Personally I wouldn't let a football club anywhere near it. I'd open it up as a training facility for local clubs to use.

When you consider the options for major events to be hosted there, I'm sure it can generate some revenue. If it loses a little, so what. Iconic Facilities like this should not have to or be expected to turn a profit.

I'm with you on that. They sold this as these games as having an Olympic legacy, we need these facilities, not just the athletics arena, but the pool hockey courts etc.
We've shown this last week there's more to life than football, and we're not bad at either, we just need people to get involved.
I'd like to sign off by saying it would be nice to have diamond league athletics at a world class venue, rather than Crystal Palace, which if we're being honest isn't world class, or nice to look at. So what we need is a bit of investment, or at least try and maintain what we've got.

I agree, the stadium should remain for athletics not football. having spent some time working there (providing sports massage for the athletes!!) I can honestly say it is truly an inspirational venue which should be available for all athletes to use during training and competition.

Without a profit, the legacy is assumed to be 'worthless'. I agree on not letting the stadium go to football but it is a question of economics, sad but true. I was pleased though that the warm up 50m pool is being moved to Duchy College near Plymouth, an excellent college and fully deserving. A good example of the legacy!!

I hope the cameras weren't too intrusive for the runners in the women's marathon but they gave you a better idea of the speed they are going than I have noticed before in a televised marathon. The running actions were interesting as well with 1st and 3rd having forefoot strike and second having heel strike first. Petrova's running technique looked particularly impressive. Tough luck for Mara Yamauchi but she obviously knew the risks and it must be hard to sit out an event that comes every 4 years that you might not get another chance at.

Without slow motion of appropriate definition it can be hard to work out which bit of their feet people land on - the pictures were very clear today. We had two of the Rwandan runners at our local track recently - to the naked eye it looked like they were forefoot striking but photos showed they weren't.

Interesting that most of the African girls hold their arms up near their chests, and together with this they rotate their upper torsos more.

That is good news, I think there was a stat floated around at the beginning of the swimming events, that there were more 50m pools in Paris than the whole of the UK.

If it was a question of economics, we wouldn't have an athletics track in the country, what's more, we wouldn't have a football pitch or astro-turf, swimming pool......
None of them make money.

Organised sport will always need subsidy - even the simple fell race relies on volunteers to give up time free which is a form of subsidy.

So I would like to see the state, having built the stadium, support it and keep it as a National Stadium but seek to gain reasonable revenue from it.

Why is Team GB doing so well? The participants say the crowd support really helps, but that is just noise and how do they know who they are cheering for - though I guess they can assume most of the crowd is cheering for them. I think the real reason is simply being at home - no jet lag/strange food/"foreign" bugs/touristy distractions/unfamiliar weather - plus the presence of the usual support mechanisms: family/friends/coaches. Whatever it is, it is working.
