a PM telling him you've sent it off and I'm sure he'll hold a place for you.
He's abit busy at the moment. He's about to take over the running of a drinking establishment.:D

Re: Tanky's Trog 2009 is on!!
Lots of dilemarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrs on this route at Crowden:o.
For newbies to the race it really is one of those epics.
Reaps Farm and up the Pennine?
Find the path and up the clough?
Up to Lawrence Edge?
What point to head for Hern Stones
Follow a Dark Peaker ?
Follow a Glossopdaler
Follow a Bog Snorkler
Theres enough for everyone:)
Expect loads of BOG

Bleaklow is indeed very wet
Ian have yo done the direct route from Lawrence Edge to Bleaklow Head ??
Have you made a secret trod
:)

Re: Tanky's Trog 2009 is on!!
so would I be right in thinking this is 21 miles of running through a hilly bog?
-
Re: Tanky's Trog 2009 is on!!
Marsden Edale is one of the classic Peak bogtrots  There's some decent running in patches and one or two good climbs too. My advice: don't wear your best white socks ;)

No secret trod I'm afraid. Not even been up there this year yet
I've tried it and am not convinced the direct is the quickest. Shortest yes. but you spend a mile higher over rougher terrain than the Torside route so if the weather is bad you're up there for a long time, also harder to navigate with low clag. Matt (last years winner) thought it was too rough.
we reckon a few locals will go that way but the majority will still take one of the Torside routes

There's a nice fence there now though! Definately rough going over from the clough up to the Head in parts but some isn't so bad and the running didn't differ so much from all the wet peat hags over the other side...a bog's a bog I guess but it all depends on having the conviction to believe it's a quicker way?

Re: Tanky's Trog 2009 is on!!
Ive gone up Lawrence Edge a few times and then turned right to pick up the trod over to the top of wildboar clough and then like emmi says you can follow the fence all the way up to bleaklow head.
Last year I followed the Pennine Way in the snow and it seemed okay to me. But there is def a faster route if you veer off clough edge and find that trod all the way to Hern Stones. But its not an easy trod to find although if you know who knows were it is your okay but if you know that the person who your following knows that you know that your onto them they know this and may knowlingly take you on a runaround.

y'know i Know what you mean;) I think
I think you are talking the turn off before the castle. this can be tricky. I go earlier and follow a deep grough, that way no body can see you and you're hard to follow, y'know

don't be silly:o, plenty of water on route, and probably plenty coming from the sky. also there will be supporters on route that you can hand a few bottles to.
Water at -Dean clough-Crowden little brook-lots of small streams coming off Torside-'possibly' Hern clough-Upper North Grain- and Fairbrook

There are three from DCRO - does that count, or does our affinity with mud disqualify us??

Get Rick Lewthwaite to make the 4th. If he has the same success as in a canoe we, Woodhead Team, should have something to do. :D

 - I've just been reminded that we already have FOUR team members of DCRO running, so we won't need to use Rick's exceptional skills. PHEW!!

It's ok, Daz, they have to pay his wages when he's out on loan. Saves Pennine a fortune!

Splendid, thank you Doc - I've been a bit unclear on route choices.
Not quite sure how I'll plot that on to my OS though ...
