Good race count for June Joey. Great debut season on the fells - I'm impressed! How many have will you done?

Thanks Trig. My first taste of the fells was the Yorkshireman Half last September; that led to the Stoop and Rivock Edge before Christmas. I've done about a dozen or so races in 2011 so far (with a good few on the horizon as well.) A good part of the reason I've taken part in so many stemmed from you, Mark and other chaps from Heptonstall being so friendly on the first Heptonstall recce/race. So thanks! Truth be told, before that first recce I'd been quite nervous about 'stepping up' to fells from the roads (even though I'd done the Yorkshireman). Now I've got a degree of confidence I'm really enjoying the different challenges of all the different types of races there are out there. So many hills and mountains - so little time :D.

Boulsworth Hill?

Slightly difficult to get a sense of scale but it looks a bit like Lower Gorple Stones (I think called Dicken Rocks on OS maps). Having said that it may be nowhere near an I may not have a clue what I'm taking about.

Just been having a glance at the forecast for the week. It's (as in the BBC) given loads o' rain out for the Heptonstall area Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Could make it an interesting run at the weekend given the steepness of the ups and downs. ;)

Lots of flyers given out at the Oakworth Haul on Saturday (but no exciting photos of them in public conveniences - and I didn't want to attract dodgy looks by taking a camera into the portaloo!)

Oh well it was too hot this weekend! Fell running always feels more real when the clag is down and the bogs are full....

That's the plan - I'll have my electric blue vest on :closed:. What's the midge count like round Heptonstall so far this week? I'm not sure my legs have got much space for many more bites! Does Jungle Formula work against bog mud???

Heptonstall is usually midge free - however you might want to run quickly past the Blue Pig - they don't call it Midge Hole for nothing;)
Think the midgies only come out at dusk so you no need to slap on the DDT

whats the latest on that Saturday am weather forecast?

The BBC is giving light rain for Saturday morning with good visibility - light relief after the torrential downpour it's suggesting for Friday.

Its clear now....

Just had a nice message from Springhead Brewery (Newark) - they are donating 32 bottles of Ale as prizes plus a 70 pint keg for the pumps at the White Lion (all takings to help the Festival) good on em!!!

Is 2 bottles per prize OK?

Not that I'm likely to win a prize, but 2 bottles does mean the winners get to taste the second bottle; the first wouldn't even touch the sides on the way down. The BBC have changed their mind to bright sunshine and temperatures of about 18C for Saturday now. Could we be looking at another hot run??

Few more details about Heptonstall Festival which starts at 12 noon following the race at 11am. If you're quick you can be back for the opening of the bands and stalls!

10:45 Bashful Drum Circle should be in the Square to give all the runners a good send off! You can join them later an have a go in the beer garden behind The Cross.
12:00 Local Heptonstall band The Fat Rascals kick off the show with their noisy mix of punk and ska classics.
12:30 Halifax based One Will with guitar and song performing covers from Oasis, The Beatles, Ocean Colour Scene and other 90s bands.
1:00 Heptonstall's Magician in Residence, Neal Alexander Wells will delight the small people and astonish the big ones with an extraordinary show.
1:30 Mahogany Monkey is a six piece folk-rock band from Brighouse.
2:00 John Stammers & Ian Hinton Smith are a new act for the Festival. John has recently performed sessions for Mark Riley on Radio 6-Music. www.wonderfulsound.com
2:30 Paul Weatherhead is a Hebden Bridge singer / songwriter who describes his inimitable style as "Psychedelic Folk". He is hysterically funny.

For the small folk there will be face painting and games as well as story telling throughout the afternoon by the NSPCC Story Teller in Residence, Ursula Holden Gill www.ursulaholdengill.co.uk

There will be a variety of stalls around the square including ale by Little Valley and food from the Towngate Tea Room and we have some very posh raffle prizes this year.

Looks like it should be a good day out all round. Fingers crossed the weather is kind - nice and cool for the runners to start with and then brightening to glorious sunshine for the bands would be just about perfect. :p
