I was just putting food out and now I'm studying your avatar.
Well Daz, me spending £4000 on a bike is just like someone spending the same amount on a car - and it won't cost me much at all to run it.
As for saving up for a deposit, well I have a second job and save most of my income - except for what I spend on bikes (which come out of the weekend pocket money job, and I've calculated into that. I'd already saved a heck of a lot before I bought my first bike, and I never buy on credit. I am actually very careful with my money, even though I may spend a lot on cycling, I don't waste it, not down the pub boozing it away like some people (who have still managed to get a mortgage). Technically I already have enough for a deposit, but I want to raise a lot more before committing. I also need to get myself sorted with a permanent job, but don't seem to be having much sucess with that, despite the excellent references I get from employers.
As for £150,000 for a first time buyers house, what are you living on cloud cuckoo land?? You would be lucky to get a shack over here for that much!! You can expect at least £190,000 for a first time buyers (ie government subsidised) house over here!!
