Third time for me, the previous two times i have had blisters even wearing shoes that haven't given me blisers before. I'd wear whatever is more comfortable, if the weather stays it will be dry and hard under foot. Might wear my road shoes, shit think i've had too much sun
Road shoes for me this year if it stays dry. I've done all my long runs in them in this dry weather and I think I will be more comfortable in them. They are quite an old pair, so this could be their swan-song ;)
Oh dear poor you sunny side. Sorry to hear of Your fall. We suggest Ibuprofen and giving your place to your wife!see you next week!
Road shoes in the majority, then. Would still prefer trail. Can see me turning up to Horton with a large bag if shoes.
Sunnyside - how are the ribs today? Hopefully bruised not cracked?!!
Thanks for that comment Daleside..........very helpful!
Macali - I hope ribs are not cracked and only bruised....they are still very painful and if they dont improve then I cant run on Saturday!
Actually wife swap not a bad idea, then a could have some company on the way round.
Every cloud...
It's just an opinion, but in most cases I think that the distinctions between "specialist" road, trail and fell shoes is a bit overstated. I did the Wuthering Hike in nice comfy, cushioned road shoes. I was able to overtake a couple of people in the last few miles, urged on by the thought that their feet would be hurting far more than mine on that stony descent to Leeshaw Reservoir.
I've been reccying the Bob Graham in the same road shoes, though if it's been wet on the day i may opt for fell shoes on leg one if I'm doing the vertical grass on the Parachute Descent.
I'll be doing the3 Peaks and the Lakeland 100 in the same trusty old one and a half sizes too big road shoes whatever the weather.
Bottom line: wear shoes you like - I would have thought that you would need to be a bit mental/masochistic to run any race wearing shoes you hate!
As everyone else has said, wear what you feel comfortable in. If you don't like your road shoes then definitely don't wear them!
I'll be running in inov-8 290s, which are terrain-wise completely unnecessary but I've done most of my longer runs in them and I feel most comfortable in them. Plus I don't want to get my pristine white road shoes muddy :p
