3 mile off road with Ernie. Just a recovery to ease the legs after yesterdays Bofra race.
Pleasent evening weather wise with soft going under foot in most places.
A stiff little 5 mile race last night with steep rough climbs and fast tracks from Cut throat bridge.
Joined by Grimmer, Greenflash, and a couple of other forumites in a 18 strong field.
Guinea pig at Leeds Met Uni. today. 3 min efforts, going up 1 kph after every one. Followed by a pin prick & blood sample before the next one ! Then a 5 min break before running at 15 kph on incline 1, with the incline increasing by 1 every minute & running to exhaustion. Track session tomorrow. Apparently I'll get a detailed analysis of my fitness level. Vo2 Max, lactic threshold etc. My resting heart rate was 42 at the start. Looking forward to the results.
6 x 150ft hill reps. Not cold out there this evening :closed:
Same race as Ian yesterday (but a few minutes slower, and feeling like crap)
Game of football tonight with other staff at school, ended up being a pretty tough workout as 8 players pulled out leaving us playing 7 a side on a full pitch.
Feeling battered now as I started both of them with a sore and blackened ankle/thigh/toes from a mountain bike crash on Friday.
Still better than doing nowt though!
I did something similar at Hallam - A vo2max (came in just under 60) followed by a 5km treadmill time-trial, with 2x 5km timetrials and some sprint tests in the following weeks, all with blood lactate tests. Hated running on the treadmill and was way off my parkrun 5km best - set on a 'hilly' Endcliffe park course - as I couldn't pace myself with no references!
Been off training with a cold for the last 2 days after the weekend's exertions (Harvester Day/Night relays), although I was a bit busy graduating today

Had a good few days camping At Wasdale
Saturday 10 miles 6300ft
Sunday 9 miles 3800ft
Monday 5 miles 3000ft
Tuesday 10 miles 5500ft
Jogged 1.1 miles this morning. It may not have been far, It may have taken 10 minutes and I may have looked more like a jogger than a runner but things are looking up again.
Slightly shorter trip around the Long Mynd this morning, trying to reduce for next saturdays thunderun.
13 miles 5000ft today taking this week to 47 miles 23600ft now for a rest!!!!!!!!!!!
I am embarrassed to mention yesterdays run. 11 miles and 5554ft of climbing in Snowdonia. I must admit I am jealous of both andy gib and splatcher.
Yes, but it'll be nothing for the next 3 weeks for me. I'm backpacking coast to coast with the family.
You and me both. I am on a cruise round the Baltic for 12 nights from Friday. I will try my best to get a run in when we are in port but none of the cities have hills near the port.
I was happy with my 6.5 miles / 3400 ft ascent until I started reading this thread! It was over Crib Goch though so not the easiest terrain...
Quick 20mins on the Crosstrainer tonight. Found it pretty hard work actually after yesterdays race. Quads were burning.
I really need to get more steep hill work in
great little race tonight over some horrific terrain.:)
a few forumites out, even took in the 2 trigs of the "Streak in the Peak" some very interesting route choices.....
Last nights training was a flat out 20 min run around the canal and footpaths followed by chest, back and legs at the gym. Quads were tender from Saturdays exploits.
Were you over Crib Goch on Saturday or Sunday?
A feeble 4 miles along the canal at lunchtime. Initiated rapid bowel movement due to 2 boiled eggs this morning. Way too hot to be running.
10 miles from burley in wharfedale train station up onto ilkley moor and round the countryside down to the river wharfe and back. Good fun for a change
A steady 3mile with Ernie (the dog) just to run the soreness from Ambleside yesterday out of my muscles.
8.5 miles from Barden bridge up to Simon's seat, starting up the Wharfe towards Appletreewick and ascending through Howgill. Cracking day for it, had a good run up until the waterfall on the way back where a stone gave way beneath me and resulted in a fall and another badly sprained ankle. Last two miles back to the car were a bit testing....
Sorry to hear that Rob.
12.4 today over Burley & Ilkley Moor. Taking in Rombalds Moor & Addingham Moorside. I love running in the heat !
Character building
 "Character building", well that's the way to look at it! Hope your ankle heals nice and quick.
Get this, get this, I ran up a hill today :w00t: Just one, clearly :closed:
Saturday: Train from Clapham Junction out to Box Hill to do hill reps. Up the steps to the trig point, down the steep 'front' for a short while then back up and down.
10 reps with a five-minute rest after the 5th.
About 8,000ft of climbing, maybe 12km in distance.
2h15m it took me. And yes, it did hurt.
Sunday: rode the bike out to Box Hill did 3 reps of the zig-zag road and back to Battersea. 50 miles, three hours or so.
Fed up of the bloody sight of Box Hill now.
Hill reps with dog, just 3.5m/1000ft.
grasmere guides route wed nite then through grasmere up helm crag n round, lovely sunset!
the problem of saying, I'm running to the top of that hill is the hills are a bit big round here and tend to go straight up!
distance approx 4 miles up and down (quite a few zig-zags) but direct is less than 1.5 miles ascent 3820ft return by same route to Pointe de Ressachaux 1.37 for the round trip
and after a quick Google it would seem Alan Lucker has been there as well http://alanlucker.blogspot.com/2011/...essachaux.html
3 Shires route this morning, (13m 4000ft) still as a mill pond and not a drop of rain. What are the chances?
I was on a 24hr bender yesterday, completely wasted, so didnt rise until 5pm this afternoon, after having some beans and fish fingers and a cup of coffee, I went out at 8pm, and loaded to the max with yesterdays carb intake from countless jagerbombs/vodka cokes etc I felt amazingly strong, like I could run like the wind forever, as effortlessly as riding a bike downhill, I just ran and ran and kept getting faster, got round my 11mile route in 1hr5mins without so much as a bat of an eyelid :-)))
Ran up Loughrigg on Saturday evening. Gorgeous run and didn't see a soul, other than a few sheep.
Amazing.
