Does anybody know if any kit was handed in? One of our Harrier Ladies had her brown North Face jacket 'misplaced'

Great event. After Marshalling the relays at Chipping 2 years ago it was good to be in a team and get out and run. Have to admit to watching the clag coming down throughout the day was starting to slightly worry about my inability to navigate but it's amazing how much you don't realise you know until you have to put it into practice! The bearings rubbed off my hand in the rain though and I am still pulling bits of forest out of my leg! :rolleyes:

I was on leg 4 and in the mini mass start and thought it was a great route, the steep bit up in the forest was a bit of a shock :eek: enjoyable all the same. Had the thick clag and no-one to follow so the grey cells were put to the test and the checkpoints located - I had to pinch myself :rolleyes:

Thanks to all at CFR for a stirling job and after being on the other side know just how long a day and stressful it can be. Well done all.

As Welshharrier says about Tim flying down the last descent needing a parachute, that was really something special to watch, worth the entrance fee alone.

It will be quite a short video! Tim's time from last checkpoint to finish was 1 min 17 sec compared with Ben B in 1:38 and Rob H in 1:35. Matt Speake nearest at 1:19.

I was fairly happy with our overall time but now I've seen the splits I can see how much time we lost on CP3 to 4. Probably around 8 minutes!!! Sorry team:o. I think I need a bigger compass that shouts at me.

Did anyone go direct, down and up to CP4 or did everyone follow the Blake Fell ridge with varying amounts of contouring on the east slope?

Ok, here's a slightly controversial entry. I don't want anyone to take this to heart as we had a great day out and enjoyed the challenging nav conditions - but as a runner on leg 3 who made a complete bollock of it, how did the rest of you plan dib 3 to 4?

We contoured round to the left, knowing that there wasn't going to be much of a clue as to where the right turn was to the final edge to the cairn with next to no visibility. We ran past a suspiciously looking christmas tree growing to the left of the path. I looked and though heyup, that looks out of place... but ran on regardless. Lost a lot of time there!

Anyone else notice that tree... was it growing? It looked like a healthy tree, but if I didn't have a life I'd run back there now to see if it is.

Mind you, as nobody knew the route nobody could have put a marker in anyway - so ignore me. If it were a plant(sorry), then I do have some admiration.

Regardless, we all had a great day out, and thanks to everyone for the slick organisation, and the bean stew. Looking forward to next year.

Don't worry, it was there. I saw it too. I think there was another somewhere along that ridge. I think they were healthy growing trees but didn't stop to check!.

I was more surprised when I found the Xmas trees growing at the high point of the central Kinder Plateau when up there on Boxing Day. Can't imagine that they arrived there by accident. Probably Luv Shack tomfoollery.

Hi Leechy - NW out of 3 under the crags, contoured W across the grot until we hit the fence and a trod line along it, then as per my earlier posting(#147,ignore the reference to 4-5, typo).

Incidentally I was given a thuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurah kit check but was still surprised that someone in the changing area asked me how to use a compass and what requirements were needed on the day.:eek:
It amazes me that some people come along to the relays and just assume that if they have the neccesary equipment they will be okay.
The conditions in places late on in Leg 4 would have tested people who are not used to bad weather.
I have not the answer but surely by not being competent they are endangering themselves. I think there should be a certain criteria when you enter a team.
I know anyone can get lost in bad weather(langdale):eek: but its how you get yourself out of the situation that matters

any thoughts on team criteria and safety

Daz, that is surely down to team/club captains choosing fast runners rather than competent fellsmen
