My main 'medical' problem was with my hard contact lenses, which had grit sandblasted into them going up PYG and just got worse from there. I actually had to run with my eyes shut at times. Maybe I did an extra peak by mistake and that's what took me so long. My corneas have a fetching artex-like finish this morning; think I'll be wearing my glasses for the next few days.
Bad luck MG, you looked gutted at Ribblehead. Thanks for letting me have a drink as I was searching frantically for my bottle, which had migrated several rows from where it ought to have been.
Awww sorry you had such a bad run TF! It's no wonder you couldn't see your bottle though! Well done on keeping going and getting yourself round. Hope your eyes are ok now, it was very dusty yesterday.
I am feeling very deflated this morning, weak and weary, shaky and nauseous. I couldn't understand how it took me longer to get up PYG than last time when I am so much fitter this year and have done everything right leading up to it training wise!
Had a terrible run and even struggled to get along the road section when I should have been raring.
I'm still sat in tears! A big confidence knock too! I need to get a grip, pick myself up and start again! :closed:

Sorry to be pedantic but ........... Since the 3P has been Categorised as an AL event no one (not the runner, the race organiser or anyone else) has discretion to waive any of the mandatory kit requirements. I would have hoped that everyone entering Cat A events would have been aware of this.
Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
Well I for one though yesterday was a glorious day. Bearing in mind my last long run was the Heptonstall race in mid March the target was to be inside the cut off’s therefore took it steady all the way round & took on each summit / checkpoint / landmark individually – this seemed to have the desired effect of getting me round without thinking how much further to go. Achieved a personal worst by 9 mins but was I bothered. MG sorry to hear of you having to retire-don’t beat yourself up too much – come back next year & do yourself justice. Tussockface it doesn’t matter about your position – you got round.
Fantastic support on the way round from Ady, Brett – who was everywhere, Clive, the 2 unidentifiable cyclists who referred to me as “a Machine” & the marshals throughout the course & in particular one of the latter ones who encouraged me to “finish with a flourish” which I hoped I did.
Not sure how you can encourage runners to keep to the footpath on the descent of Whernside & the amount of litter was disappointing to see.
Very good to see Mr Stringman receive his framed print following 21 successive completions & touching to hear the warm words of a living legend & 1 of the pioneers of the sport / race.
Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
I was smiling all the way round! My first time. Love the suport and the fellow runners. I saw quite a few making a cheeky short cut off Whernside gaining a good two or three minutes on me. As for kit - I carry full body cover but only use it in winter. Well done to everyone who had a go.

Not quite Full Body Cover - but well within the spirit of the race

Passed that lady going up Whernside, saw her at the finish and looked like she'd had a nasty tumble, badly grazed face and chin. Still smiling though:thumbup:
Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
Well, I had a bit of a disaster - running quite well, if conservatively to Ribblehead (went through in about 1hr 45), and although the ascent of Whernside was tough, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be (could have been the help from the wind), but the descent was tough (wind again). I started feeling unwell coming up the Hill Inn (heat?), and nearly dropped out. However, I decided that I wasn't going let it beat me and carried on (may have been a bit stupid, but I saw Tim Midgeley sat there and I know he has a habit of dropping out of races and I didn't want fall into that trap).
I think I recorded a 45min/mile going up Ingleborough, and was sick on the zig-zags, but once I reached the summit I felt better and managed a run-walk to the finish, and ran the last mile with a clubmate who'd beaten the cut-offs for the first time in 3 attempts. 5hrs 12mins. About an hour slower than I wanted, but I finished.
Will I be back next year? We'll see...
Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
All was going well till the decent off Wernside,i even paced my self well ready for a fast decent off Wernside and Inglebugger. But coming off Wernside couldnt desend and had to walk as stomach was off and walked jogged all way to finsh in 4;22.I nearly didnt bother going the Ingleborough Summit but glad i did, still i enjoyed the day out and it will be there again to go back to another year.

You do not need to start again MG -you are already there, just pick another event and show others and yourself what you have got. So you did not make this target next time you will still be so much fitter than you were after working towards it - use this towards your next target.

It would have been more sense for the race organisers to insist on Factor 30 sunblock being applied beforehand, but they didn't.
I have an OMM bum bag - it's pretty standard - I can hold most of my gear in there, but for days like yesterday I feel that for a runner of my standing with an ETA of just under 5 hours that it's more appropriate and safer to carry plenty of energy, nuun tablets, always have some water with me and a few first aid items believe it or not and to be honest it worked well for me yesterday.
If I'd have packed hat and gloves I would have had to dismiss something else.
Anyway as I was told nevermind, then I didn't do anything wrong.
as you were not in front of me and i have no gain in you being disqualified i will not complain.............................this time.
What short-cutters, Whernside?
