What is the prefered footwear choice, was planning on trail shoes rather than mud claws as I presume it'll still be solid?

I'm sorry folks... I've just spoken to the organiser, Thirza, and she has decided to cancel the race tomorrow.
She doesn't think she or the marshalls will be able to get there since the snow is bad here and a lot more is due overnight, and she reckoned it was better to make the decision now rather than wait until the morning and leave it to late for some people.
The cheques haven't been cashed, so we'll tear them up.

Disappointing but not altogether surprising given the outlook. Tempting though it is to drive over for a run anyway, I think we'll opt for the long lie-in option!

A few of us Tod Harriers have arranged to run the route together tomorrow anyway despite the weather. It will not be an organised event so there'll be no marshalls etc - meet outside OldTown Cricket Club at about 09:45 tomorrow. We can either run it as a group and just treat it as a recce for next year and build a few snowmen along the way - or decide the racing rules before we set off! Aim to leave the Cricket Club at 10'ish. Bring warm gear as it could be a tad chilly if we're not racing!!! All welcome.

Back home with my feet up in front of a warm fire - well done to Thirza in taking the eminentley sensible decision to call of the race - looked a tad bleak in the area around the Old town and I daresay it would have been a lot worse on the course, especially for the marshalls. A few braver souls than me decided to run the route anyway.
Anyway can't sit here gassing - got a mountain of ham sandwhiches to get through.

Okay guys - see if any one can beat this.
Left Edinburgh at 2.30pm Friday for Hebden Bridge arriving around 6.30pm to a blast of sleet and rain. Search out a pub to watch my beloved QPR who are making a rare appearance on Sky. All pubs in HB showing Wigan rugby league game. Return to hotel around 9.30pm. Get a text from wifey back home in Scotterland saying chap has called and the race is cancelled. QPR lose 5-0. Head for home after breakfast, make detor to Lake District as weather doesn't look too bad. Hit by a blizzard half way up Bowscale Fell forcing a hasty retreat. QPR still losing 5-0. End result 507 miles of driving and one hour's running ! By the way the organisers did me a big favour, having not reccied the course it was all looking a bit wild and not a place to picking daisies if you don't know your way around. Anyway hopefully they will re-arrange. At least I may be a bit fresher for the Carnethy 5 up here next week.

A few of us ran some of the course yesterday AM (13 started!) and was quite challenging but wonderful. Would have been near impossible for marshalls.Great call Thirza.
So we missed out a few rubbish bits like the first drop down from Old Town at the beginning. The 9/10 Trog. Nice to meet you all fellow snowy trogladytes.
Clive - Wish I'd stuck about and joined you. However, at 9am I was more concerned about making it back down the hill without sliding off the road. You have bred some steep roads in that neck of the woods. Very nice pubs and I am sure the walk along the canal must be nice in Summer. Any word on whether they'll re-schedule?
Sorry to hear of all your driving for the sake of an hours run BTD. I'm driving up from Lancashire next Saturday for the Carnethy so lets hope that's not cancelled due to snow. I'll watch out for you amongst the 498 other runners !Quote:

Mapper - forecast for the weekend looks not too bad. I was up in the Pentlands the previous wkend and I was surprised how dry it was for the time of year. However there has been a tad of precipitation since then. Look out for the good looking person in the Keswick vest and then look for an ugly looking one and that's me !!

I decided to recce this yesterday and have a few questions about the route.
I was fine with everything on the west side of the A6033 (wadsworth moor) but I was wondering wether I got the lines right on the other, east, side (Oxenhope Moor, Midgley Moor).
The problem areas were:-
1) CP2 to CP3 I just followed faint trods up Bare Clough (NW) to Catchwater Drain and followed a bearing to CP3.....no paths, very rough going.
2)CP3 to CP4. Do people run along the road from CP3 or head down Halfpenny Hole Clough and what line do they take back up from CP10 to CP11?
3) CP11 to CP12 just followed a bearing from the bend in the road at 011324 to high Brown Knoll. I was hoping to pick up Black Gate path (shown on the 1:25000 map) but must have crossed it without spotting it. Again very rough and slow going.
4) Got very confused from CP13 to CP14.....are there any flags on the day for this section?
Yes, that's just how it is ;) - there's a path cutting up through bracken in the steep climb from the reservoir. If you waded through the smelly knee deep mud alongside the wall it's straight in front of you. As you said, once you get past the steep climb there's a few faint trods taking you as far as the catchwater drain, Once you cross that drain, however, then you're "up to your buttocks in tussocks" - just head for the fence corner. If there is a path through that lot, then its the best kept secret in Yorkshire!Quote:
