Yes it is quite a run back along a track and then road but it is a beautiful back lane and there were no cars. The high limestone country that was the majority of the race more than made up for it.
Cakes were good as well and a great jazz singer for entertainment.
great little race... it's just a shame thawites wouldn't lend me a shire horse at the start! a little gem of a race.. great to see Derby tup again( joggin round!)

Was going to do this, but thinking of doing Helvellyn & Dodds on the preceding Sunday and my legs may not like me for it. Had an email from the organisers the other day, apparently the route has changed slightly this year, I think it takes out that awful road section at the end and more of it is on grass. Got to be a good thing!

i will try and make this. not done it before, but i had heard mutterings about the final tarmac stretch and those have led to a course change
New route looks good. The old bit of road was lengthy for a fell race but very scenic country lanes. Hoping to be there.
I'll be there on Monday. New route looks good though didn't mind the old one either, apart from the obvious wearing down of precious fell studs...
Anyone been up there recently? Just wondered what it's like underfoot. Last ran this in 2009 when it was cracking the flags - was thinking of dusting off the road shoes if its bone dry again.

What a great low level fell race - almost all of it runnable on grass. And a nice village market with multiple sources of cakes/scones/tea, and a jazz band. Thanks to the RO/marshals.
Another lovely run in the Yorkshire Dales, really starting to like running in that part of the world! Well done to organisers & marshals alike who were very friendly & encouraging throughout the course!
The official figures for the race are 8.1 miles and 1197 ft; my 610 measured it at 7.86 miles and 981 ft.
The route change could account for the 0.3? Not sure about the elevation though
It goes up Norber yeah and then comes back, via Crummack Dale, following the lane? Something like that anyway. I love the grassy running on the Norber ridgeline and often go that way up and down Ingleborough :)
thanks to organisers and marshals for a great Bank Holiday afternoon. Its a great race which does deserve larger numbers really. Some classic Yorkshire limestone scenery. Hope everyone is ok ,the mountain rescue vehicle and ambulance were dashing around a bit !
Hurrah! My first fell race done and dusted since twanging my achilles at the Gill Garth Gallop last June :)
Mainly overcast and a cool breeze, but perfect once we got moving - the middle half is virtually flat, but the first 2 miles and the last 2 miles make up for it - flagged the whole way, but you could still get lost if you tried. Thanks to the RO and the marshals; lots to see and do in the village for non runners.
I was pretty pleased with my time of 1:05 hours, especially as I did a 20 mile slog yesterday :). The slab of cake and cup of tea in the village hall after was great too.
I'm going over for this tommorrow, anyone else be warned that the A65 was a carpark between settle and ingleton yesterday because of horse-drawn traffic going to appleby. Looking forward to my first amble actually, weather looks like it'll hold.
Cheers to the village of Austwick, what a super event. One of the best galas on the circuit i think, i simply didn't have enough time to sift through all the bric-a-brac on offer, there's probably some records i missed no doubt. What i didn't miss was the Technics separates hi-fi system on sale at one particular table; i went back to see if he'd take a deposit as i didn't have the money, but he'd split it and sold the amp on its own. I did however get a nice set of Mordaunt Short MS20i 2-ways for a fiver, they don't half thunder, pulled my bag out carrying them to the car! Smashing tea and cakes in the WI tea room, the hog roast wasn't to be missed too.
Agreed, third run out for me at Austwick and pleased to get around in about 56 mins after not much running. It's a great day out and there's not many small villages that welcome the runners back with so much enthusiasm. Shame a few of us went wrong after sulber nick but should have known better, only cost us around 15 seconds if that.Quote:
