Dambusters flypast

I don't think there were as many planes taking part as last time, wern't there Huricanes, a Spitfire and a Dakota, 5 years ago as well as the Lancaster. Still worth a quick trip to sit on the hill side and watch a piece of history fly past. Probablly could have seen it from my window at home but then I would have missed the beer festival at the Yorkshire Bridge inn whilst waiting for the traffic to clear. Life is good sometimes.

2x Spitfires, 2x Tornados and the Lancaster, which nearly didn't make it - it was still on the ground at 1230... (The missus was giving me updates from the Ops Room on progress.)

Whinstone Lee Tor was particularly busy but it looked like carnage on the Snake and Fairholmes Road, with cars arriving right at the last minute and being abandoned all over the place...

I thought it was supposed to be off the ground at 11:55, and flying over Cosford at 12:30. It arrived at Chapel-en-le-Frith bang on time at 12:50 for four passes over the town in recognition of local man, Flight Lieutenant William Astell DFC who took part in the raid and in memory of all those that lost their lives in the raid.

No Spitfires or Tornados, but some close-up views of the Lancaster as it flew tight circuits overhead before heading off over Kinder on its way to the Derwent Valley.

We were at war. The bombers themselves were terrible things but one has to have absolute admiration for the, well kids really, that flew in them knowing their odds of a terrifying death were probably worse than 1 in 10. She was obviously a little late with her update then! Text came through at 1230... Either way, it wasn't looking good for the Lanc at first. We'll see in 5 years' time...
