Stick pole in ground, reverse onto it, scratch arse, nuff said ;)

Well this could be interesting...........
If weather stays similar to what we've had for last few days it will be a tough outing
Yeah DT, tough with knobs on I'm thinking. To be honest even though (and maybe because) I entered yonks ago, this has sort of been off my radar until er... NOW! I looked at last year's results a couple of days ago and a steady 4 mph for the whole 105 miles was the time for the guy who came 11th! Only 52% of the LL100 starters finished and only a third of them were under 30 hours with first lady Rach (carrying the banner for Settle) coming 27th overall with a time of 28:47 hours. Could be a long night, day and night then :)

Why not carry 2 poles in one hand and scratch your arse with the other? ;)
I've cut the pole strap etc off my 12 set. Generally I run down without them unless I'm really jiggered, so a quick stop to slot the poles into the capacious side pockets I find is time well spent.
Good luck everyone :) one of my friends doing the 50 and 2 doing the 100. Looking forward to everyone's accounts  Stay safe and have fun.
[QUOTE=Tussockface;551099]You mean the high humidity, hill fog, sudden intense downpours and risk of lightning?
At least it won't be boring.

Bring it on  50 for me along with 18 or so others from Sunny Sunderland, also 4 of us doing the 100 :w00t:
Oddly enough I was faffing about with them last night, trying to work out the most convenient way to transport them. I'm not an expert with poles but have used them enough times to realise they are a definite benefit, especially on the climbs, so they'll be used this Saturday. I imagine a lot of arse-scratching will be required :D
I concur that it's usually worth the time to stop and secure them properly. The wife gets proper grumpy when I ask her to do it, so I'm working on a "on the hoof" method".
Good luck to everyone in the 100 and 50 this weekend.

Remembering how nice everyone is who either fell runs or runs 100 miles in the mountains (!), if there is another runner close, ask them to stow them for you.
I've done this lots of times abroad (sign language mostly because my brain's been too tired to construct the relevant French) and it works every time. Then offer to reciprocate. :D:wink:
Have a great event all runners!.....and crawlers!! ;-)
Lots of luck to all 100/50 runners.
Good luck everyone in both distances, have a great weekend
I am pretty nifty at stowing and retrieving my poles in my Raidlight Endurance sack. I used my poles on the 100 last year. It turned out that I only stowed them once. Carrying them in my hand when I wasn't using them was no problem at all. If I needed one or two free hands I carried both in one hand or tucked them both under my arm.
Definately good luck to those L100ers! I'm doing the L50 and that'll be enough for me in this weather! For those that may be interested I'll try and remember to put my forum name on my number. Will the Strollers lot be in the pub on the corner again, as I seem to recall chatting to a bunch of them there last year as the Olympic Opening Ceremony unfolded!!
We'll be there mate, about 40 of us in total!!!!! 4 doing the 100 tonight as we cheer them off outside the pub with pint in hand, 16 - 18 doing the 50, and the rest marshalling at checkpoints. Looking forward to a fun weekend with lots of banter. Do come n say hello,
Auld Ken
Have a great time!
Good luck to all on the L100 / 50. Hopefully the weather will be OK... I may cross paths with some... I'll be doing the Old Crown Round.
1st (Stuart Mills?) & 2nd L100 runners on Walna Scar Road yesterday.

So! How did we all do!! Ken (nee_bother) did great!! Top 10ish in the 50! Hester was in sub-12 (11.40 odd) and I struggled around in 12.28! Which I'm happy with all things considered! Glad to get around really. Hydration was a real problem even though fluid was plentiful Then the rain came on for the last section and a half, though this wasn't a real problem. All in all a great event as per last year. Congratulations to everyone who ran and/or completed and especially anyone doing the 100 those guys have my utmost admiration it seems to be pure will power driving some of them!! Next year?...we'll see, better preparation...possibly! Oh! and well done Sunderland Stroller for a brilliant turn out too!...very cheerful and chatty bunch they are!! :)
The chap in red looks to have v1 of the Salomon 12ltr pack.
It was good to see you Iain and I'm really glad that you made it ok (and in good time). Lots of people suffering on the L100 & 50 because of the heat. I think I was lucky as I was expecting to conk out after the loop of Dalemain...it was like the savannah! I really enjoyed the event overall and had a second and third wind after periods of flagging :) I just can't imagine how anyone does the 100, total admiration for all, whether they completed or not. Lovely to catch up with plenty of forumites and I apologise to Adrian Leigh for talking too much on our run in to Coniston, I was on a bit of a high :)
Big Up to Stuart Mills for his win.
He recently blogged that he can't hope to compete with the elite now that he's turned 50.
As a recent 50 something I found that a bit dispiriting.
Looks like he was wrong.
Well done Millsy.
What a brilliant brilliant event. Loved every minute of it...... apart from the hours of agony that is :). I didn't pick a good day to try out my brand spanking new Hokas and absolutely smashed my feet to bits, finally having to call it a day at Maredale at the 75 mile point.
The run of the event has to be the winning female Lizzie Wraith who smashed the female record finishing in 24:15!!!
Results are up.
@Hes. Aye! It was nice to chat for a couple of minutes. I didn't exactly recover, just kept going really!! Had one decent leg into Ambleside and the rest was hard work with cramps, blisters and fluctuating energy levels. Brilliant run by you in the end but I'm sure there's more in the tank for you. @Stolly. Hard luck on your effort. Seems like it just wasn't your day. Utmost admiration for anyone that starts the 100 let alone gets to Mardale and beyond!! No idea how they do it! @Steve. You'll enjoy the L50 after completing the 100. I kept thinking I saw you kicking about the place but was never sure. where you at Coniston, or was it mistaken identity! I've only got your avatar here to go off!!
Well done all you 50 and 100 milers. You are ALL amazing. FACT!
