Maybe they'd gone the wrong way! But I dont see how :p
I mean - the Sylines advertised as 4500 ft (at least):confused:

Looks like there is some variance!!
I suspect that some people don't press the 'start' button properly at the start as it's lost up their sleeve / too complicated / they forget!:o
Any way, how do you know I've been in all day - need more coffee....:D
I've done this a couple of times. It's all runnable and there aren't really any 'proper' hills. There's the ascent to Eyam (about 400 feet), the ascent onto the moor (similar), the ascent from Bakewell towards Edensor (maybe 400) and the final ascent from Baslow onto Froggatt Edge which is maybe 600.
With undulations I'd say 2,500 max. More like 2,000.
It's a nice morning out with great soup and cheese butties at the finish.
This makes a lot more sense! With undulations probably abit more. Ill stick to instinct over techonolgy I think :D
Great cake too! A couple of years ago I waited around for some walking friends and they bought out this scrummy chocolate crispy cake :D
Doing the same this year so fingers crossed :D
Cheers Marty. If it does get a bit tough at any point then the promise of cheese butties and cake at the finish should see me through!:D
Good luck to everyone taking part!
this filled up ages ago
surely a few off here...?
I recced this a while back, loved the route and really looking forward to it...
P.S. I've contour-counted it as 2500ft ascent
P.P.S. FAO Brett - you might want to remove the 2010 date from the thread title (it's 10th March this year)
I'm doing it...
On the back of still being injured, having run bugger all in the last 4 weeks except the 15m Belvoir Challenge on Saturday (and i'm still limping now), being from Flat Fenland, being a soft Eastern jessy (I'm NOT a southerner!!) - hey, what could possibly go wrong?? LOL
Having said all that - I'm really looking forward to it!
It's a lovely event this; a fast course too. It's the only one of this type and distance (i.e. not a road race) where I've averaged more than 6mph. It's a shame it clashes with Wuthering Hike otherwise I'd be there.
NaturalBritain, it's a good one for your comeback. :)
Cheers Nick, I'm not sure it will rate as a comeback...that would mean that people had noticed i'd gone anywhere LOL! Looking forward to it though...
NB - I'll be the one in the fluo green Fell Ponies vest, trying to break 4 hours...
Daz - I'll be in a fetching white with purple stripes Fenland Running Club vest - probably completely obscured by my TNF Enduro backpack (yes I know it's only 21m, but to me it's training for my ultras later in the year!).
Oh and i'll be trying not to break....myself! Any time after that is good!
previous Grindleforders - which checkpoints have water available?
I'm guessing White Rake, Hassop and Baslow, but any others?
any food available at any CPs?
Another great day out, and we had sunshine at one point!
Anybody seen any pics?
Nope....thankfully!!! I had a great time, my longest ever race (hell, my longest ever run!) - struggled a lot at the end, was very slow, cramped up like buggery on the last couple of miles....and loved it that much I want to do it again next year! Oh, and I wasn't last!!!
Signed up for this, though not strictly a fell race, its flipping hilly as I run around these hills all the time. Anyone else doing it?
did it last year - superb route - immediately lodged in my Top 20 events
2013 clashes with Haworth Hobble though, and I'm giving priority to that
Looks very interesting indeed!!, will have to check my days-off (& whether there's any race for me that day??)
Out of curiosity, does anyone know if Grindleford Staion Cafe is still open for 'post-race feeding'??
You may be too late Richard...race full with 122 on the waiting list! https://www.sientries.co.uk/event.ph...Y&event_id=882
I'd considered doing it as it's a few years since I've been to the edges, either running or walking, until I realised that it's the day before I come back from a 'warm weather' walking week on Madeira.
Okay, thankyou.
Oh well, my loss!!
Fair enough, I just seem to remember being told that it had closed a while ago??, unless it was for a refurb(?), or temporary closure 'out of season'???
Pricewise, it's about comparable to the Redbeck on Doncaster Road/A638, as you head out of Wakefield then
http://www.redbeck.site11.com/redbeckcafe.html
A bit cheaper @ 'Squires', where I call for a cup of tea after being out riding towards Selby/Vale of York/etc...
http://www.squires-cafe.co.uk/cafe_menu/index.asp
Run past the Hassop book shop cafe every day to work and its defo open though there are tons of cheaper places to eat in Bakewell, Calver Crossroads cafe, Hathersage, depends which way you are driving away from the event. Did 19 miles of it the other day, phew thats tough on one bottle of water and nowt to eat, I was so hungry ran off course to get some grub at Calver fuel station walked in and ate a couple of nakd bars in front of the girl on the till looking like a mad man before I paid!!! Poor kid I think I scared her she was a youngster still at school. Apologised and paid and staggered back out!!!! Roll on the 9th of March hope the weather is good, looking like it will be wet next week now possibly a bit of white stuff. There was a bitter wind on Longstone Edge on Sunday.
I'm on the waiting list. There is no indication of how long the waiting list is. How likely is it that I will get to race?
when did you go onto the waiting list?
entries opened back in mid-November and it filled up within a couple of days
so I imagine the waiting list could be pretty long
anyone else getting excited about this one on Saturday?
one of my fave events :D
great race and sneakily demanding in places! a great mix of terrain with some great views coming into Chatsworth and along the edges at the end. I would definately recommend it
