Race-won beer has to be enjoyed while you can still feel the race in your legs. It's the law.

Anyone doing this on Sunday (4 August)? http://otleyac.org.uk/round-hill-fell-race/
Club champs for us as well, I like this one I am not usually last!
I "jogged" round Turner Landscape last Sunday after Blisco. I'm using that as my excuse for not running Round Hill :)
Going to an easy run around the Yorkshireman Ultra-Half route instead - it might also mean a kick-start of sorts to my supposed marathon training...
I'm planning a Borrowdale + Round Hill weekend, anyone else?
Good conditions for today's race with the bogs being reasonably benign. Myself and DinoF are still wondering why we bothered with 2 layers though as got rather warm, particularly after the fast long descent from the summit. I'm not alone in saying I was grateful for the ice and water at CP3. Thanks to all at Otley AC for organising and marshalling etc.:) Lots of photos on facebook....https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...0986630&type=1
Perfect day for it, warm but with a nice breeze over the tops. Great job Otley AC, really enjoyable race.
Great course, highly recommended and great atmosphere...thanks for everyone who checked after I took a bad ankle fall at 2 miles, got through in about 80 mins, but downhill was slow and painful...sorry for anyone who was slowed by my hobble...next year I'll be back!!!!
Thanks again, it's a bit balloon shaped at the minute, so lots of rest before Norland....
I did thanks, WJB. Had a great day doing the route after camping at the beautiful Turner Hall campsite on the Friday night. I'm not running it this year but it's on my list now. Woke up not really feeling like running on Sunday but did anyway. Hope you enjoyed your double.
On Saturday night the weatherman on the news said we were going to get battered by hurricane Bertha. I awoke Sunday morning looked out the curtains and it looked grim but not horrendous. So 90 minutes later I find myself in the quaint little village hall of picturesque Timble, a small village on the outskirts of Otley.
I've never done Round Hill and was expecting it to be a runnable course due to it's category CM. I much prefer the rough stuff but love trying out new races. I was hoping the flat sections would at least be wet soggy moorland and fortunately my luck was in. There's also sections of fast tracks but at least there was some cracking puddles to run through, I think I'm still a big kid at heart.
The start is fast on track and I was struggling to hang onto the front pack and was relieved when we hit the woods and soon the moors. I settled into a group off the pace of the front pack and started to enjoy the more familiar terrain of the moors. The climbs were all runnable and the descents were not technical but care was needed over the slippy surface. It was a fast track finish of maybe a mile and it had me blowing big time, happy with 12th.
The weather was wet but thankfully hardly any wind and it was a good mild running temperature, Bertha was kind.
Thanks to all involved and hats off to all the drenched marshals( see you soon Shane, take care).
Yes, it was a bit damp wasn't it? :D
A good day and let me also add my thanks to all the marshalls who stood out in the rain for what was probably far too long.
I image Otley A.C. will have the results out fairly soon, but from memory:
1. Adam Osbourne (Leeds A.C ?)
2. Andy Grant (Harrogate Harriers)
3. John Young (Harrogate Harrers)
1. Rebecca Caesar De Sa (Skyrac I think)
2. Sorry, forgot
3. Helen Price (Harrogate Harriers)
And me a lot further down the list. Good to meet you Darren, the ice pack has been applied.
Just a minor Fishwicking from me running this after the Turner Landscape. Think it just meant I was slower in both races, but a fun weekend. Loved the rain too.
Good to meet you again Darren, and hope you'll be back to try more Otley/Ilkey races.
Thanks, Darren. By the way, entries for the Lakeland 50 open on September 1st!
Its come round again - Sunday 11.00 at Timble, north of Otley -http://otleyac.org.uk/round-hill-fell-race/. Lovely runnable course over quiet moors.
and perhaps some very small bogs!

So there will be a big climb up Round Hill!
Well most of you missed a lovely race! I know who you are as I was registering runners in, which unfortunately took longer than I expected - so I missed the start and wasn't able to run.
This meant I could help at the finish which was new to me. Lovely to receive a gentle introduction to the dark art of fell race organisation from Andrew R. What was even finer was that Antonio put on one of his better performances and finished 20 minutes faster than last year (when I was sweeper) - so less hanging around at the death. Don't worry - he was still last.
I can tell you a very funny story about a head of the field runner who lost a prize winning place due to some unfortunate poo issues!
I can't help wondering whether this incident is similar to what happened to me at the 1979 Goat Fell race, when on the descent I was very grateful that the heather beside the path was deep enough for me to squat down without being seen - twice. I also kept running beyond the finish line until I had reached the toilets.
Just noticed it's on next weekend so I had a run round today. It's become very overgrown in places that used to be wide enough for a colliery band, and the double trod section on the main descent is missing. If it stays hot there won't be any water on the course. The becks on the way back are looking a bit rusty and cloudy, I drenched my vest and had a couple of token mouthfuls which my guts might live to regret. Plenty of those bloody sweat flies about.
Now then Mr B! I had a run round the route with my son on Monday. I'll be taking entries and not able to run. He's offered to marshal so I was showing him the checkpoints.
You're right it is more overgrown then normal. From the gate before the climb up Round Hill after the bog of doom keep close to the wall were there is a mown strip which is easier running than the path. The two off-road vehicles have been removed from the bog of doom - they had been in there for a couple of months and I hope they are ruined.
The long descent from Round Hill is overgrown a bit - be careful with your ankles. Going through the wood is OK, but watch out for the nettles. At the top of the short steep hill out of the woods the level path is overgrown, but runnable. From there on it is fine.
I think the reason for the tracks being overgrown is due to the Denton Estate changing from Grouse shooting to a rewilding policy, so less gamekeeper action on the moor. Did you notice the renovation of the shooting hut into an upmarket glamping venue?
Look forward to seeing you and many other runners next Sunday. Should be dry, though some of the marshals will have water, most likely before the climb up past the shooting hut.
Not mown by Otley AC I can assure you Graham! Think the estate did it to aid fencing.
The annoying little gullies in the main descent trod are now mostly invisible, but it's still fairly quick. I can't see any records being broken from now on. That shooting hut looks to have been turned into a conference space of sorts; there are peat restoration stickers everywhere and they have installed a septic tank.
Tomorrow, 10.30 start. Get there a bit early to park, register and get to the start. Very runnable and cheap.
