Good to see you too DT - hope to see you on 9th (as we missed that pint!)
Thanks to Jackie & co for a great night's running -and particularly for managing to time the event despite the biblical plague of midgies that feasted on our sweaty legs!!!
Think at least 10 Heptonstall Hurriers ran - mainly incognito - good to see Joey D sporting his new HH regalia - must also get him signed up for CVFR.
Looking foward to improving my "short" performances at Stoodley next week
See you all again on 9th July at Heptonstall Festival ????

Some great stile leaping going on there!

Re: Cragg Vale 2011 - Weds 29
This will be my 4th race in 6 days - we're so lucky having such a fantastic fell running calendar within walking (or short cycle) distance of Hebden Bridge (52 races at last count)
Hope all the usual crowd will be out in force plus any formuites who have nt yet had a go....support your local races!!
Cragg Vale is a favourite as the atmosphere is always great - hopefully Little Valley Brewery will be there again??

Don't remind me - I did nt appear on the MSM list of 3 race finshers thanks to may DSQ status. Anyway it won't be repeated at Cragg on Wednesday I have been preparing; it was such a fine morning me, graeme brown on Louise (and a collie called Jack) recced the route. Lovely!
Beware. The recent biblical rainfall has made for an "interesting" section through the woods at SUNDERLAND PASTURE. Bring your arm bands.

Out on the moors last night and was very surprised about just how quickly they have dried so probably no need for swimming kit. I was out in plimsolls and they coped just fine as always.

Re: Cragg Vale 2011 - Weds 29

The moors were pretty soggy where I was last night; I'll be keeping my water wings to hand! Thanks for the reminder about midge repellant; I'm going to fetch mine out ready now!!!
Is the course marked at all?

Marmite is supposed to make you mozzi proof, should work for midges too, it's a b@st@rd to wash off after though!
-
Re: Cragg Vale 2011 - Weds 29
Marmite is also difficult to smear on :D
I'm going to use boots repel natural citrepel 75. No idea if it'll work!

Is it citrus they don't like? Perhaps I should sqeeze Jiffy lemon on? No idea what the active ingredient of marmite might be, but it I reckon you might repel most mamals as well as insects if you run up past the Hinchliffe smeared in a savoury sandwich filling.
-
Re: Cragg Vale 2011 - Weds 29
Update on the marmite situation: I've been advised by my advisors your supposed to eat it. I have also been advised I'm a feckwit, not sure what that means? Any more advisors out there:confused::D

Yes citronella, eucalyptus too I think. You could try rubbing yourself with a lemon or lime....might be a bit stingy though!!!!
Suspect many mamals would go for a tasty sarnie filling :D

Dam! All this talk of marmite has sent me rumaging round the cupboards for sneaky slice or two (one is never enough)

Too fast and furious for me, a trot over and back and the pooch gets a good run.

Re: Cragg Vale 2011 - Weds 29
Avon skin so soft keeps the buggers at bay, it smells ghastly!
Trig -recent list, in reverse order, goes Tom Tittiman, Reservoir Bogs, St Ives Trail, Sutton Pinnacles, Cononley, Bucken Pike! All great
-
Re: Cragg Vale 2011 - Weds 29
I'm not sure about the merits of lots of marmite or other yeast based foodstuffs, but Tesco or Boots kids insect repellent is pretty good for midges and not too stingy. I seem to recall the route being pretty clear to follow last year (although as a confirmed mid-packer I had a good number of people to follow!)

And yet I still didn't spot you! One day
The positive being I was ahead of Mrs Stagger who I wholly expected to be running with tonight!!!
A cracking little race, loved the bogs, Avon Skin So Soft (I'm not an agent) kept me midge free if a little pungent!! Thanks to all

Good to meet you too Steve.
Bog diving for my lost shoe was a new experience. Quite a laugh. All thoughts of racing went out the window.

Re: Cragg Vale 2011 - Weds 29
It was good to see everyone :)
I barely recognised The Grandmaster....Steve I think you've run off half your body mass!
I forgot to use my midge repellant!

Good to see you too Stef, looking well after your troubles, I've only lost about 3 pounds since you last saw me, most of that went on midge repellent!
