The Nurses of ours who do run (quite a few actually!) seem to prefer that boring flat tarmaccy stuff (I've offered to accompany them, & even the male nurses refuse!!! - must think I'm too slow!)

Emily, the one I mentioned is quite a sporty type, playing Hockey & Netball too! (think John tried to persuade her too)

Cracking race this, did it last year and really wanted to do it again this year but unfortunately away. The route is steady away and easy to follow until the last few miles where it pays to keep an eye on the map - lost a couple of places on the last 600m last year...

Highly recommended. Needs a good breeze like last year...

Hi Greg Thank you for that I presume you mean the wind not our esteemed Chairman who enjoyed himself last year but no way does it need a that wind again. 2 broken limbs and a downed helicopter was a bit much.

Hopefully after today's recce youve got a better idea of the route.

Still a bit hazy round Ing Royd to Bent Road to Ox Lee Lane, footpath is overgrown with nettles - couldnt find the path from the house to the eco warrier place. Went on road instead which is adding time on.

Any words of advice?

Do you have memory map?

I have paper Copies of the route which I'll make up to a MM or GPX file which I'll email to people if they send me their address

I was going to ask John for a copy when I next see him (but it's luck of the draw, dependant on which station he's running out of, & where the patients are, which can meant going to specific Hospitals)
However, I'm on days-off, & don't return until Wednesday afternoon



I'd be interested, just in case our paths don't cross, so do you want a reasonable sized SAE sending to you for the sheet Ian?

I can email it if you have MM or send it as a GPX, in which case you can up load it to google maps etc

Did a reccee yesterday and headed for bog land at cut gate. Done this a few times and always got caught out by the bogs - maybe upto groin region at worst. Yesterday I ended up in a bog up to my neck! Gods know what would have happened if I'd been on my own. My fellow runner couldnt pull me out so I used her leg as an anchor to pull myself out. Just wanted to make people aware so they proceed with caution over this area or at least make sure someone is nearby to help pull you out if required.

top of Bull clough, the home of the bog monster, I still can't understand why people try and go through here, I know the path looks like it goes this way but the pools of water as you approach it are a bit of a give away. cut left at the first sign of trouble, I'm usually stationed here during the race with a throw line. The last two years I've marked out the dryer crossing but people still try and go direct. read the thread from previous years.

to allay your fears though it is impossible to sink completly in the bog as you are lighter than the said bog, chest deep though is possible and scary, I know i've been there....:o

the best cure though is your mates laughing at you..:rolleyes:
