"All in all a real test for TdG. Its OK but could I do it all again tomorrow...and the next day...and the day after that??:eek:"
I'm sure that's what you were thinking before the Dragons Back (of blessed memory) and look how that worked out....
A steady 15m with Mrs Stagger:eek:
First time she has been on a road bike, comments were " I enjoy the cycling, its just the traffic and junctions I don't care for":)
She did well for 1st attempt. I might have a new cycling buddy:cool:
Bit of a Mid Wales hill-fest today. Out for 5hrs 15, 77 miles of hills. Big loop from Brecon over Upper Chapel, managed to avoid getting shot by the military, then over to.......Abergwesyn and you know what comes after that.....Devils Staircase, Gammalt and all the climbing round Llyn Briane to bring you back down to Moley's vomit Lane to Llandovery. Then a chug back to to Brecon.
I need a beer!
< bows down to the King of the Mountains >
Wow, brilliant ride Toff... Must have been hard work in the heat?
I only rode to Abergavenny to discuss my chainset option for the TdG with the guys at M&D.... Then I TT-ed it up the A465 to the doctor's in Ewyas Harold, where I needed to get a medical certificate for the Everest Marathon, so I thought I'd impress the doc my arriving in my cycling gear... It worked, he thought I was fit, rather than mad, and I have my piece of paper :D
Then cycled home over the Col du Bryn... and promptly dunked myself into the river Monnow after that... Lovely it was too, having a little swim in the early evening sunlight overlooking Hatterall Ridge... Beats any swimming pool hands down AND it is in my back garden as well... :) Pitty it is not often that it is warm enough to swim in the river...
Life is just prefect on days like these!
Now sat in my garden, overlooking the same hills, with a beer, waiting for my food to be ready :)
Very hot, especially on the climbs, reckon I need two beers !!:D
Wow, I could have done with a dunk in the river like that when we got back to Brecon!
The dunk in the river was MARVELLOUS! I will be in it every day if the weather stays this hot... as well as having a beer, but as I got cooled down by the water, I am now on the red wine :D
Biked to work this morning, got soaked to the skin.
Dry and misty when I left home, bouncing down with rain in Keighley:o
Still thats 19 mile in the legs this morning with same to come this afternoon:)
Had to go out today after yesterday's monster session just to see how the legs felt after being in bits yesterday evening.........and the answer was surprisingly ok. Did 40 up to Col du Llanwonno and back, monstered up the climb feeling good:), only when I turned round did I realise why it had felt so easy:o, solid headwind all the way back:eek:
Now dessicated, perhaps I should have a beer, though it is a tad early.....
Do you need to do any work tonight? No? Then have a beer :D
Well thats my second 19 mile of the day and I got soaked to the skin again.
No worries though because the loving Mrs Stagger had my tea ready:)
Yesterdays bikeride: Just over two hours of steady hilleage, you know, of the type you find in the area between Monmouth/Grosmont/Raglan/Skenfrith/Abergavenny... My friend was well impressed with the hardness of the terrain out here...
Some more of that tonight. Perhaps Abergavenny/Talgarth/Llangorse/Brecon/Talybont/Llangynidr/Crickhowel/home?
I'm not up with the likes of Hanneke yet but I'm on the ladder:o
54 mile (my longest ever by 10 mile)
5000' of ascent
Under 4 hr and averaged 14mph
Had to stop a couple of times to fill my water bottles, drunk over 6 litres of fluid.
Route was
Huddersfield
Honley
Hepworth
Crowden
Hollingworth
Mossley
Uppermill
Denshaw
and back home down the A640:)
Sounds like an excellent ride Stagger :)
I am not surprised you drank so much, it is swelteringly hot out there, which makes it even more of an achievement...
Its forecast to break here in a bit, hope it does, just off to a cyclo cross race and feel exhausted. I shall look forward to weighing myself tonight given the pounds I will lose coming bottom of the field again.
I fully remember last time I mentioned it, you got abusive and "offered me out" at the 3 peaks X.
Its just that given there are such few caves in UK you live near some of the best. I used to drive for 3-4 hours to do some of those caves, you just don't know what you are missing.
By the way, you were the ne who started the abusive stuff, I seem to remember, accusing me of being some fat bloke... without nadgers...
When we eventually meet you will see that I am the total opposite of a fat bloke :D
A ridiculously hot & humid 75 miles out to the coast and back inland to the Priory cafe at Scorton. Brisk pace with 12 riders to the cafe at 20mph average. 6 of us opted to return via the Trough which began at a very social pace and ended up with a sprint up the climb and a road race to Dunsop Bridge. A little bit of sense was seen and the remainder of the ride was pretty steady. Still close on 19 average when I landed home. Not having had enough of 2 wheels I went for a 90 minute blast on the motorbike. This heat is great for grip but gets you very hot & sticky under the collar.
I could not begin to match Ady's speed and distance.
Went to do the club charity hill climb. Took my old mountain bike to leave at top of hill so I could cycle down at the end. Then met 2 club members who were going to cycle up and down then run back up, so did that with half inflated large off road tyres. My back hurts now - could this be related?
I agree with AS, not in your league Ady.
Just done 15.75 mile in 62.15 mins. Average was 15.2mph.
1500' ascent in to a the westly breeze.
Knackered now but at least I'm out and sweating:)
A swift hour on the TT bike... found it hard to hold 25 mph...
2 hours out with my 2 boys all on road bikes and their good mate on a mountain bike. 14.5 mile but we had some great laughs and managed to stumble up a proper bike race.
I know it doesn't compare with the real cyclists on here but did my longest ride for a couple of years and that was almost all on L-L canal towpath - Rodley to Riddlesden & back (c27 miles in a leisurely 2.5hrs) including the obligatory ice cream stop at 5-Rise:D
All the best bike rides have cake or ice cream MT!
I'm off out now - there was an ice cream van at the half-way point when I drove past earlier! :D
Damn! The ice cream van had gone. 32 at 17.9mph. Grrrr.... Clearly not a real cyclist...
Took the knackered old MTB up to Nant yr Aran again today, there's a long hill (20+ minutes) so rode that uphill hard 3 times and freewheeled back down slowly (got no helmet or decent brakes ). Total 67 minutes uphill effort - about 2 hours riding in total.
Why oh why Moley:confused:
I ran up Pen-y-fan from Cwm Lwch, via the obelisk and Corn Du, then streight off the side... The hardest and most technical bit of fell running I have done since damaging my ankle at the OMM last year...
Ankle was good, my quads are now screaming... so no bikeride tonight
2 hours out on the CX bike with a few hill reps up the Coppice thrown in including a steep carry section. Got to try and true my back wheel up now after a half hearted bunny hop caused the back wheel a little collision damage.

Well my last ride was 56miles with my wife finishing up at starbucks at giltbrook:o.
bug at the weekend but paid to high mileage training and Oakworth haul fell race. Steady 2 hours on X bike tonight, felt very sluggish.
