Re: Wuthering Hike-Haworth Hob
Brett Brett Brett
I'm so slack, only posting my entry this AM.
Is it too late and will I have to tell everyone that "I'm doing something much better" or will I be OK for entry?
-
Re: Wuthering Hike-Haworth Hob
Panic ye not fellow Hobblers. Brett said yesterday that he'd had 70-ish entries so far ;-}
-
Re: Wuthering Hike-Haworth Hob
You lot had me a bit worried there. 70 entries so far and 234 finishers last year (and quite a few DNFs) suggests plenty of time to get mine in. Phew!
I'm really looking forward to this, even though I know it's going to kill me :o
-
Re: Wuthering Hike-Haworth Hob
The event hasn't filled up since the 70's (I think??) when fields of 1000 were not uncommon)
Plenty of time to get your entry in!
-
Re: Wuthering Hike-Haworth Hob
My entry went off on Saturday, even marked up my map.
-
Re: Wuthering Hike-Haworth Hob
I'm in got me number this morning:D :D :D

Re: Wuthering Hike-Haworth Hob
Ya hooo - got my envelope back today and I'm on the list. Looks like I'll have to do it! Wonder if I can remember the route from last time I did it? (1991...)
Certainly won't bother trying to get anywhere near the same time ... (PK days!!!)

Re: Wuthering Hike-Haworth Hob
Would like to do this one but not sure legs could take it after doing the High Peak Marathon the Friday/Saturday before.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I'm doing both and I think the rest of my team is. Team Montrail (probably team Vasque now) I'm sure will be doing both as well. Make sure you get out to tick the legs over (even if still sore) it gets the blood pumping around and gets rid of all the dead cells/acid etc. Also consider a sports massage or learn to do one yourself.
I might not get the best time I could achieve - but I'll still enjoymyself

I'm doing both also, If you've done the training you should get through it.
If I can get a pass i'm also going to try and squeeze the Manx MM in before the Skyline. Too much we'll see?
-
Re: Wuthering Hike-Haworth Hob
I did both last year. The High Peak Marathon probably took the edge off my performance in Wuthering Hike, but it also gave me the confidence to know that I could get round the 33 miles: so it's probably swings and roundabouts.
I'll be doing both again this year and I know some of the rest of Team Vasque will be too.

Re: Wuthering Hike-Haworth Hob

Sorry can't help with map team pie but below are one or two tips :)
1) eat and drink as much as you can but don't have onions on your hotdog!
2) bear in mind lots of climbing still after leaving Stoodley Pike
3) two trickiest bits to navigate are just after leaving golf club and when you're crossing road in Hebden Bridge before going up to Heptonstall
4) they have the weakest tea in the world at Mankinholes YHA c/p
5) if you get lost Keighley and Craven AC vests are red, white and green hoops so follow one of those!
-
Re: Wuthering Hike-Haworth Hob
I'm in, race number came whilst I was away.

yes but it was a little too warm for a skiing trip, It's much colder and snowier in the peak than it was in the Alps.
I did two runs whilst I was there. the first took me 1500ft up a road and track in shorts and vest:eek: until I was well above the snow line when the sun went down.

thanks for tips derby tup, will go with kcac maps on website. We were thinking of starting a recce from widdop reservoir on sat at about seven. thinking we should be able to follow a fe up to that point then if we doing well on day we can make a dash for it from there (so to speak!)

Re: Wuthering Hike-Haworth Hob
Is this do-able in normal trainers?
-
Re: Wuthering Hike-Haworth Hob
Marko, worst part is probably coming off Stoodley Pike on Pennine Way but apart from that a lot is on good trails. I wear trail shoes as my thinking is comfort is more important than grip!

It was a bit damp last year but there were loads of runners in flats. they were obvious because they kept falling over:rolleyes:
If it's dry you might risk it, I think fell shoes are over the top but a comfy pair of trail shoes should see you through.
I hope the trails are dryer than they were for the relays.;)

Re: Wuthering Hike-Haworth Hob
Is there a text description of the route available anywhere please? I thought I had one last year but I may be misremembering.
Cheers.
-
Re: Wuthering Hike-Haworth Hob
on the second page of the entry form

Re: Wuthering Hike-Haworth Hob
It's not, unfortunately: I ended up in some bloke's back garden in Hebden Bridge last year :o Luckily, he was nice about it!
I'm looking forward to it in any case: last year's was an excellent event.

Re: Wuthering Hike-Haworth Hob
So which forumites are doing this? I've seen the entry list but as I don't know many 'real' names I can't match them them up with the forum personae.
(Apologies if it sounds as if I've started posting in Latin.)

Can't believe you have given away our "real names" so easily!!
I expect we will beat last years time if we follow one of the "Kryptonelle's" teams from Tod!

Re: Wuthering Hike-Haworth Hob
Oh, and by the way, I wasn't asking anyone to disclose their closely guarded identities. I only asked which forumites were up for the Hobble this year!
