Like Hodgson, you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Just a thought

True, but expectations low with Ireland, we don't demand first place or qualification, merely to be competent. In this campaign we will finish 4th ahead of Kazakhstan and the Faroes, behind Austria who rank lower than us. That's incompetent.
The real problem was the utter contempt he had for his job and the players, he just stayed in Italy, looks like he went to one club match in his tenure (a Derby one, after which his next squad had 3 Derby players!), learned a handful of words in a few years (which is no big deal...but when his misunderstandings led to a number of arguments with individual players, that was unacceptable), and he sent out teams with players like Conor Sammon and Simon Cox when better players he just did not like were left on the bench or off the squad. To think the players at the highest level, Everton's Coleman and McCarthy, were left off the entire squad for the Euros, while Gibson did not feature for one minute and Cox was preferred to Premier League striker Long...insane.
Just got Poland to beat to qualify for the World Cup Finals. Now don't anybody mention 1973
The attacking options are looking pretty good. Especially with a few more games together. I just worry about Gerrard and Lampard though. I'D be tempted to go with Carrick and Wilshere. That would be an attacking line up.
Sensational play from England.
Still, there's always the second half to re-establish the natural order of things.
Townsend to Real Madrid in the transfer window? ;)
Phew!
So much for Poland having nothing to play for. Next time they get invaded they are on their own :D
Pleased England are there. Even though they're always utter shite it isn't really the same when they don't qualify for tournaments. :)
Tonight's the night to invade - they're all at Wembley.
That second half was a bit of a nerve-shredder. The only thing that didn't happen as I expected was Joe Hart not glumly picking the ball out of the net in about the 85th minute.
Unsung hero for me was Welbeck, who worked incredibly hard and nobody seemed to notice.
Great aim and very entertaining if not a little bit nail bitey.
Great play from every one although I did feel Sturridge should have scored the number of chances he had.
If they show that sort of passion at the finals I'll be happy enough. What I don't want to see is a scared team scraping 3 safe draws
