Wasdale July 12th 2008
I am seriously thinking of entering this, any advice on the race and were to camp, is there a map of the route to buy or is it an ordanance survey job? Do you get to meet Joss Naylor:cool:

Re: Wasdale July 12th 2008
I assume this starts from wasdale head, there is a NT campsite and also one attached to the pub, although I haven't stayed at either of them. I have stayed in Nether Wasdale though at Church Stile campsite and this is pretty good I can vouch for the facilities being pretty good. ;)

Re: Wasdale July 12th 2008
After much serious thought on this i have decided to do the sensible thing and bottle it till next year. Gives me time to get another years mileage in my legs and do a recce of the course. Going to do the Holme Moss instead as that's an AL. Want to get into the 3 Peaks next year. How many AL's do you need to do to enter it? Respect the fact that Wasdale is a tough one and i'm probably not ready for it yet, only been fell running for a year. All the best to everyone who's entered and hope you all make it round. Thanks for everyone's advice, next year for definate;)

Re: Wasdale July 12th 2008
'Ow do Merry.
You need to have completed at least 2 FRA category AM, AL, BL races anytime back to the previous January (i.e. for PPP 2009 it'll be since Jan 1st 2007 I'd imagine). I don't think you'll have any probs with that qualification! :)

No worries Merry :) I'll do the recce for you...ont'12th July  I sent my entry in last week. Recce'd Pillar round to the end so far...don't think I'll have a chance to do the Seatallan recce I was after but thought knowing the end bit was probably better than knowing the middle bit!
Oh..and the recce's were tough so the race is gonna be...erm...tougher!!!
p.s Wharfeego's not doing it either.
p.p.s Hey Amex...you still gonna be there...?
-
Re: Wasdale July 12th 2008
Entry form filled in posting tomorrow. Thinking about Holme Moss as well. No chickening out of this for me.
(wanders off muttering about lost kahunas and wimps:rolleyes:)

Re: Wasdale July 12th 2008
Last year Fellshoeshuffler treated us to a google earth file of the route
http://forum.fellrunner.org.uk/showp...2&postcount=46
You can now recce from the comfort of your own armchair.

Yes its nice and strong, you will be fine! Don't bother with the map either. Your lappy will suffice.

Great, 'coz I had to get a compass out last year!

My compass is knackered. It doesn't matter which way I walk, the needle always points in the same direction.......it sometimes even points behind to where I've just come from!

Re: Wasdale July 12th 2008
Have just realised there is a flaw in my plan - the battery only lasts 3hrs, I'm not sure I am up to beating Billy's record by half an hour :(.

Re: Wasdale July 12th 2008
Its all gone a bit quiet about this, but with less than 2 weeks to go I am getting excited already. Nagged another couple of Westies to enter to so I wont be the only Big'W'. Who else is going, I don't recognise many names from the forum on the list so I can't tell, but no Baggins, Huw or Moo (the latter maybe still suffering post Ennerdale?).
This and TheBen are my aims for this year so its onwards and upwards.

I'm going to be there. I entered last week so that if I felt OK after the BG I had something to go for. Well I managed a steady five miles yesterday and another six or so today and I'm definitely up for it. I don't imagine I will be very quick, but I might recognise some of the scenery.
I'll look forward to seeing you there Tross.
I recognise GeoffB and PurplePlodder on the entry list.
-
Re: Wasdale July 12th 2008
I am there as well.
Looking forward to it despite not having ran for over a week now. I have an excuse of holiday and too drunk but suppose I should get back on it.

Re: Wasdale July 12th 2008
I sent my entry in late, hoping it would be returned, but unbounded joy, I've been put on the entry list. I just love slimy rocks and bumpy bits.

Here;)
http://www.cfra.co.uk/
Click on Our Calender then Click on Pre-Entries for the Wasdale "Horseshoe" Fell Race.

Re: Wasdale July 12th 2008
cheers MLegs, thought it would be on that site, but couldn't seem to find it.
having survived (and enjoyed) Ennerdale, I'm giving this one a crack. For those that have done both, how much tougher IS Wasdale? I was wondering what time to aim for etc. Ennerdale took me 5.36.

Re: Wasdale July 12th 2008
I'm in! Can't wait!
It'd be nice if they were the finishing positions, not the entry list....

Re: Wasdale July 12th 2008
I was just hoping to turn up at the NT campsite Friday evening. Is this likely to be doable or has it been full lately does anyone know?
