Love it! Brilliant! :D
I'm going to adopt that quote! :D

Not sure, at all, about the 1st half, but I live a few hundred yards from the start of leg 7. I might end up picking up a leg for the relay event. Looking at the map a lot of this end of the route is definitely scenic, nice farmland out past Firbeck and Stone, before passing Roche abbey. OK, you hit Maltby before heading out across the fields again, but you miss the worst of it!
Keep an eye out for a guy called Ray Matthews. He’s 60-70 (not a speed merchant) whose done it before. This year he’s aiming to have done it overnight before coming in for the official start and doing it all over again.
Looks like its a poignant one this year:
Obituary
Golly! He really was a decent chap. I hope there will be something significant to mark his passing, at the start of the race.
It's a month today! I'd better get some long runs in then. Got the go-ahead last night from Mrs Basil so I'll be there and hoping to crack 8 hrs this time. And hoping for non-monsoon conditions (as opposed to my last 2 ventures)
Any bits of this RR that are particularly tricky to navigate? I know there are strip maps provided but wondered if any sections would benefit from a look see beforehand?
None of it is navigationally difficult, as long as you are paying attention to the map!
Easier said than done when tired or when following someone and not really concentrating...
The bits I have struggled with (minor nav errors) are:
1. Tinsley. There’s an alley down the side of a steel yard and I’ve missed it both times. Where you turn R off the main Tinsley road. The actual alley is quite dark, overgrown and narrow.
2. Keppel’s column. When you pass it you come to a side road, and the temptation is to turn L thinking you can get onto the main road and cut off a small corner of the official route. You can’t. You have to turn R and follow the road round to the main road.
3. In the woods after Roche Abbey you are tired, and both times I’ve come a little unstuck on the paths in the next couple of miles. Not difficult but concentration is generally poor that late in the race
4. The last leg through the residential areas around Swinton and Wath are notorious and I’ve always been careful to pay attention to the map and not got lost. I’ve read stories of people getting rather stuck here, so if there’s one bit you might want to try then this would be it.
These are my vague recollections from a couple of years ago. I’m sure I’ve come unstuck at different sections as well…
In general, the navigation has been fairly easy and I’ve not been too troubled with route-finding. I’ve never got it 100% though!
I hadn't realised that there was a seven a.m. start for this!
Just emailed the organiser and asked if I can park my campervan at the event centre and sleep over on Friday. Don't really fancy a four a.m. start.
Folks have also be known to miss the right turn into the alley immediately after the DHL base at 23km
A pal of mine has managed to wrong in Maltby two years running, but I'm not sure how - possibly lack of concentration due to fatigue - as it is quite straightforward.
Like Basil, I'm hoping to crack 8hrs - at the 6th time of asking. Did 8.14 last year. I'm going to taper for it this year starting from now.
Its not quite as much fun as it was when it was a December event, but it was my first ever ultra and I have a soft spot for it. As others have commented, it has some grotty bits, but these are more than compensated for by the rural sections. The course passes within about 400m of Meadowhall and I am always grateful that I'm out running rather than inside shopping.
