There's a lot of issues here.

Firstly, the terrain, the routes etc were all fine, hampered by weather.

The lack of prep by Leg 4 runners is hard to understand. Both my Leg 4 runners went around the key part of the route at 10:15 in the morning.

Marshalls - I was on the NAV leg and didn't see one. A 6"x3"x2" dibber machine with a bit of red & white course marking tape wrapped around it is tough to find in Clag.
A marshall would have helped as at least you could have found the dibber once you had got within 50m of it.

If CFR were re-hosting on the same patch, I would just ask for some marshalling on the NAV leg and at least something to make the dibber machine stand out a little more as you approach it.

Finally - the routes were amended as the day approached, to the point where the tanoy broadcast that a CP had been located 100m North of where it was supposed to be.
I hope everyone heard the announcement!

Have I missed something here.....do we not move about the country each year to 'share' round the local Knowledge?

(I had never been to those fells before, but got a look around my leg on Sat pm)

I cant understand their thinking. With Sportident events its all there in black and white. If you havnt dibbed you get DQ'd. I dont think the Tebay race was Sportident was it?

As for lack of preparation. When i was on leg 4 in Wales i made a 4 hour round trip to recce the course. Thats not something i would ever do for an individual race but i didnt want to let my team mates down

Like any race, if you want local knowledge get out there and recce it... as someone once said, "who has the problem here?"

The FRA are aware that the standard of competitors in fell relay races may be lower than in full navigation fell races. Hence the more stringent rules for fell relays:-

Serious question here, have they ever been held in the south of England? South Wales? or Northern Ireland?

It's not a huge issue anyway. I'm not sure it should be such an issue that someone thinks the relays should be flagged, is that such a threat to the sport?

How is the marshall who broke his leg??

Not sure Iain, (probably not from your post) but i'm assuming it moves around to give most folk a fair chance of attending.
