Have you got a route map (me being a southern foreigner???) I'll se you there.

Nice one Dom. It seems I'm still learning - I didn't know that was online. I would recommend the best photo spot is at the top stile. Any higher and you risk people taking different lines on the descent and you missing them.
Thanks to everyone who came along today. I've just sent the results to Brett - let me know if there are any mistakes.
As it was my first time organising this, here are some things we'll do differently next year:
Earlier prizegiving: it always annoys me to have to wait ages after races. Thanks to those who stuck around in the rain today.
More prizes for juniors: there were some fantastic performances today. In future, I'll acknowledge this with more category prizes.
The kitty for beating the course record increases each year. We had both record holders there today, but they couldn't improve on their previous fantastic times this year.
Other suggestions? Apart from changing the course :)
Thanks for being official photographer today Dom. I hope you got some good ones before the rain set in.
Official?? :w00t: Not sure I can cope with that pressure! Many more to follow.

Thanks Noel for the race. Smoothly organised and enjoyably painful!
And good to see you too Dom.

It's great to see so many juniors doing well. Six in the top 12 yesterday and some great performances by some of the younger ones. As I said, next year, I'll have more categories and more prizes.

Tis a great race...no doubt. Glad to have been of use helping with the registration and timing this year.
Thanks for organising it Noel. It was good to see the front runners drop off the top of Shuts... It's a great, scary descent.:w00t:
One to keep you going while I sort the rest out. :sneaky:

Thanks Noel and team - a well-organised event.Shame I couldn't have pushed you more this time.As you mentioned,it was a long wait for the presentation, although it was beyond your control I assume?
And the rest of the snaps,

Thanks gazb. Next year. I'll be a V40 then too, so there might be even more riding on it. :)
I've already raised the issue of prize-giving timing with the fete committee. This year we were bit slow, and I'm confident we can get that sorted next year.
But then once we had the results, we have to wait an extra 20 minutes for the end of the dog show before the prize-giving could take place. Also, it's a bit strange having the kids races so early - even before the fete has started! So we're hoping to change that next year too.
It's nearly time again. Shutlingsloe fell race on Monday: http://fellrunner.org.uk/races.php?id=3081
If you've not done it before, it's a great local race.
The fete is pretty good too - fun for all the family. It's normally got a beer tent, tea and cake, coconut shy, dog show etc.
After going for an enjoyable early breakfast run around Macc Forest and Shutlingsloe (perfect morning for it) I decided to go and spectate rather than partake and cheer on a few from the club and take a few SNAPS along the way.
Looked like a good turn out. Not seen any results as yet, enough to say Simon Bailay ran ;-)
First race in this part of the country. Really enjoyed it - but not the up-hill finish!
Thanks Noel and the team for a fantastic race. You packed a lot of fun into 3k - I liked the bum slither bluebell wood particularly!

Macc Harriers
First did this race in 1982 and it never ceases to please - the setting, the ambience the bl**dy hill, all together making a grand afternoon out. And now with Wincle Brewery Eccentric Beers to quench the thirst. This is a heaven on earth.
Well done on the organisation Noel

Another win for Mr Bailey, when is this race going to be renamed Simon's Shutlingsloe? Young Joshua had another amazing run finishing 2nd and claiming big scalps in Sam Tosh 3rd and Simon Harding 4th.
There really is something special about a village fete in a country setting and Wildboarclough Fete has such a nice feel about it with the added bonus of a Fell race. We arrived in plenty of time so a brew and cake had to be sampled, especially with the cakes being 3 for the price of 2. Maybe a big slice of Coffee and Walnut before the race was too much....I coughed up a piece of walnut on the climb through the wood, lovely!
At only 2 miles how hard can it be?
Balls out, not literally, straight down the field and cross the road into the woods then wade across the river, rope for guidance if needed. Steep climb through bluebell covered woods which feels like one step forward two steps back. Tiptoe the cattle grid and slog up the road reaching the slopes of Shutlingsloe and eventually the summit trig. Turn around and return.
Roughly 19 minutes later it's all over.....how I kept the cake down I don't know....brilliant little race, loved it.
The race was watched by Chancellor of the exchequer George Osborne, I said to my wife I'm going to ask George what his thoughts are on the monetary value of fell racing. She said don't be a dick....I didn't ask.
Cheers to Noel and helpers, one of which was Lantern rouge...good to see you Simon.
Thanks Darren. That's a pretty good summary of the fete and the race. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I've just sent the results to Brett.
Haha - brilliant Darren. Felt harder than last year (maybe just me). Quality race!
Doesn't get easier for us owd uns but there were still plenty behind me (and quite a few in front) but still most enjoyable - I liked the added touch of the "holding pen" before the start so numbers of runners could be counted - just adds to the ever so slightly bonkers feel about the whole event.
My first time racing this little classic.
Thanks very much Noel for a great race.
Any photos around?
We made a little film - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqHVm19vWUI
Ah we have seen the results now and realise that Lucas was not 4th (4th was Alistair Thornton) sorry Alistair we cant amend the file on you tube now!!
here are the results http://www.fellrunner.org.uk/results.php?id=2824
Lovely little film. I was timekeeping with Noel. It's a great race and a real lung buster. :D watching Simon Bailey come down was quite a sight.... Great to see so many familiar faces even though I am always surprised at how cold I get when marshalling and not running...it was bloody cold behind that clipboard!
See you at Teggs!
Shock at Shutlingsloe today. Simon Bailey was beaten into 2nd place by Josh Boyle. Great finish - there was 1 second in it.
Helen Thornhill retained her ladies trophy. Results are on twitter - if you can read them. I'll try to type them up later tonight.
Josh beat Simon at the Lantern Pike Dash as well.
This year's Shutlingsloe fell race will be on Sunday September 19th. Entry on the day. Part of the delayed (due to COVID) Rose Queen fete. See you there.
